I learn so much from Irene and friends more than I've learnt watching any of the other gardening channels. There are so many tips from Irene and her friends' experience that I feel like I'm learning along with them. And since I learnt about potting mix materials my potted plants have taken off with the new mixes, I've never seen them so happy! :-) BIG HUG!
That means a LOT...thank you OzVegan!🤗
Hi Maam Irene watching from the Philippines. I love your videos its gives inspired to plant lovers like me. I just started to taking care of plant. I hope its success.
Irene , this is simply The Best Information on growing media! Thank you , thank you ! Practical knowledge is the best working knowledge and you are giving us an advance course👍🏻👍🏻 I am also Amazed by your random delivery guy’s articulate description of semi-epiphytic , terrestrial , epiphytes , acidic and ph neutral media ! Wow …is he a botanist ? He needs to be a regular guest on your show!
Can't believe that I watched both videos. Learned a lot ,especially not to compress the soil around the roots. A habit of mine. I'm repotting most of my plants tomorrow. The right way. Also I'll need pumice and charcoal.
Thank you Irene & Friend for your teaching input on potting mixes. I've learned so much ! Hopefully now I will have better success in putting these practices in place. Love you all !
I really enjoyed watching both videos, it was super super insightful and helpful to break down what every ingredient is for and what it does! Thank you so much!
This is so helpful. Im a foreigner in Indonesia and hard for me to find this kind of knowledge in English. thank you for saving my garden
I grow most of my plants in my own potting mix based on coco coir and pumice. I am experimenting with mycorrhizal fungi and it has been very successful so far. They come as a powder or liquid and they grow a beneficial mycelium that forms a partnership with the roots, trading nutrients for sugars produced by the plant. It's what happens in natural ecosystems and it forms the so called wood-wide-web in forests. Happy plants!
Yes....so precious the world of soil! I've bought these mycorrhizal fungi and all sorts but pretty bad at application (lazy). Thanks for reminder!
Very nice Video, very informative, this young man know what he talks about when it comes to plant. Thanks for sharing👍💕
Very informative video .. thank u for making it simple and easy to understand. Learnt a lot from this video🙂
Good video. Compacting soil is a no-no especially for baby plants. It took me many casualties to realise this.
Hi Irene,
Thanks for making these videos. They're very clear and easy to understand, although to me the subject is quite complex.
I'm going to repot my caladiums which I keep outdoors and would try to use that aroid mix that you demonstrated.
I'm also wondering what you think about replacing the wood bark with cocochips and dried branches/ leaves? (I'm soaking the coco chips now as I type)
Thanks so much again for the videos and have a great weekend.
Hello Heymi!! I addressed cocochip Vs woodbark in the PART 1 video😊. Just a thought... caladiums you just have to accept they will go dormant sometimes...don't throw away if they play dead!
Fantastic tutorial! So glad I found you!
Thank you for the great sharing , I’m a long time customer of the plant doctor, a lot of amendments for great prices.
I learned, I was entertained and you both are so awesome for sharing all this knowledge. Thanks so much!!

Thanks Irene and bro👏🌼👍❤️🙏🙏🌻🌻🍇💪🪴🤗🥀😊🧚🏿♂️🧚🏿♂️👌🥂🥂
I am so delighted your so active in your YT. Waiting....
Thank you for this informative and educational aroid video! Question: Where do you get your chunky pumice from and is it available for purchase online? I can’t seem to find them here in California or anywhere in the US. Thank you in advance!
Welcome! Sorry...I think you are too far for me to advice where to get it....better off asking plant collectors or gardeners in your city! Hope you find your source!
Great vid as always and so educative... So when potting you do advice to ad the materials in layers and not mix them before... Did I get that right?!
Yes that's right!
Hello, I'm from Brazil. I really love your channel. Thank you so much.
I would like to ask you a favor:
if its possible, could you record a video about different kinds of medias (mixing and proportion) that you use for another plants?
In this video you are especificly only about aroid mix.
Talk about other plants, please.
Thank you
I shall try!
This is so helpful..thank you for sharing 🙏🏼❤️
I love your channel. This was so informative. Watching from Nigeria
this is very good for my aroids
I love how you guys made this video wearing mask on. It just shows that wearing face mask should be normal in this time of pandemic whenever we are exposed to other people. Us asians usually have no issue wearing face mask. Its good to show people from the west that face mask is okay. ❤️
You need to do a little research but there are multiple studies done in last 18 months proving masks do not effectively spreading of Covid. Latest is from Waterloo univ showing at best the mask only reducing spread by 10%. Knowing this you should not look down or scold anyone not wearing one. If it makes you feel better to west one knock yourself out I won’t condemn you
@@wesleyhackney right. Coz people dont wear their mask properly. It can prevent infection, it has been a common practice to wear it when you are sick. Mask did not just come out in the market during the pandemic
Mask don't work! Blow smoke through the mask and you will see they don't work covid has 99.6 percent survival rate mask are all about control they are outside with plants makes no sense too be wearing them at all your breathing in the bacteria...research on duck duck go educate yourselves folks like you do your plants.. your being sheep!!!
@@pamelasalatto9978 amen and ditto. We all need to remember in US only .19% of population have died from this since it first came about 18 months ago and 80% are for those 65 and up lots of these folks would have died of flu, cold or pneumonia. Start living your life treat it like the flu or a cold and get over being a pansy. Bottom line liberals are making it political
@@pamelasalatto9978 i can tell youve been using a low quality mask. 🤪
Thank you for doing this video I learned so much from it.
Спасибо большое. Теперь буду знать как правильно готовить грунт для посадки растений. 🇺🇦❤
Love these videos. Thank you!

