Whats ludicrous mate is that Spain will commit numbers when attacking and when we win the ball and want to counter we will have nobody to counter with cos our star forward will either be in his own box, will be too slow to get behind the spanish lines or or will not be a legit outlet to get the ball to on the cou ter cos he couldn't trap a bag of sand. All signs point to a need for pace up front. Watkins should defo start for me.
Yes but Watkins hasn’t played all tournament and throwing him into the deep end will be a car crash.
The thing is we don't have a game changing passer to even reach Watkins half the time. It's why I slightly lean towards bringing him on as a sub... those lines become easier to break that way.
What's ludicrous is you actually thinking that's how a striker should play. That is, and has always supposed to be the job of the attacking midfielders like Saka, Foden and Bellingham. You don't solely rely on one striker to counter attack ffs use your brain. You think this is playground football and we need a goal hanger? 🤣

Lots of teams play with a striker and two playing off either side, we have with Sterling and Saka or Rashford and Saka. No reason Watkins couldn't play that Sterling role, but then you lose a bit in midfield, and either have to drop Bellingham, Foden or Mainoo.
Why play Kane if he's not performed in the first 6 games? I hope I'm wrong but it seems like we are going to end up giving Spain the first hour to do whatever and then we will put on our best team in the last 20 minutes again and hope someone does something individually incredible and wins it for us.

The goals he’s scored is such a mask. What about if we look at minutes taken to score and compare Kane against Watkins?
It is too late to change Kane now. These kinds of changes are done before the tournament; to see how it works. If you change at this stage, the players may not have the same confidence, because at least with Kane they know they won before - however bad. If you add a new player now, the team may have a doubt if the new system will work - that kind of doubt is not something you can have in the final.

The news came out in the Hungarian team that Szoboszlai was only at 50% fitness level carrying muscle injuries the whole tournament.

What ludicrous is Spanish players will run in behind, put players through, and take on the full back from both flanks. Phil, Bellingham and Kane don’t do any of that. Let’s hope they start doing that. Let’s have it right, when we need goals the bench is what will supply or score them. That has been the only strategy that Southgate has maybe accidentally masterminded.
Kane isn't the problem. Everyone in England's front line wants the ball played to their feet. Kane's best when he has players running past him. There isn't a striker in world football with better vision or passing range than Kane. It's no coincidence that Kane and Son have the most PL goal combinations between two players in history since Son is lightning quick and runs in behind.

Watkins creates problems for defenders, Kane does not. They dong even need to mark Kane. Watkins will pull defenses apart, creating opportunities for Foden, Bellingham. Harry does FA.

Gareth Southgate has been lucky. The only reason why he has been successful is because of the talent of players that we have at our disposal. It's nothing to do with him. It's everything to do with the players. He has no tactical awareness. He has no tactical prowess. We are where we are because of the talented players that we have. If we win it's got nothing to do with Southgate. A better manager would have won the world cup in 2018 And the Euros in 2021. Southgate is lucky that for the first time in probably more than 50 years that the England squad is actually better than Brazil I have never seen that in my lifetime. He is blessed to be an England manager at a time when some of the best players in football just happen to be English.
