Yep, I plan to learn violin in a few months and this is really depressing haha, even though I know it doesn't make any sense comparing myself to these prodigies, especially as an adult who never received any education on music.
They didn't mention that Midori was playing a 3/4 violin before swapping with the concertmaster. So we are talking about different SIZE and not just a different violin.
YES!!!!! Also I believe the string broke twice. After she switched with the concertmaster, the string broke too and she had to switch again. And that piece is HARD. When you break down all the things she had to do, switching to A string, switching up the size of the violin, changing to different violins....it's like, how did she even do all that??????? Sad to see some of the comments are calling out twoset for jealousy. Jealousy is an angry, negative, destructive emotion. brett and eddy have been glowing lately!! i’m so proud of them!
Midori didn't just switch to a different violin. She switched to a violin of a difference size! The violin with which she started was 7/8, but of course the concert master's was full-size.
Moreover, after a short interval she managed to break the E string on his violin too, and so she had to swap violins again. Worse, on this second occasion she had to play for a while without a shoulder rest, since her violin was still being reassembled after the first break. When the solo part had a couple of bars off, she refitted the shoulder rest herself in an instant, joining back in seamlessly more or less with her back to the audience and walking back to her position.
When they finished the piece, Bernstein almost collapsed with the stress of it all and utter amazement at how she had taken such mishaps in her stride.
Bruh, Uncle Brett with that mustache. I can't even focus on the soloists lol.

The Midori clip where she broke her string
She broke the E on her own 3/4 violin
Then she took the concert masters instrument which was 4/4 !!!
Broke the string again and switched the instrument AGAIN to finish the performance
She was playing Bernstein’s own piece while he was conducting
Moreover, when she switched the second time the violin she was given had no shoulder rest.
So she played it without one for 45 seconds until she effected a lightning fast fit of the rest during a couple of bars break in the soloist's part!

Make a video reviewing composers playing their own pieces. There are a lot on UA-cam. It would be very interesting.☺️☺️☺️
Please @TwoSetViolin make this video.
I used to think of prodigies as people who were impressive for playing so well so young, but now I realise they don’t just play well, they play in a way that you could listen to as a recording not for the age of the player but the beauty of the playing.

It's amazing how at the young age each of these amazing musicians was already displaying the style, the character of their playing which we hear in their mature years. It's another sign of what an unique instrument violin is - what richness of colours, styles, characters it can convey.

Thank you gentlemen for sharing these glimpses into the child genius of these wonderful artists. Also, thank you always for your joyful and humble reflections! Peace!
Thank you so much for this video, guys! Many of us suffer from low self-esteem due to the fact that there is someone younger and more talented out there. Which makes us feel like we don't deserve to be where we are and do what we do, like we are not good enough. Therefore, it is very important that you openly show your path, where you started, and what you eventually came to. And it makes your audience feel a lot better, knowing that even that talented guys, great musicians, like you, can also suffer from such incecurities. So we're all in the same boat. That means it is absolutely pointless to compare your talent with someone's, because there will always be someone who will be better than you. But everyone has their own path and pace of development, and if you compare yourself today, then only with yourself yesterday.
