    Well done Matt, following you from New Zealand and love seeing you do so well. Very inspiring for a 50yr old Welshman living in NZ. Kia Kaha! ( Which means stay strong in the Maori language)

    You always race better against people than the clock. A good field there around your standard and it paid off. The joy of getting stuck in shines through this video.

    Genuine big up, well done on your sub 31. I only did it once (30.52) more than 30 years ago having sub 31.15 so many times, in-fact second best , 31.00 yes 31.0O. But being able to say '' i did once run sub 31'' to the youngest still gives me a buzz and you can now deservedly have that buzz. Ian

    I spoke to you before the Bristol 10k and congratulated you on your recent 5k sub 15. I had no idea you had already backed this as well. This really is Epic Matt. Now I need to go and look what you did in Bristol... it wasn't the flattest course but I hope you had a good time. So nice to hear you mention that you enjoyed Swansea, not just the PB! That's important too. [Ed. Just looked up your Bristol time and position. I won't give spoilers but well done!]

    • @TheWelshRunner

      All my runs are on Strava 👍👊. There’s no magic sessions. Lots of time on feet and some faster work. After Cardiff 5K I increased the intensity even more by doing VO2max stuff more often. It was a risk but I wanted to peak and give myself a chance of breaking 15 in my final attempt. I did a hard session 2 days out from my penultimate attempt because I felt that if I ‘trained through’ that race it would give me a better chance of the PB in London. Would people be interested in a sit down Vlog discussing the training cycle in more detail? Could be very boring for some but I’ll make it if there’s demand.

    • @bev9708
      @bev9708 Рік тому +5

      @@TheWelshRunner YES PLEASE we would be interested!!!! How could that be boring??😂😂 AND if you could do a kind of interview each other kinda format with another youtuber, like Andy FOD Runner for example, or any one of them you know also currently succeeding with a PB or 2, that could be even more interesting!!! 🙋🏻‍♀

      @@TheWelshRunner i would definitely be interested and would watch a sit down vlog discussing your training cycle in more detail. // RE: what you described above: there's definitely lots of benefits in increasing the VO2max workouts (in this marathon block I've been doing 2 a week) and in my experience doing that creates the biggest jumps in fitness. In order to try and make sure injury doesn't happen while doing that, I try to be really committed to a daily schedule of core, leg strengthening, and some weights

    Loving the racing vids Matthew. What's your strength training looking like these days?

    • @TheWelshRunner
      @TheWelshRunner  Рік тому

      I wish I could answer that I’m doing S and C twice a week and some core on top. The truth is I haven’t done any for ages. I’d have to look back to see when the last time I did any was. I think the big amount of elevation (for a road guy) that I’m getting is making me strong but I do think S and C is an area that can help my performance in the long run. I will always prioritise the running though as my limiting factor is fitness.

    • @andytattum7740
      @andytattum7740 Рік тому

      @@TheWelshRunner Yes elevation must help. It's Something I probably could do with introducing to my training more frequently to help with form and injury prevention. I remember you saying in your Kenyan experience that a lot of the locals didn't do any strength training but did include a lot of hills.
