- A Toronto family says they were alarmed when the glass on the door of the front-loading washing machine suddenly exploded.

My top loader whirlpool is over 20 years old and washes our clothes just fine. I will never buy a front loader.

Same. WP bought in '96. Only ever needed one repair while under five year warranty.

Horrible design. It would cost $5 for the company to add a film on the outside to prevent shattered glass going everywhere. It should just crack and be contained.

For anyone wondering how that happened, front loaders have a concave glass setup. It fits in between the drum that is rotating. Sometimes if the washer is overloaded, the drum will rub on the glass door. The glass will heat up. As soon as cold water touches it, it will literally explode. Another is bad shocks and if the washer is shaking. If the inner drum wobbles, be careful. You can also open the door and see if you see any markings on the top of the glass.
If that were the case wouldnt have it shattered when the door was closed and not open?
@@El_Scorcho_not necessarily, it could happen anytime. Sometimes if it is super hot and if the temperature outside is cooler, I could shatter. I’m almost certain that the washer had a problem with the spider/bearings. If you notice the break pattern, it is right where the would come in contact with it. I have seen it 3 times before

In this case it’s nickel sulphide inclusions that caused it to break.
So awful. Now I’m scared about my family one. I think they have this kind. I wonder what made it shatter? I’m guess the hot water or a lot of clothes?
That is not glass but rather plastic. How on earth did this nonsense get to the news...Oh yeah, we are in Canada, that's right.
Front loading washer aren’t better Imo. They slowly start fill up with mold that is very hard to clean and sits inside the tub and stick all over the rubber inside.

Washing laundry shouldn't result in a thumping noise. If it does, you're doing it wrong-and you're putting your glass washer door at risk.

After a very terrifying explosion of a tempered glass cutting board... I refuse to have any tempered glass in my home! I was slicing cucumbers for a spicey cuc salad n visiting w two friends at my island counter/breakfast nook..
I'm just grateful my nieces n nephews weren't there when it happened, as they very often would be right beside me looking for fruit or veggie pieces while cutting... their eyes n lil faces "right there" at counter-level height, in the line of fire.. 😱🙀
My Samsung front load dryer door glass shattered today. I was only drying towels.
They absolutely DO NOT clean better than top loads...they are the worst style washing machines...the classic top load washers are the best.

Couldn't agree more. My Samsung dishwasher disintegrated it's own shelves.
Never had an issue with Samsung in 25 years. If there is something wrong they have great customer service.

LOL this is worthy of the news? I mean Samsung replaced it. Glass sometimes breaks. I have had these machines for over 25 years now with 0 issues.
