This was by far the best care /spotlight video on Tricopsis Pumila, I have been doing weeks of research after seeing them at my LFS. 💕💕 I have 2 in a 5 gallon planted tank on my desk, & they are SO captivating. Their blue eyes & tiny sparkles are what drew me to them. I just love the curious & sassy personalities of Gouramis & other anabantids 😂 I love seeing how others aquascape for theirs! :) 🌱
Thanks for doing this video! I got one of these little guys accidently in a bag of danios a couple of months ago and have been trying so hard to figure out what he was but its been so hard because he was so tiny when I first got him. Super interesting fish with a good personality!
Hi, I just discovered that video and trichopsis pumila are a must have indeed! One little detail though: floating plants are needed for those shy fish but don't let them cover the entire surface as the gourami will need to gulp air from time to time, using their labyrinth organ.
I'm a bit late to the gourami party, but I honestly found these little dudes in my local shop, had a perfect tank for them, and had to have them. I've got 3 in a 25 gallon, heavily planted with both sand +root tabs and fluorite black, right now, but will be getting 5 more once I'm able to order from the same local store.
Nice video. I have 8 in my 20 long and absolutely love them. One thing that you didn't mention is that they make a clicking or croaking sound when pairing. It's what drew me to them in the first place. Unfortunately I also have pear Danios in the same tank and will be moving them shortly as they drive my gouramis crazy. They are too active in the tank.
From where I live in Malaysia , they are found in abundant in all swamps, creeks, ponds / basically everywhere lol. They r cute & very shy allright. I love catching em as a child years ago.
Can you do a species spotlight on Betta Imbellis? There isn't that much information on the species. It is also a species that should be more popular. I've seen you mention then in a couple videos, but a dedicated video would be nice.
Jason, we can and will get to it in the future, as you mention we did have it in our rather lengthy Betta Care Video and our list is pretty long, that said we do like the fact it is a peaceful species and we agree it should be more popular.
How do they do with shrimp? I bought some because someone told me they do well with cherry shrimp but someone else told me no. So I’m not sure what to do now. Also mine are nowhere near shy or reclusive. They’re always out and about. They seem very territorial. I have 3 and each have their spot and chase the others out of their spot.
They are not safe for shrimp. They will form hunting parties and take down your biggest shrimps, even when the shrimp are not molting. I've seen it on UA-cam myself. These guys are ruthless. They're amazing, but ruthless :D
Ooooh! I love blackwater tanks and this fish is stunning!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I will probably stock one of my tanks with this gem!! ;) I'm excited to try out your bug bites for my bettas!! And I recently saw you have small tropical food as well!! I will try that for my Guppies!! =) You have a great company with great products!! Thank you!!
Hi! I’m looking into these guys for a five gallon tank, you think I could keep two in there? It’s heavily planted, and if I can I’d like to keep some shrimp in there as well. Do you think that would be ok for them?
I got 4 of them together with ottos, birigittae and pigmy corys and love them. I am having hard time sexing them, any tips other than more colour on fins? TY
Hi I recently got a group of sparkling gourami, I was going to add neon terta would be okay or should it just them and some pygmy cory, sorry for asking but there not a lot of information on them.
I love species spotlight :O) I would really like to see a Golden Honey Gourami species spotlight. Because I couldn't find much about that one, but could find a lot more about the "normal" Honey Gourami.
I have been watching a channel here on UA-cam that has these little cuties in a lovely planted tank. My aquarium goal is to one day have a tank like that. How do you feel about Australian and Bosemani Rainbowfish? What about Corydoras? Maybe Balloon Mollies, Ryukin, or Shubukin goldfish? (Lol, I have a LOT of fish that I'm interested in!) Would you ever consider doing a Species Spotlight for snails? And on the topic of snails, do you think that the amount of copper in the Fluval Bug Bites could potentially harm a Mystery/Apple snail?
Florence, so many comments and questions :) We are fans of rainbows and corys for sure, mollies yes, balloon variants we respectfully withhold comment...Goldfish, you always need to consider larger aquariums with strong filtration, we do find them interesting, especially great for keeping in ponds, more room and a great way to enjoy them. There are some inverts we will consider, but, we have so many fish and plants to cover it will be a while. Copper is not issue in Bugbites as it is a trace amount and is actually an important trace element to include in a well rounded formulation. Glad you liked the Sparkling Gourami video, we really like those little guys too!
beginner here.. have 75g and would like one species in it.. I love guppies ( open to any other suggestions).. Would a school of Gourami's work? Also I'd would like to know how many i can stock for my size tank? Thanks Joe
Joe, if you like species specific type set ups, which we think are really cool as well, why not consider a South American biotope type tank. White sand bottom, lots of vertically oriented branchy driftwood and a big school of cardinal tetras with a school of corydoras for the bottom. Both species should be kept in schools. A school of 75 Cardinals and 12 C. sterbai would make for a lovely set up. Medium low light intensity with perhaps a few E. bleheri (amazon sword plants), the cardinals would be spectacular in this type of set up. Gourami's are not really schooling fish in general.
How big can you grow them out?? I seen one at my local fish store at like 3 inches, 1 inch length!! May have been female idk but it was HUGE!!!! I still regret not buying her/him
If you are referring to P motaguensis we likely will not be doing one anytime soon, it is a 1 foot beast with quite the temper....our larger tanks in the aquatic lab do not have tank mates that would survive it...
thanks for the suggestion. i have plenty of paradise and really attracted to firemouths//edit, what do you think about compatibility of betta and a sparkling gourami, 20 long tank

