The show was actually set in the Midlands, and the actress and actor who played Hyacinth and her husband were both from the North - Liverpool to be exact.
Absolute certain omission is "Steptoe and Son" - beautifully written and brilliantly acted, and I did particularly like "The Royle Family". Could debate some of the rankings of some of the shows on this list , but overall a fairly good list. "Fawlty Towers" is rightfully No. 1, so this list gets a B+.

A TV adaptation of the PG Wodehouse books doesn’t sit with any of the other formats (all others are original comedies) and there are many great shows that didn’t make the list, such as ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, “Open All Hours’, ‘Not the Nine O’Clock News’ and ‘Father Ted’. I understand that the list is a matter of opinion but if you have to include something by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, then ‘A Bit of Fry and Laurie’ would’ve been a better choice. Jeeves and Wooster was more light-hearted drama than comedy.
Don't know if points are given for being familiar to Americans, but I remember Jeeves & Wooster running on PBS. Then again, a Google search reveals that there were lots of others that ran there as well, though I couldn't find a reliable complete list. (I think "Summer Wine" and "Father Ted" were among them...)
Gavin and Stacey shouldn't be on this list. Dad's Army should be higher culturally. I'm surprised neither Harry Enfield and Chums or Fast Show made the list but i suppose they could be in a separate category.

@@geneyboii I'm a Faulty Towers fan but I cant put it in the same conversation as Only Fools and Horses. For starters Del Boy is an infinitely more layered character than Basil Faulty and that also goes for the entire show as a whole. Towers was a pretty one dimensional slapstick goofball comedy and while it maybe does that better than any other show ever has, its still a tier below Only Fools and Horses which is a far more well rounded show.
