Three kilometer deep armor plating... my admiration for it just got higher. Lol. That thick, even fleet weapons would just warm the hull.
There are a few weapons that could destroy it without issues. One is the Planet Killer from Star Trek and the other is the Wave Motion Gun from Space Battleship Yamato

Normal warships would effectively only scratch the paint.
Reflex Cannon from Robotech/Macross, or a Reflex Warhead, would probably do the trick nicely. And that's not getting into Synchro Cannons and Neutron-S Missiles.
@@evanboll4651 Reflex cannon would cut it like a hot poker. Even more so if you're using the ones built onto the Macross Cannon ships from Macross II. Lol.
Only thing that survived direct Reflex Cannon fire was Lord Ingues command fortress, and that's just because it was almost the size of a planet. It's OWN Reflex cannon was about the size of the Death Star ii, and made up less than 2% of its structure. Anything hit by that, shield or no, was like a match in a blast furnace.
The exhaust port weakness was actually located along one of the longitudinal trenches, not the main equatorial trench. This is a common misconception. They actually show it in the briefing before the battle.
And somehow the generated heat of a planet destroying superweapon has to be radiate out. They even had 19 of these I don't get how people have so much problem with the exhaust port

The death Star was a strategic failure. It was meant to terrify systems into submission but all it did was provoke resistance. It's very existence meant anyone who didn't like the empire had to take up arms. The death epitomises the Tarkin doctrine, in that it didn't fulfill its primary objective.
Besides, the Imperial Navy was right about the resource allocation: *one* Death Star in *one* place, or 10,000 Star Destroyers each watching over a single star system. (It makes a great movie, though.)
The exhaust port was actually at the end of a polar tench, not the equatorial one, common error. Great vid !
The Death Star has been the MVP of fictional superweapons in the sci-fi realm for a very long time and it truly was a weapon of pure terror.
3:30 the exhaust wasn't on the equator, but on a thin tench going from south to north.
All of the trenches were colloquially referred to as equatorial trenches. I love Star Wars, but sometimes it even baffles me

Thank you for saying that it was a chain reaction that triggered the deathstar's destruction. I have seen/heard too many people saying that the torpedo went down the exhaust vent all the way to the core.
That was even stated in the briefing they gave to the pilots before the attack.

To be fair, actual governments have built working but pointless superweapons countless times.
When I first saw Star Wars episode IV:A New Hope and when I first saw this thing it scared the crap out of me especially what it did to Alderaan and I started having nightmares about this thing opening fire on Earth and it's hard to believe 120 kilometer Space station was destroyed by 2 proton torpedoes being fired down a 2 meter wide thermal exhaust port and it was taken down by a farm boy from the planet Tatooine now that is ironic as Tatooine was the home planet of Darth Vader when he was Anakin Skywalker who was a slave on that planet before Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn won his freedom from Anakin's slave master Watto in a pod race.
That vent opening was a design weakness built into by its unwilling architect Galen Erso.
According to the original movie notes there is in fact a focusing lense floating where the 8 beams converge

You know I find it funny that everyone thinks luke blew up the death star when it was tarkins own hubris that did him in. Now I know there are a lot of fanboys that will send angry responses without even reading the rest. For the rest of you I give the following evidence.
It was stated that if a torpedo was able to get all the way down the SECONDARY exhaust port it would cause a chain reaction. If this was the case there would have been alarms going off for at least a few seconds before the explosion. As we can clearly see in the movie there are no alarms, and everyone is rather calm as they try to line up the next shot.
Next you have the fact that the main port was right next to it. Meaning that if the torpedo simply exploded upon entering then the safety systems would kick in and close both ports. This would spike the heat from the reactor and all the weapons being fired. Upon firing the weapon the reactor could simply overload, and melt down, causing the station to explode from the inside out. This would mean that by the time the system would even notice the heat spike it would be too late to shut down the system.
A small portion of this is also proven in the main weapon as well. It does not even begin to fully fire before the station goes kaboom. If the spike had happened during firing the main cannon would at least get off a partial shot before the station blew up.
I give much of this information to the show 'beyond science' where they go into much of this detail.

Would like to restate a request for the CCS Battlecruiser, the most ubiquitous covenant warship in Halo, being the first covenant vessel we see in the Truth and Reconciliation as well as being present in every one of the original three Halo games.

120km in diameter sound a little small to me, the moon has a radius of 1737 km.
And the Super Star Destroyer, we see crashing into it was 19 km long..
Indefined radius of both Deathstars was always a problem. There were once a info about DS2 with 320km in diameter. Which possibly was scrapped later after Centerpoint station.
Let's not even get into Star Killer Base, which was smaller than dwarf planet Ceres in our solar system.

to be fair to a single two meter wide exhaust port for a moon sized station that can blow up planets is still quite an accomplishment
The port in question was only a secondary exhaust port, likely one of thousands that were scattered across the station's hull, and the port itself wasn't the weakness, it was just the easiest means of directly attacking the weakness: a flaw in the casing of the station's hypermatter reactor that was either viewed as an inevitability of the reactor's sheer size and thus not deemed worth the equipment and materials required to fix it or simply not severe enough to be detected at all by structural integrity tests.

You know, if the new Republic had found another one of these under construction, it would have made for a great capital. Even if they dismantled the death ray, which they should, the rest of the structure would still be very defensible.
The image it would've presented wouldn't have been ideal. Mon Mothma wanted to prove that the New Republic wouldn't transform into another Empire (hence the demilitarization) so traveling around in a modified Death Star would've undermined all of that.

26 000 is a very small number, wasn't there more of them? I read there were around 1 000 000 stormtrooper, and plenty of other Staff, like fleet engeniers and fleet troopers(infantry less efective than stormtrooper core, but bigger, and more like paramilitary forces)
7000 fighters but over 167000 pilots? Does every pilot work just an hour a week? No wonder they have so many supporters.
The Eclipse-class SSD had scaled-down versions of the superlaser for destroying capital ships in a single blast.

They should have just called it a research station. Calling it a death star kind of attracts attention!
If ISDs have enough firepower to turn a planet into "slag" in a single day, Why not just use the credits to upgrade and construct more of those metal gray doritos as well as some SSDs. Hell, you could've even use the credits to invest in science research to improve the armor and accuracy of stormtroopers as well as using those precious metals to create more intimidating and powerful walkers. If I were an Imperial citizen, I would be much more afraid if a single star destroyer can wipe a planet in existence and Galactic Empire has hundreds if not thousands of Star Destroyers, imagine the fear it would struck to galaxy to see that their navy or their army as a whole is capable of doing such thing. Sure, Death Star is big and powerful, capable of destroying a planet in a few seconds, but a big waste of credits and can do a crippling blow if ever it gets destroyed. However, if a single Destroyer is... destroyed, that would not do a crippling blow against the Empire, since they have too many of it and can replace it immediately. It'll also be good to see a Star Destroyer executing Exterminatus, Star Wars style.
