    These stories are full of wisdom.
    Leo Tolstoy was always on the side of the poor.
    Although he was an aristocratic he gave his estate to the poor.
    He died in a railway station where many people came to see him.

    If okay with you, I am sharing with this wiki summary “Born to an aristocratic Russian family in 1828, Tolstoy's notable works include the novels War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1878),often cited as pinnacles of realist fiction,and two of the greatest books of all time. He first achieved literary acclaim in his twenties with his semi-autobiographical trilogy, Childhood, Boyhood, and Youth (1852-1856), and Sevastopol Sketches (1855), based upon his experiences in the Crimean War. His fiction includes dozens of short stories such as "After the Ball" (1911), and several novellas such as The Death of Ivan Ilyich (1886), Family Happiness (1859) and Hadji Murad (1912). He also wrote plays and essays concerning philosophical, moral and religious themes.’’

      I had heard he was born from nobility. He probably enjoyed wealth and yet he write so informed about the struggles of the poor. He obviously was a Godly man and had a compassionate heart.

      18 years ago, I mentioned that to my son's Freshman English teacher. Not a young lady, she waved it off, saying students today don't care about those old books. That was when I found myself actually face to face with the "Dumbing down of America" in the public school system. We'll be paying the price for bad curriculum in the public schools for many years to come.

      What you refer to is known as the "Dumbing Down of America." American youth are taught to be "possessors of soft white hands,' and to be allergic to 'toil-hardened hands'. They shall have to achieve wisdom the hard way, no thanks to the educators.

    As a 'moral' tale, or, lesson it went on far too long and became somewhat tideous! It must have been widely read and accalimed by the up-and-coming Bolshevik party of 1917!!!

    • @Matira269
      @Matira269 11 місяців тому +2

      Yes, it sounds like something that the Bolsheviks would have used for sharing their philosophy, although the non-violent part passed right over their heads. In reality the Bolsheviks' neglect of education and technological savvy proved to be untenable in running a country.
