Completely agree. Saka twice beat his man and put the ball in the box and he's nowhere to be seen. He can't press, he's incredibly slow, doesn't win headers. Yes we know he's a great finisher but beyond that he offers you NOTHING. In fact he hampers us in him coming 40 yard back. I think it's crying out for Watkins. We need someone to play on the shoulder and get into the 6 yard box. Wouldn't object to Toney starting either but this is Southgate. Kane plays whatever.

Kane looks tired and doesn't seem to be moving right but Its also Southgate's nonsensical tactics and player choices.
Kane has never been a hold up and lay the ball off striker, someone who wrestlers with defenders for a position. What he is incredible at is moving off the defender into the gap between them and the midfield and turning on the ball. For that to work two things need to happen.
1. The wingers must be willing to be the players stretching the defence with smart runs between centre back and full back to help create the space.
2. You can't have 2 number 10 roles in the team suffocating that space by dragging the midfielders with them clogging it all up.
This is on Southgate, he's a coward of a manager. Too scared of what the media will say, too scared to upset his mates on the team, too scared to push for a winner, too scared to make meaningful changes in game, too scared of what the opposition can do.
GS has in the past been good for England but his time as Englsnd manager needs to end

Actually felt bad for Tottenham fans in that game. Liverpool were there for the taking and Spurs just didn't turn up. Kane was injured wasn't he? I seem to remember there was a rush to try and get him fit. Should never have been playing.
@@monkey39128 Correct, I don't know any fellow Spurs fans that wanted him to start, it was his 1st game back from injury, he wasn't fit. The poor handball penalty in the 1st minutes of the game didn't exactly help either (rule was changed after this game).
Should have been a game Tottenham won, they were the better team on the night and penned Liverpool back for the majority of the game, but couldn't score, Liverpool put their chance away and the rest is history.

Ivan Toney does not do any less than Kane is doing. That's your answer. Kane looks miles off. He's sluggish... he's constantly drifting about in the wrong positions almost hiding in amongst a safer zone so he doesn't have to run.
We've had so many minutes where our attack looks stunted and lacking in creativity and it starts with him. Is he even fit? If he starts then there needs to be a serious look at subbing him a lot earlier than he has done.

I remember in the last World Cup that Kane was pissing me off because he was often not in the optimum position where a number 9 should be when crosses were coming into the box. Again, he did it today. Saka cuts a dangerous ball across the 6 yard box and Kane's not there, he's on the edge of the box. He's supposed to be on the 6 yard box line for a tap in. That's just one example, there were others. I don't understand how he's such a prolific goalscorer when he doesn't even want to position himself in the prime position for scoring goals.

Kane isn't "dropping into midfield" he's just playing so slow that he's still in the middle of the pitch even when the team has moved forward into the box. The game moves faster than him. He looks like he's playing walking football while the rest are playing normally.
Did you see the bit where even Foden went past him to press. He is good enough to be a total liability but he should not be starting games unfit. The good thing is that I’d rather he come in last 30 minutes and impact the game. Then you have that opportunity to have him take the penalty rather have him starting and going for a leisurely country walk.

Spot on. Kane is NOT the guy to get you over the line to win trophies. Yes, he will get you to the point of winning something and score plenty of goals on the way. But when it comes to the big pressure games, the games that decide winners or losers, the proper crunch games, he just does not cut it in those games. It's as simple as that.

Kane has generally been good for England down the years but I agree he shouldn't be guaranteed to start. There's definitely certain games where other players are a better fit. Like you'd imagine Kane would struggle against VVD but Watkins could at least run around and tire him out.

Olli Watkins scored 19 goals last season in "The best league in the world" and he isn't getting game time. 19/20 goals a season was considered fantastic a few years ago, but now it doesn't even warrant a start for England. What's happened to this sport?
Foden ain't going to pick out anyone. Madison behind Kane would've given kane the confidence to make runs. But Foden and others dont have the passing ability to create chances with incredible passing. Crazy that they didn't bring Madison.
Has anyone noticed that Kane jogs slower than walking speed, and absolutely never speeds up. He's only pretending to put in an effort out there. He's been fooling everyone with this. This last game was especially bad because there were times he didn't even pretend to close down a defender or make a leisurely jog into the box.
Kane is excellent at scoring goals, but isn’t versatile in terms of contributing to other aspects of the game IMO. We’ve gotten away with it so far, but as we start to face stronger teams it could be a problem.

The main worry is that we need moments to win games and we hardly create any chances in any game against any team. The only time we looked threatening in that whole 90 mins was after we conceded. Harry Kane world clas striker but what have Bayern done to him he looks out of shape and sluggish to much muscle mass you lose your sharpness and speed especially over the first ten yards
I made the comment during the match, Kane looked like he was treading through treacle such was he's lack of energy and movement. I've never seen Kane like this ever playing for England
