Emma, I want you to do a book rec for the 16 MBTI personality types
Oh my god yes that’s such a good idea
I support, that is an amazing idea!
omg yes!!
Emma is the barista of books. No matter what crazy request it is (one caffeine shot one decaf shot, steamed whole milk with nonfat foam) she’s just like, “Yep, got it!” I absolutely adore Paradise Lost by the way! Have a good weekend!
We should all have a copy of one hundrer years of solitude on all time in public transportation so we know how to recognize each other as Emma's Channel avid watchers. It'd be like a club badge except it's a book
Yes!
by the way... an Emma's Book Club badge would be an excellent idea!!!!
I’m so down to it!
IM DOING THIS FOR NOW ON 🖤
When I try to come up with a recommendation I literally blank, as if I have never read a single book in my life. Emma impresses me with her information/story detail retention
emma is one of the only youtubers that can perfectly match vibes to books flawlessly
I am German and had to laugh and cry at the same time when you said that German trains (Deutsche Bahn) are always on time... :') Love your channel Emma

Ah Emma! Thank you so much for bringing books back into my life! You and Carolyn are the biggest inspiration to start (and then never ever end!) reading. You both have gotten me through my days of pre-surgery, post-surgery and radiation therapy. Your videos are my companions during my lunch every day, and your love for books has brought back mine! And special extra thank you for inspiring me to re-read War and peace, this was such a journey and such a pleasant one. Thank you thank you thank you!
💙💙💙
You are inspiration personified. To read, write, learn new languages, spend more time in nature, cook, do yoga, shop at thrift stores... I mean... sheesh, I just love you.
As someone living in Germany who travels a lot by train, knows how late those trains can be and also loooves Dune, I was very happy and surprised to see you practically read my mind with that recommendation. Thanks for your videos Emma, I wish you all the best :)
I need this as an entire segment of your channel. Your encyclopedic knowledge of these intensely specific prompts is what I aspire to be.
I cannot describe what it is, but you’re videos are so comforting, they make me feel at home
These are some of my favorite videos that you create. It always astounds me how you are able to come up with such specific recommendations. I don't think I could do it. Great video as always!
Forgot to do this before but I'd like to share some recs that for me more or less fit some of these "prompts":

Han Kang - The Vegeterian
Marieke Lucas Rijneveld - The Discomfort of Evening
(shameless self-promotion but I'm cat.andherbooks on IG in case anyone wants to talk books and share more recommendations)
I've never watched your channel before, but this video came out at the best time. I've been looking for recommendations because I've just gotten back into reading and I decided that I'm going to give my parents a list of books as my Christmas list this year, so thank you for helping me add to that list
you found a gem!! emmie is the best
Have fun getting back into reading!
Ah welcome!!! So excited for you and no problem!!🥰
Hii, thank you so much for doing the videos you do. I found you only recently (about two weeks ago) but you became my "comfort channel" from the start. Often when I feel bad I just come here and watch your videos, and they always make my day. I love your voice and the fact that you're studying literature is so amazing! You're a really big inspiration for me. You also got me into reading, so a HUGE thank you for that too. Please continue with doing what you're doing (and please say hi to Calcifer because I adore him!) and again, HUGE thank you.
I'm just so stoked that I was driving while listening to your recommendations, and KNEW you were going to choose Perfume for the narrated by a murderer prompt. Love your channel, never commented before, but you have truly reawakened my love for literature. Forever thankful!
Have a great day, Emmie
Just when I put myself on a book buying ban, Emmie kicks down the door and gives me a list of books to buy 😂
My deepest apologies🤷🏻♀️
Hi Emma, the Deutsche Bahn really is notoriously late!! The stereotypical German is known for being on time, as you surely know, but we have lots of infrastructure and systemic problems with railways, so jokes about the trains running late are a tale as old as time (and very realistic unfortunately!)
