I enjoy Leo Tolstoy's stories. It is remarkable to realise that in the time of Tolstoy that people in Russia were believers in God. Most of Tolstoy's characters relate to God, compassion for the vulnerable, the starving and the poor. In the year 1840 Russia had periods of famine, unemployment. Most people had to leave their families to go to war. Today in the 21 st century
the Russian Government have a different style of living. They pursue the development of arms, missiles, they are competing with other nations for more power.. The leaders practise a strange style of democracy. The Russians are governed by a strict autocratic 5:17 5:17 regime. Freedom is dictated by the the leaders, the style of Govt is different from the Govt of the west.😊😢

Used to be believers in God? Turn of your TV and spend some time reflecting on how off base a statement this is to make of a population of A majority of Orthodox Christians that has remained kindled for centuries and through many regimes, governments or Kingdoms.

    • @PerJustert

@@joycehaarup4432I assume you mean government of the USA when you write government of the West? In that case, there is no difference in terms of pursuing development of arms and missiles, and the will to compete with other states for more power. That fact that the Russians failed to establish a sustainable democracy after the fall of the Soviet Union is certainly understandable, but it is completely incomprehensible that the Republican Party has become puppets for the tyrant Trump and put American democracy at risk of disintegration. For the rest of the world the to nations are much more similar than you like to believe.

Do I understand the moral of this story correctly? I thought he might be confusing lust for the desire of human contact without lust.
Also, To give in the purest of intentions. That he spent decades denying himself any comforts. These acts were without benefit of love or sacrifice for others so he continues to feel unfullfilled. Only toward the end of his life does he understand?

      Search Luther’s history.
Good coverage in Great Controversy by 7DA writer Ellen Gould White.
Luther’s father hated the role of Cath. Priests. Luther wanted to serve God, & thought being a Priest was for him. While a Monk, in Germany, he climbed a stone stairway regularly on his knees. And The Lord spoke to him that was NOT going to please God.
Luther longed to read God’s Word. He was not allowed to. He found a small bit of the Bible in a Library. He finally learned the TRUTH OF CHRIST’S SACRIFICE, and Jesus freeing us from satan’s claims of lording over sinners - claiming they belonged to him.
Luther learned much from traveling to Rome: expecting to meet Holy Priests, he met course, greedy sorts, using their offices for selfish ungodly, temporary pleasures.
He returned to Germany determined to stop the flow of money from hard working people, mostly poor people,
sent to Rome to put delicacies on the daily plates at the Vatican.
The Pope sought to condemn Luther. Friends of Luther in Germany worked to protect him from being hurt.
Luther wrote MUCH, wanting everyone to know how Jesus’
Sacrifice opened to us the mercy of God; telling us how God is Love.

Spiritual life/born again/twice born means detachment from activities/work that is NOT conductive to the wellbeing of Body-Mind-Soul ; and replace by pious/saintly work/activities which nourishes our body, spirit SOUL, and mind.
Great men of past and present have trained their mind to be their Master and their mind are not being easily disturbed by outer forces.

For the first time ever i understand what being a monk, here a Russian orthodox monk, is supposed to be about - he tirelessly helped people, which is what be a religious person is supposed to be all about- and yet, he castigated and cast himself as a sinner. Then being sent to Siberia, did more of his God’s work.
this is what being a Christian is supposed to be, but few do this. A person who helps others is more religious than any person who is egoistic or proud or arrogant towards others. they may have faults, all humans do, but that is not that important as long as they work on being better.
Zoroastrians had helping others as one of their precepts. it goes further back than that, i am sure. Humans have cared for their sick far, far back as proven by finding burials that show this. 🌷🌱
(so many in amurica think it’s only belief in their idea of god is what counts and look with distain and disgust at people who don’t believe exactly as they do.👿)
