Who else in Rock n Roll can hit those high notes. That guy on stage in this 2016 performance can hit those notes. Why would a famous casino like Harrah's hire an Elvis Impersonator? And give him Top Billing and charge accordingly? Go away.

People need to get real. Jay Black is one-of-a-kind, and one of the greatest of all time, but that time has passed for him. I watched a video from about a year ago, and -- with the greatest respect -- he simply cannot pull it off anymore. Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest or is, I suppose, hearing what he or she wants to hear. Two of these three formed the group with the late Jay Traynor and Kenny Vance Rosenberg in 1962 (Marty Sanders came in with Jay Black in 1963). Kenny, I believe, is not part of the group not because he thinks it's a "farce", but because he has had his own separate career for 40 years (and has been ill lately, although he is now doing some limited shows again). This Jay (Jay Reinecke) was an obsessive fan of Jay & the Americans most of his life and he earned this gig. Although not as good as Jay Black was in his prime, he does the legacy justice, in my opinion. So right Dan. Many groups tour because of legally owning the name. GrassRoots orig lead singer Rob Grill owned the name and when he passed on his estate licenses the GrassRoots name to his former back up band. This version of J&TA has 3 members that sang on all the hits. And Jay Black wasn't even the original lead singer (which some people love to forget).

Jay Black,the Voice we all knew growing up was the best male pop vocalist ever. While it's true that the lead singer of any band is hard to duplicate on the songs he/she made famous,I'd say Jay could sing other stars hits and do as well or better.....but no one can sing "Caramia,Like Walking in the Rain,Come a Little Bit Closer,Lets Lock the Door" like Jay. His dynamic range and explosiveness were unmatched. It would be like trying to replace Judith Durham in The Seekers. Too unique a voice

You get THREE original band members who can legitimately stand on stage and say "...we recorded this..." which is pretty amazing these days. The background vocals were a huge part of the JATA sound and for that reason, in MY opinion, these guys have every right to be Jay and The Americans.

Of the orig J&TA, the 1st Jay has passed on and Kenny Vance is ill and no longer performs. This group puts on a good show and acknowledges the 1st 2 Jay's. So many bands tour without their orig lead singer, Foreigner, 4 Tops, Journey, Styx, Temptations, Grassroots, Santana, the list goes on and on. I have a problem with the Grassroots because they have not 1 orig member, here there are 3.

I saw an interview with the late David Blatt aka Jay Black and he did seem to mind this imitation Jay。But Sandy Yaguda points out that David Blatt was not the original Jay either。That was Jay Traynor who quit after their first hit ＂She Cried＂。

Jay didn't let it go. gambling debts & back taxes owed to the IRS caused him to file for bankruptcy. The judge told him the trademark 'Jay & The Americans' must be sold and the money paid to the IRS. However, the same judge allowed him to continue to tour as Jay Black (real name David Blatt). Sandy, an original American from day 1 bought the name to prevent others who could use the name and put out a phony touring act. He got the 2 others Marty & Howie (not Kenny Vance though) and found the 3rd Jay who did a tribute act in the mid west. Jay Black was actually Jay #2 and wasn't in the original band.
NOPE, doesn't hold a candle to the original. All these bands trying to replace who made them famous. Without Jay Black, they would have been a Holiday Inn Bar Band.

Very true, Lily. Before buying tickets to an oldies show, it is easy to pull up a recent performance on UA-cam to get an idea of the personnel and quality. Thus version of "Jay" is an adequately decent singer but the 1965 version of this song by the best known "Jay", was epic and anything else is a disappointment.

mark sears I think Jay Black may still be performing on his own. He supposedly filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and the name Jay and the Americans was sold to one of the above original group members to settle debt. I have read accounts of how Jay Black gets mad when people go to see the act and have to be subjected to this fraud. He can sing the low parts, but falls apart on the falsetto... I can sing the low parts too...
He does a good job but the hard part in this song is the falsetto and not the stronger easy to reach notes. Blatt can still do those, although he is aging quite a bit.

how do they get away with claming fraud
I have read accounts of how Jay Black gets mad when people go to see the act and have to be subjected to this fraud. He can sing the low parts, but falls apart on the falsetto...
I can sing the low parts too...
He does a good job but the hard part in this song is the falsetto and not the stronger easy to reach notes. Blatt can still do those, although he is aging quite a bit.

The first Jay was Jay Traynor。He quit after their first hit ＂She Cried＂and David Blatt aka Jay Black replaced him。At that point all of the members of Jay and the Americans were Jews。
All due respect to the New Jay, but that's just embarrassing after hearing Jay Black from 2001 (Wings of Pegasus) and 2011 (PBS special), ages 62 and 72, respectively. However, absent the late David Blatt, it's good to have someone with the confidence to take the stage and give it his best.