Thank you so much for your videos, the love and energy you put into it and for being our safe space on the Internet!!
my perceptions of German trains have been shattered lol - and no thank you!! that's so kind
Facts. 😂 The easiest way to talk to random people and make friends is by complaining about the Deutsche Bahn. It‘s a truth universally acknowledged, that the hatred for the DB is the strongest force to unite the country.
@@lilydelacour Biggest sense of community in all of Germany are the annoyed glances people send each other when train delays are announced over the speakers
You always make me want to read sooo badly!! Your recommendations are the best ❤
Thank you!!!!🥰
for a book featuring only one character I would also really recommend "The Wall" by Marlen Haushofer ... it's about a middle-aged woman suddenly getting cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious wall, and her trying to survive in the alps - I thought it would be boring at first, but it went by so quickly and felt so ... magical?
That sounds pretty interesting, thank you for the rec. I'll have to add that to my list
Oh my gosh, finally someone who talks about this book! It is such a fascinating and good book!! One of my biggest favourites! How did you come across this book, if I may ask?
@@lenavanhalen8446 Yes so true! I think I found it because the author lived really close to where I live and wanted to try and read more Austrian lit since I tend to read a lot in English... also a friend of mine is writing her master thesis on how the woods can change women or sth like that and she mentioned this book
The aesthetics of you holding the Oresteia book and your nails matching the cover perfectly 👌
I really love specific book recs. thank you for your time, Emma❤️
for 21:35 i would also recommend Revelator by Daryl Gregory, takes place in Appalachia and it's a fun but dark combo between 1930s bootlegging and a group following an old world god in a southern baptist world.
5:01 “fiction for someone who works in a restaurant”
not really fiction but reads like one. I want to recommend ‘Down and Out in Paris and London’ by George Orwell. Yes. It’s written by the 1984 guy.
It portrays Orwell’s experience of being in poverty in 1930s Paris and London. And here, Orwell works in a hectic hotel restaurant in Paris of that time. Half of the book circles around his life doing that job.
It has that early 1900s Europe vibe like Giovanni’s Room. Lets you experience how it was like working at a restaurant at that time in Paris. And also talks to you about how poverty pulls people down. How poverty is ultimately the society’s fault.
It was an interesting read, a fast one, too. It’s an Essay, Orwell retracing his life back then. It honestly reads better than other fictional books. Really recommend it.
Whoever read this to this point, thank you, and hope you have a great day!
I feel like you would love The Secret Society for Irregular Witches! It’s so cute and the romance is very light but adorable and the characters are very down to earth and realistic and it’s not cheesy and so perfect for cozying up
Freakin' love it when you do these book recommendation stuff. Bunch of awesome books in 'em.
for the person's request at 15:15 definitely read A man called Ove by Fredrik Backman
You're such a good sport with these, thanks Emmie
My norton anthology of theory and criticism was sitting next to me on my desk while I was watching this video 😭 it was staring me down while I was crocheting and watching you and waiting for my zoom class to start. also lovely video! the perfect way to start a day, coffee and book recs
Could you do a crash course in literature analysis? Also how to get into literature?
I love this idea!
For the last one, I can think of a book which is the whole 3 in 1 deal - "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durell. Lots of nature, insects, animals and a cast of very quirky and entertaining characters ! Loved the video Emmie
I second this! 😁
You are so well spoken! Ty so much for these reccomendations❤
Emma, as a German I feel it upon me to break this very sad news to you: The Deutsche Bahn is terribly unpunctual. It's actually a gag amongst pretty much all Germans.
Also, I love how you didn't get the reference to House of The Dragon from the Negroni Sbagliato question, haha.
my favorite videos of urs!! They are so entertaining and useful! I always end up getting a bunch of new books added to my tbr so tysm🎀
Glad you like them!💙💙
hi I love your videos especially the long ones 💖 thank u for being endlessly inspiring when talking about books. It really helps fill the void of having bo one to talk about literature with
I love your passion for books!! Your knowledge is mind blowing!
in Germany the train almost never comes punctual. Last year 40% of the trains were late
The first video like this you did made me fall in love with your channel!
:’)
You know it's a good day when Emma uploads.