Thank you for the compliment and for the information, good point. Are you keeping them with lots of plants?
Yes-heavily planted. They love it. They all have their own areas in the tank that they like to hang out in.
From where I live in Malaysia , they are found in abundant in all swamps, creeks, ponds / basically everywhere lol. They r cute & very shy allright. I love catching em as a child years ago.
I love these. Can I ask what plants those are in the back ground please?
They are Hygrophila pinnatifida

Great spot light......I LOVE the plant in the tank. What is it ?
And once again please do a plant feature too.
PS my aqua babies love Bug Bites.
The plant is Hygrophila pinnatafida, we did our first plant spotlight on that plant, stay tuned.
Fluval Aquatics
So glad to hear that.
Please do low light plants and their care.
Cheers Rick

Hi! I’m looking into these guys for a five gallon tank, you think I could keep two in there? It’s heavily planted, and if I can I’d like to keep some shrimp in there as well. Do you think that would be ok for them?
Yes it would be ok, especially since it is heavily planted.
Can I keep them with guppies
Hi David, in a well planted tank, yes that should not be an issue.
Thanks
Just ordered
I would love a species spotlight on Vampire shrimp / Giant African Fan Shrimp !
How many in a group? I’m thinking about 3-5 for a 5 gallon
Hi there! We'd recommend about 10 to 15 US Gal for a small group of these fish. If a pair forms, you may need to remove some of the others!
Thank you soooooo much for this
What about a hillstream loach?
We will consider that species, would make for an interesting biotope we have yet to do....
I got 4 of them together with ottos, birigittae and pigmy corys and love them. I am having hard time sexing them, any tips other than more colour on fins? TY
Once they mature males are a bit larger and their fins are a little more elongated. As they grow and mature the differences become more evident.
Hi I recently got a group of sparkling gourami, I was going to add neon terta would be okay or should it just them and some pygmy cory, sorry for asking but there not a lot of information on them.
Neon tetras will be fine with sparkling gouramis, yes.
@@fluval thanks
nice video, I would love a Species Spotlight on Dwarf/Pee Puffer fish, your input would be most appreciated 👍
Cool fish, we hear you!
Could I keep one alone? Or would it be too shy and lonely?
It would be ok to keep one, densely planted is the key.
Should I buy a Sparkling or a Honey?
Either species is great provided you have a well planted aquarium with the right tank mates if any...
Just bought this sparkling gourami a pair.. but now i am worry about my cherry shrimp and amano shrimp.. will they it them? 🙁
Sparkling gouramis are usually not aggressive at all with shrimp, make sure the tank is well planted.

@@fluval TY very much ;)
Can you do a spotlight on harlequin rasboras?
We have done a video on closely related species, Trigonostigma espei : ua-cam.com/video/45vbomH-Sb8/v-deo.html
How big can you grow them out?? I seen one at my local fish store at like 3 inches, 1 inch length!! May have been female idk but it was HUGE!!!! I still regret not buying her/him
3 inches is not the norm, that is for sure.
Question: I am planning my first aquarium and would like to get 6 honey gourami. What would you recommend for male/female ratio?
How large is the aquarium, we assume you will have it well planted?
Hi, it is 33 gallons and yes it is very well planted.
Its funny these fish originated from my country yet we rarely see them in local fish stores
Such a beautiful and interesting small anabantid, great for densely planted 10 to 20 gallon aquariums.
Can you do a specie spotlight on parachromis mota? There isn't much information about them.

Fluval Aquatics thanks for the reply. Instead of parachromis mota can you do it on dario dario, :)
Dario dario is already on the list..stay tuned!
Fluval Aquatics thanks alot
i am currently trying to find these
brilliant vid, just picked one up today and had no information on them, googled the fish and found this great video.
I had 6 of these awesome guys. Unfortunately they died from a heat wave :( hope to keep them again!
I'd love to have them, but I have a firemouth with a paradise fish...
thanks for the suggestion. i have plenty of paradise and really attracted to firemouths//edit, what do you think about compatibility of betta and a sparkling gourami, 20 long tank
@@bobs5596 Labyrinth fish tend to get along together badly. My paradise fish and three-spot gourami used to hate each other.
I'd like to see blue rams plz
Mike, that will happen in the future, on the list!
@@fluval thank you
Please could you do a species spotlight on Celestial Pearl Danios? Would love to see that!
Calvin, on the list!
Awesome! Cant wait!😁
👍🏻👍🏻🤠
It looks like a Betta fish
Ooooo
