Here's the thing about _The Bear._ All the characters grow on you. Some like a fungus but they grow on you. And The Beef is based on a real place. The owner of the real place cameos in this episode as the shady meat dealer.
The real Italian beef restaurant that was the inspiration for the Original Beef of Chicagoland is called Mr. Beef, and it is in the River North neighborhood on Orleans Street, just like the fictional restaurant on the show. The pilot episode was actually filmed at Mr. Beef, but all subsequent episode scenes from the restaurant were shot on a soundstage built to look like Mr. Beef. As you go through the series, there are a lot of other restaurants that will be shown, and pretty much all of them were shot at real Chicago restaurants. There are also a number of Chicago restaurant industry people who make cameos in the series.
Have you worked in a kitchen before? I often see this cited as a stressful show but never thought it was all that bad and wondered if it was because I worked back of house at a few places for a decade or so.
@@WillTaft Well, no, I've never worked in a kitchen, but it's up to each one, it makes me nervous whenever they cut something and are close to something hot, you know that something bad is going to happen to someone, and that's not counting the screams and personal problems of each character
@@cristobaltaiba5031 for sure, they do a great job of showing the work. I was just wondering if my personal experience was changing my perspective. One of my favorite shows of the last decade.
The guy playing Fak is Matty Matheson, a chef and Internet personality that works behind the scenes for the show as well. He’s the only “chef” in the cast which is funny since he’s not a chef in the show, though other members did do prep for the show by working in restaurants to get prepared for the show.
When they asked him if he wanted to play a character on the series, his only request was that he specifically did not want to play a chef. So he's the handyman who doesn't cook or know anything about cooking.
The thing about The Bear is that it has no business being as good as it is. It's just a show about people running a restaurant and yet it's genuinely fucking amazing 10/10 on par with some of the best drama shows I've seen.
Especially in the middle of a brewing and a imminent writers’ strike, this is among the few shows inarguably championing the craft of storytelling; this wouldn’t exist without streaming, but there are only a handful of shows that make such a powerful argument for supporting better compensation for craft
I can't say which episodes cuz spoilers for people who haven't seen it but there were some very calm and dialogue heavy episodes in the second season where I was just engrossed in scenes which were just 5 minutes of characters standing and talking. Very few shows have that level of writing (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, The Expanse and Black Sails to name a few) but The Bear manages it with realistic characters, great writing and direction and amazing acting
@@c.lvr2602 I feel like The Bear is too Chicago and Restaurant industry and The Wire is to Baltimore and the interplay between dealers and police. The Bear is simply brilliant. There are some episodes in Season 2 that are just simply astounding.
Knowing now that Eric worked in restaurants, I'm hoping to hear a couple "That's so true's" and "Damn it's just like that's". Drinking outta deli cups is too real
It's crazy how shocked she still is by all of the attention she's been getting - whenever she won an award in the last month or so, she was extremely nervous and shaking like a leaf when accepting the award and giving her speeches. She got a little choked up when she did her monologue while hosting SNL a few weeks ago. It's all very endearing - she can't believe how much her life has changed because of the success of this show.
from someone born and raised in Chicago and the surrounding area this is THE most Chicago thing I've ever seen. Some places say they're set in Chicago and then don't really do anything to actually represent that but this show? I really feel like I know these people. I've never felt more at home watching a show before lol. I also love how chaotic the editing is, it really captures that frantic chaotic feel of a kitchen. I also think the writing and acting is so so amazing throughout the whole show and people you hate to begin with really grow on you (even if you still think they're jerks they have a certain charm to them)
Having worked in kitchens for most of my life and only having watched this reaction I would say so. I like what they're doing with the chaotic camera work
This show is incredible. The story and characters will all evolve and you’ll love them all. The finale made me tear up and actually shed a few tears at the very end.
This is literally my new favorite show of all time. No one was watching it when it first premiered. My family and I thought it was going to be canceled. Then social media found this gem and blew it up. I'm so grateful because season 2 was even better. Trust me this show deserves all its awards. Every single character is amazing.
I don’t know if there’s been a show I’ve gone into knowing less and loved more. The characters are all so great and feel like real people and seeing them struggle, and sometimes falter to grow just makes it such a great journey to watch not just for Carmy , but for the entire crew. Plus, it’s just an incredibly well-made and well shot show. Every actors bringing their A-game.
Watched this show not long after they finished S1. Found it while browsing, not knowing anything, never heard or read any review or news about it. Was instantly hooked and binge-watched it in 1 day. I can't believe that it wasn't really a thing when it came out, and I was so eager to let everyone know how good the show is. So happy that with S2 ppl starting to react to this and they got the recognition they deserved with this year's award sweep.
I agree but it also was kind of a big deal. Season 1 won a billion awards including 10 Emmys, is on 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a reasonably big thing on social media. Season 2 took everything up a notch though for sure
Right, but it wasn't getting all of that hype at the outset when it was first released. The first season came out in June 2022 - the Emmy sweep for the first season happened in January 2024. It won a few other awards for the first season, but the avalanche of awards it has won in the past two months have been mostly for the second season, except for the Emmys. Much like Succession, the show's popularity in the cultural zeitgeist really took off when the second season was released.
I'm so hyped for this, woke up early on a Sunday to keep refreshing the page lol. Im betting they're gonna LOVE the writing of this series. Let it rip guys!
18:32 the metaphor of the Bear is big and multifaceted for all these characters, so it’s very smart, elegant, seemingly effortless poetry when they come back it to again and again
I'm so happy you guys are reacting to this show. As someone who worked in a lot of kitchens, this show really resonated with me. I also, due to a certain Marvel Netflix show Blind Wave loved, can't wait to see their reaction to who plays Michael. Finally cant wait for epiosde 7.
This. However you feel about any of the characters when the show starts is almost certainly going to be different than how you feel about them by the time you get to the end of the second season.
There is 2 episodes back to back in season 2 which is arguably two of the best episodes of a show in recent times. People who have watched should know exactly which ones I’m talking about
SO SO EXCITED FOR THIS, just binged this whole show and have already gotten four of my friends to watch it. Such good acting, writing, cinematography, music, this show really has everything.
As someone who is worked in restaurants before I can say this is the most accurate a tv show has represented the chaos of a small but popular brick and mortar restaurant. It gives me anxiety sometimes to watch it but the show is so good you can’t look away.
I’m so glad you guys are watching this show! I was really hoping this would win the poll and it did. This show is an absolute roller coaster and you guys are definitely not ready for what’s to come. Truly one of my favourite shows of all time.
What a coincidence! I finally committed to watching this show and bingewatched both seasons in the last 2 days. It's the best TV show I've seen in a LONG time, everything from the editing and sound to the dialogue and pacing, the storylines, the characters, it's all incredibly polished and just gorgeous
Love this show. You can tell it was created by soemone who worked in the business. It really captures the feel of working back of the house. the fast pace, the chaos, the different characters. sometimes arguing and sometimes loving the people you work with. Fantastic.
8:57 - "It looks a little wet" listen it's not just wet, it's DIPPED. Any chicago Italian Beef that is worth anything will not only have a lot of juice from the beef itself, but will almost always have extra juice ladled onto the bread afterwards, aka "Dipped" you just don't know until you try. It's so good though.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach got his first call about The Bear while filming Andor in Scotland. But by the time Andor came out; people who saw The Bear were like "That's Cousin from The Bear!"

Finally you guys are reacting to this show! Clever writing and brilliant performance from cast. Can't wait for you to see Richie's growth throughout the show. Enjoy!