Pls watch the part 1! It was so long I had to break into 2 parts😆
I thought mine was chunky enuf until I saw yours 🤪 Truly aroid potting mixed. Holiao dear. Once again you nailed it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Irene...where did you get the leaves & twigs? You purchased it from shopee?
Er...I picked them up from my garden ground.
How about Nepenthes & Venus Fly traps … what type of mediums are suitable for them?
Honestly, I actually don't know...perhaps research on their natural habitat and see what they grow in?
Very helpful...thank you!
Wow very good dea you thank you so much, 🥰😍👍
Seems like alocasia is a terrestrial which requires more organic medium but the soil premix is mainly inorganic with large chunks of pumice. Does not seem consistent.
V good question. We forgot to mention the diff between mix for alocasia and philo. This is where we also look back at where alocasias are grown in natural habitat. Some in nature are found in slopes, in areas with generous amounts of rocks/ limestone. This means to emulate that condition, something fast draining and highly inorganic is more suitable. Also need to understand the specific one you have in mind. We tried to generalise with some principles but also the golden rule stands on understanding their natural habitat and then trying to emulate that.
@@leafing.around i guess alocasia is not quite the conventional terrestrial that grows on forest ground.
Thank you for doing my request
Let me know if you learnt something helpful!
What do I need to mix for the soul in my string of pearls please
Look for something close to a Succulent mix I would think.
I got their Aroid mix from Lazada SG.
This is available in Spore too??
Sorry. I brought it last year from Shopee. I just checked and it’s not available anymore.
oh Irene, thank you for ending that horrible satanic mosquito, i cant stand them, and for providing a fan for a light breeze for your guest. While this video has good information, the reality i think is that plants have a way they adjust to less than ideal mediums, ( once not overwatered ) i generally use the same combination of medium for all my aroids, mild adjustments for philodendrons, its basically to get a good drainage, i never used that pumice at the top, i balance plants with a piece of y-shaped stick and tie string until it anchors itself properly, ( i tap as i fill and press gently on the edge when done, by the way your hair looks fabulous, happy gardening and have a beautiful day. !!
So true...they are adaptable...some people even grow them in (gasp!) 100% water! Tapping gently on the edge...this is also what Jhoon said except I think the mic went off. Thanks Rey for the fab hair comment. I have hair insecurity - not much left😆
@@leafing.aroundoh my, I have a sort of reverse mohawk thing going on myself on my head 🤣🤣
❤👍
I can't find pumice in my place, what can replace pumice?
any large chunky thing....maybe lavarocks, perlite...even leca?
Thanks, all i have is perlite 😁👍. I love watching your video.
Any type of gravels
“I thought you weren’t buying any more plants LOL ? “
You caught me....big time 😅

Kuch plant cheap rate pe vejo my daughter..

Gasp she said plant NERD 😂😂😂
Do you not agree?? :P
Charcoal is different from activated carbon. Don't use activated carbon!
Oh why is that....I am really keen to know why not activated carbon?
@@leafing.around Activated carbon has very fine pores to adsorb chemicals, including nutrients. So, nutrients will be less available to the plants. Activated carbon helps remove toxic waste in closed systems like a terrarium but in a free draining pot, you don't need it. Regular charcoal chunks are okay.
@@1marcelo thank you....I had since this video actually trying to understand charcoal and their functions more
@@leafing.around Thank you for your awesome videos, Irene!