That was really fun, I love the concept! I've added some of the suggestions to my tbr. Also, I have a recommendation for a book set in a cave, The Actual Star by Monica Byrne which I read earlier this year - a cave in Belize is central to the story.
The Silent Patient was one of my first books I read, i loved it so much !!!!! And so excited to read some books you reccomended
We all enjoy what Emmie has in store for us. We all hope to see her make more content like this.
Willow and spinning silver, A+ comparison. The minute I heard that song, I was transported to that world
Emma, your recommendations never disappoint! 💕💕📚💕💕
I LOVE when you do these !!!!
Ahh I'm so excited to check out Idoru along with some of your other recs! Thank you sm emma! ❤
Ooh if you end up reading it hope you love it!!!
13:25 Les Liasons Dangereuses (the classic that inspired the movie Cruel Intentions starring Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe) is also a classic that is definitely in epistolary format!
- Book about books: I have a couple for this one so buckle up
- The diary of a bookseller by Shaun Bythell
- The bookish life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman
- The last chance library by Freya Sampson
- Something if you miss your home and your mom: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- A romance book that won’t make me cringe and die: All rhodes lead here by Mariana Zapata
- A book to cope with growing up: Eliza and her monsters by Francesca Zappia
- A book with fall vibes, music and magical realism: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
- A book that feels like an escape room with lots of puzzles and riddles: Anxious People by Frederik Backman
- I want to feel everything:
- Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
- You’ve reached Sam by Dustin Thao
- The nightingale by Kristin Hannah
For the person that was looking for a book for when you quite your job and don’t know what to do, I would recommend “what would you do if you weren’t afraid” or Que harías si no tuvieras miedo (in Spanish) by Borja Vilaseca
I want the book you´re coming back to time and time again, which makes you fall in love with reading all over again!
The Enchanted Sonata is such a magical read! I'm planning on reading Midnight in Everwood by M.A. Kuzniar soon, I hope it'll give me similar vibes ❄️
Yes I want to get to that one this season too!!! Kinda wanna reread enchanted sonata though 👀 it made me so happy:’)
@@emmiereads Thank you Emma xx The Enchanted Sonata was actually the answer to my specific request! Added it to my cart instantly and I can't wait to cozy up and read it this xmas! I'm in the middle of "Season of migration to the north" and I'm loving it, tabbing every other page 😍
The Enchanted Sonata is the next read on my list! I'm so excited for it🥰
These videos are such a joy to watch. You're the best!
this series is what made me find your channel ! and i’ve been a subscriber for a year now :]
For a book set in a restaurant I would recommend Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler!! It’s about a woman living in NYC who gets a job as a backwaiter in an extremely expensive restaurant and the life that goes along with it. For a book about ornithology I would absolutely recommend A Guide to the Birds of East Africa by Nicholas Drayson, about two men who are competing for the attention of a woman based on how many birds they can spot over the course of 7 days. It was amazing but very slow paced!
My favorite book that takes place in a cave is Free Fall by Joyce Sweeney. Four boys get lost in a cave and the group dynamic is getting to me every single time that I read it. A fantastic book that leaves you breathless.
I'm so happy to see you recommend Machado de Assis! he's one of my favorite authors and I'm also obsessed with the alienist
The enchanted sonata looks wonderful.
Omg your Anne of Green Gables edition is gorgeous!
Having lived in Germany for 17 years, I think I've never actually taken a DB train that was on time :) I'll pick up the book you recommended next time when I am planning to travel with db!
this channel is the best thing i came across in the past year
I'd like a recommendation for a book with the main character who is the reincarnation of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I adored Luna, I wish JK Rowling had written more of her in the books.
I remember how the actress playing Luna said she didn't play Luna - she was Luna (an episode of Normal not normal podcast) and she talked about a book she'd written. So maybe that could be a pick for you? :)
hi!! i'm new here and i just wanted to let you know that i screamed and became really excited when you recommended Machado de Assis! I'm from brazil and i really wish more people would read his work... it's incredibly unique.
i immediately subscribed, you have a new fan!
yayayayayay my favorite genre of emmie video!!!!
