  • We all get offended by something or someone at some point. It’s part of being human and living in an imperfect world. But how we respond to these offenses can have a lasting impact on our lives, relationships, and well-being. That’s why it’s important to know how to handle them in a healthy way. “taking offense,” is a powerful tool for managing your reactions and addressing offensive behaviors with grace and poise.

But what if you know that person really well and you know those kind of questions are not because they are concerned but they really are making comments on someone’s character.

This is a fine line because someone’s intent behind the simple question or inquiry is where the defense response may come from, especially if the person delivering the inquiry has a history of being passive aggressive or antagonistic.

But what about when the comments are part of a regular pattern of looking down on me and questioning my abilities? The pattern is of ignoring my feelings and not listening to me as a wife.

Sounds like you need to have an in-depth discussion about how you feel when he does xyz.

Makes me wonder how defensive we should be also. How much is protective verses possessiveness? I understand it boils down to checking one's own heart and motive.

But how to live peacefully, overlooking their offenses when you can't share anything with them. You can't tell them in a nice way also how we would like it. What to do when the person is unpredictable.
    Really need help here.

Dr. Cloud, I would like to put in a request. Can you do a teaching on lying? Particularly, adult children who habitually lie. My 32 year-old daughter constantly lies to me and a lot of other people. At this point, she doesn't realize how it's affecting our relationship and I need to either have a conversation with her (which I've already tried, and it did not go well) or make some hard decisions.
Thank you for all your encouraging work, it has helped to make a difference in my life. Blessings!
