If you play a 3 with left footers at both wingback the shape will be incredibly bizarre. Either start the same as the last few games or put Shaw in a 4.
It's a logical take defensively but haven't you all been moaning about Southgate's defensive style, if we are playing 3 centre backs then Shaw should start, Rice and Guehi will cover Yamal
Need Rice to stay centrally and win the battle with Rodri. Easier said than done but if we go nearly man for man in midfield then our wing backs should be able to keep the Spanish wingers relatively quiet and then hopefully Foden and Bellingham can pick up more space to do the damage going forward. Gareth Southgate has been lucky. The only reason why he has been successful is because of the talent of players that we have at our disposal. It's nothing to do with him. It's everything to do with the players. He has no tactical awareness. He has no tactical prowess. We are where we are because of the talented players that we have. If we win it's got nothing to do with Southgate. A better manager would have won the world cup in 2018 And the Euros in 2021. Southgate is lucky that for the first time in probably more than 50 years that the England squad is actually better than Brazil I have never seen that in my lifetime. He is blessed to be an England manager at a time when some of the best players in football just happen to be English.
