    Question about the surfboard tack. I am a former wind surfer and I believe you are as well, so with that in mind picture a windsurfing tack... When you point the board up into the wind your body turns so your back faces the wind and you step around the mast which stays downwind of you. What you are doing in this kite surfboard tack is the opposite. You are turning so that your front side faces the wind and stepping behind the lines (or mast if windsurfing). Can you picture what I'm describing? Can you do the surfboard tack like you would on a windsurfing board by rotating the other way? EDIT: and the 180 transition is the kite version of the jump jibe 👍

    • @heathluke69
      @heathluke69 3 роки тому +3

      You can rotate your body either way friend. Both are tacks but called something lightly different. Damien is demonstrating the 'duck' tack, the method you are describing is simply called a tack. I use both depending on how fast I'm going ;)

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому +2

      Its all the same thing your lines are somewhat like the mast. It is all the same concept. To answer your question yes you can for sure but you have to push your bar out and swing your lines around you very fast...... When the transition happens.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому +1

      Let me get this right can you pair the Cutlass board "foil convertible with your Hi Rise Carve foil? If so yes might have to find the right placement on the track of the board, but should work yep! Maybe have to shim the back wing if there is too much LIFT in the front but yes should work.....

    In this video, Damian Leroy provides a breakdown of the basics of riding a directional surfboard in kiteboarding.
    00:12
    The video covers water starts, tacking, jibing, and going over a wave, providing all the essential information for beginners.
    00:32
    Damian discusses different surfboard options, including the S Quad, Cutlass, and Crossbreed, highlighting their features and performance.
    01:18
    The S Quad is a high-performance board suitable for top-to-bottom waves, while the Cutlass offers more volume and is ideal for mushier conditions.
    01:59
    The Crossbreed is a versatile board that works well for freestyle and can also be used with a foil for learning how to foil.
    02:28
    It's important to consider local conditions and seek advice from experienced riders when choosing a surfboard.
    02:34
    Damian's go-to board is the S Quad, which he highly recommends.
    02:36
    Let's get started with kiteboarding!
    02:40
    The water start is an important part of kitesurfing.
    02:46
    To perform a water start, it's important to relax, breathe, and get your feet up on the board.
    02:52
    Putting pressure on your back leg and diving the kite down can help you stand up and start edging into the wind.
    03:02
    If you're having trouble, try moving the kite back and forth above your head to maintain pressure on the board.
    03:08
    Learn the standing water start, a more advanced technique in kitesurfing.
    03:15
    Set the board down, jump on with your front foot, and ride off.
    03:20
    Timing with the kite is crucial for a successful start.
    03:26
    Step on with your front foot as the kite dives down to stand up.
    03:31
    Edge into the wind immediately to go upwind and start riding.
    03:38
    Enjoy the thrill of kitesurfing with a standing water start.
    03:41
    Toeside turn is important in kitesurfing, and it involves directing the kite in the desired direction and following it.
    03:52
    To maintain power in the kite, it's important not to go too far downwind and to edge back into the wind by putting pressure on the back foot.
    04:00
    Sinking the back of the board and steering the kite is crucial while edging around.
    04:06
    Toeside edging into the wind is important.
    04:10
    Learn how to transition to heel side by making a toe side turn and bringing the kite up.
    04:19
    Edge into the wind and switch your feet from forward to back as the kite comes up.
    04:31
    Take your back foot and step where the front one was, then bring your back foot back.
    04:40
    Stay low and make the switch with your feet as the kite comes up.
    04:44
    Dive the kite in the direction you're going and continue riding.
    04:47
    Tips for riding over waves on a directional surfboard during kitesurfing:
    04:55
    Slow down your speed and bring your kite up.
    04:58
    Redirect the kite down and start again in the same direction.
    05:05
    Bring the kite up to create lift and make it easier to go over the wave.
    05:09
    Redirect the kite and start riding away.
    05:19
    Learn how to jibe or jive while kitesurfing by bringing your kite up to create lift and swapping your back foot with your front foot.
    05:32
    Bringing the kite up creates lift and switching your feet creates tension on the kite by edging against it.
    05:45
    The most important thing is bringing the kite up to neutral, switching your feet, and putting more pressure on your back foot to make the board come around.
    05:56
    Make sure to maintain speed while jiving, as going too slow will result in the kite losing tension and you falling in the water.
    06:03
    The video discusses how to perform a surfboard tack by edging into the wind and creating tension on the kite with extended arms.
    06:29
    To ride in the opposite direction, it's important to redirect the kite and keep it moving.
    07:11
    When turning on a wave, it's important to look before turning and adjust pressure on the back foot.
    08:18
    Directing and following the kite is important for maintaining power.
    08:26
    A basic 180 transition involves lifting the nose of the board and spinning it 180 degrees.
    08:53
    The video concludes by thanking the viewer and encouraging them to be safe on the water.

    Hi great content! One question when tacking I can never seem to get the nose of the board straight unto wind...any tips?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому +2

      Friend try it in stages......Try a few times edging heelside into the wind hard, as you go into the wind push the bar out. It will make the kite depower more helping you go more into the wind. Try to edge all the way around like a backroll. This will give you the feeling of how to do the full tack. It helps to enter into it with more speed. Riding slow into it makes it very hard. Next would be to keep your board under you and switch your feet midway through... This is not an easy trick and takes time....

    what about going upwind and weight distribution compared to a twin tip?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  11 місяців тому +1

      A twin tip depending can be a little more back foot heavy a surfboard can be more centered- forward to create angles upwind, all depends on the board and set up. Usually a surfboard will be better to go upwind and be easier as it has more volume so in lulls you don't sink as much.

    Hi Damien, I'm currently riding a twintip but I'm looking to get more out of the light wind sessions. Would a directional board like the cutlass allow you to ride in lighter wind conditions compared to a twintip? Thanks!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  9 місяців тому +1

      Friend, I would recommend a foil over a directional as its way better in light winds. A Cutlass works a little better yes than a twin tip but quite minimal. To answer your question yes it helps but minimal. My thoughts.

    Can you provide some feedback on why your safety line is clipped around your chicken loop and the safety line at the same time? I haven't seen that setup before

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  11 місяців тому +1

      Sure thing! Reason so if I accidentally come unhooked or try a handless (trick) for instance and miss it. The kite will not fully activate the safety it will just sit depowered. But if I hit the QR or quick release it will activate the full kill of the kite. Most just clip to the QR but a more advanced rider sometimes uses both. I hope that make sense.