I can't WAIT for more of theeeese!
I always love ur videos,ur my idol for reading books and ur vibe is emaculate 💗
I love these videos. Will be curious to see if my specific request is in this one. But I'll save watching it till tomorrow, since I find your videos to lift up my mood the best during breakfast 😂❤
The god of small things is one of the best books I have ever read. At the same time it is absolutely devastating. Essex Serpent was a fantastic read as well and definitely less emotionally draining by comparison, I think. So to whoever asked the question: maybe pick the book depending on your current stress level as well:-). Now I have to read the third one you recommended, really curious!
Always love these videos!
I love this video template so much 😊 also I first subscribed to this channel because Emma raved about One Hundred Years in a random video I accidently stumbled on, and I instantly decided she was cool as a result so yes that pick is accurate
I love that Emma D'Arcy's favourite cocktail also made it into this video!
15:15 depressing, old people and death - replacement by tor ulven
a book by norwegian author, his first and (iirc) only prose book. the writing is very beautiful and interesting and you can feel that prior to this the author wrote poetry
the book itself is similar to stream-of-conciousness style of virginia wolf, and it left me in a very melancholic mood
I LOVE these videos Emma!!! My TBR has got even longer yet again after watching one of your videos! I hope you 3 are enjoying Toronto ❤
ah so happy - and thank you so much!!
Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy for ornithology! One of my favorites of the past couple years.
I've just checked that. What a cover!
Would recommend ‘A Kestrel for a Knave’ by Barry Hines for those interested in ornithology. I read it a few months ago and really loved it. There’s also a film adaptation though I haven’t watched it yet.
I missed it, please a recomendation that just makes me fall in love with Italy
for entomology and ornithology at 31:10, read natural history by carlos fonseca! i believe it’s magical realism, it’s one of my favorite books i read this summer.
Paradise lost is the exact book I was looking for, and I didnt even know I was looking! Thank you
These book recs are so random 😂. Thanks for the video, Love your hair btw
the fact that i had to stop reading my year of rest and relaxation because it was too relatable and was launching me into another depressive episode... 💀
The Alienist is great! It's a classic from Brazil, my country. The writing is very fun
Got some recommendations for myself :)
I remember the 100 book recommendations video and it was so good! Excited for this one ❤
Awe that feels like forever ago - hope you like this one!!😊
For the restaurant book I really recommend The Dishwasher by Stéphane Larue! From Québec but translated in English. Very stressful, but the restaurant scenes are amazing! 🍽️
i love these sm omg
The giver is a good one for reading on your lunch break!
Out of all of these i really want to try out the disaster tourist and spinning silver they sound like exactly something I'd like!
This video makes me want to read First Love really bad.
Edit: Stray was based on the Kowloon Walled city in Hong Kong (sadly demolished in the 90s).
For The Villain Gets the Girl, I'd like to recommend The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner (specifically this starts in book #2, The Queen of Attolia). It's a fantasy series inspired by Antiquity, mainly Rome and Greece. The villain is a woman and the hero is a man, and it is so so so so so good. Ugh, they are some of my absolute favorite books ever and are so underrated and not talked about.
And Peter Pan for a book when you miss your mom. :(
I love these rec videos! ❤
And your “Machado de Assis” pronunciation was just gold!!! 👏🏼 💯
Deutsche-bahn is not always on time, especially on the weekends.
For a book that feels like an escape room. Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero.
For book in mountains with cults. The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni.
i needed this video!! thank you
you give the best book recommendations fr :)
after this I need more Taylor Swift inspired book recs from you!!! And I also need to know what your favourite album is! 👀
ooh it's gotta be folklore!! but evermore is also one of my favourite songs!
ahhhh love a good book rec!
I loved that, especially the last three book recommendations.
I want a book where the forest will become my friend.
Yes! Love these videos ❤
Would recommend The Dishwasher by Stéphane Larue for a book set in a restaurant!! so good
