Oh man, Richie's gonna grow on Aaron in the most satisfying way possible. All of the hatred he has for him right now, will pay off once he sees THAT episode
He's supposed to be dislikeable in the beginning, that's what makes season 2 richie so good (and one of the best written characters in the show). The more you hate him in the beginning the better
jeremy allen white thrives in shows where he's part of a dysfunctional family lmao as a long time lip gallagher (shameless) fan, i am so glad to see him finally get the credit he deserves in these award show sweeps he's been doing "i was a baby once too once, sydney. nobody gave a FUCK." is such a hilarious line and ebon's delivery kills me every time i watch it. i love this cast and the writing so much.
chefs have terrible diets (and sleep schedules), seeing that after cooking all day, that is the last thing they want to do when they get home, they're also too tired.
Chef culture is basically the higher up chefs almost always treat everyone under them like shit. Because when they were coming up they were treated the same way, and it just repeats. It's a very high pressure, high stress job. That is something The Bear really nails. it almost gives me PTSD remembering what it was like to be a cook professional kitchen.
yea its fucking crazy almost every line cook you know either are alcoholics or smokers because of this. Most came from different backgrounds and the CDCs are either assholes or angels.
@@schwerner343 devil’s advocate: the long tradition of that kind of regimentation was kept kitchen’s maintained and often “outcasts” disciplined into capable craftspersons; that’s not a defense, just an understanding of how it became institutionalized
I'm not certain, but when Joel McHale says, "You should be dead," I always took that as Carmy saying that to himself. I dont think his boss actually said that to him, although it's not outta the realm of possibility. I've definitely heard of people having that said to them in the environment.
I think he was saying most of it, but at the end when it is focused on Carmy's eyes then it may have crossed into his own head. Taking a negative chef and doubling it in his own head.
The second I saw the reveal on the first watch my mind immediately went to wanting to see Blind Wave react to it, and that was before they even announced their reaction to this show.
This and “Dogs” are the episodes I maybe watched the most in season 1 It’s clear everyone’s hurting a lot, and that long camera linger on just Carmy scrubbing says so much about the show Also great guest role for Joel McHale
Al-Anon. They have groups for the loved ones of people who struggle with alcoholism. I haven't been to one but I have experience with a similar group. It was for young adults who had a loved one with mental health and/or addiction problems. Finding people who understand the kind of experiences we may not be able to put into words (yet) or are too scared to voice can be incredibly healing. Highly recommend support groups!! 💛 Anyway, great reaction! Looking forward to seeing more of these
So i actually did a thesis based on this show about something i like to call ''controled chaos'' and how this show inverts the role of how we see Chaos. As a viewer you might think that the fast editing, the different images interwining, the fast paced stuff is actually a lot of chaos, mess and disorder cause it feels like that, but it's actually the opposite. When they are cooking, they are in control, they control the stuff that is happening, the ingredients, the fire, the heat of the kitchen, but when the show slows down and there's a lot of conversation and steady camera, that's when the characters are not in control and show who they really are cause we focus on them. i.e. Richie and the phone call, Richie cannot control the situation, he's on the phone he cannot do anything, but we never cut to his wife or children, we are focusing on him, same with Ayo's character in the store when Richie is complaining about Camry, The camera doesnt leave her and she's tries to controle Richie but cannot do anything cause richie is so focused complaining and Richie is going from side to side. These situations are the tru uncontrolled chaos. Not the kitchen.
Mm. interesting,. My understanding was that Keller didn't have that reputation at all. Demanding, serious, even unfeeling at times perhaps, but never agressive or demeaning.
the mchale character is not being an asshole for any other reason than because he's the top dog I'm afraid. Anyone who's worked in a kitchen knows that asshole honestly. Gordon Ramsay is not the exception, he's the rule and with him you at least know he means well mostly. I quickly quit the restaurant business but the head chef in one of the kitchens I worked at was also the owner of the restaurant and he would sit me down for talks where he would tell me that the only reason they kept me around is because they liked me but that I sucked and was terrible and horrible at my job etc etc. It made me constantly wish that he'd just fire me instead. But I couldn't afford to quit myself. He'd also throw spoons or pots or whatever through the kitchen. It was only a small kitchen so it would always hit something important and it would be our fault for "making" him do that. Also, when he thought I wasn't loading the dishwasher fast enough, he'd push me aside and rip whatever I was holding out of my hands to ram 'm in there without rinsing. I'd often have to redo dishes after because they hadn't become clean enough. I've never met anyone who worked in restauranting who hadn't a crazy chef they worked under.
Thank you Eric for that analysis of Richie. To be honest I don’t get how people dislike Richie. Yeah he can be a dick, but it’s apparent from even the first few episodes he’s got a good heart and is just a little screwed up by the whole situation.
That is not how negative reinforcement works, that is just bullying and abuse. The physical isolation of chefs working in Michelin-starred kitchens can lead to violent misbehaviour and a feeling that “the rules don’t apply”.
Has anyone seen the movie "andhadun"? i think a reaction of that movie would be very cool. not to give any spoilers but i think i wanna see Eric's reaction to that movie
Eric, I love how you SEE Richie and you saw him immediately. Every behavior comes from somewhere - and this show is a lot about providing grace for people who might not be acting in the best way. We're all human. We're not always our best selves. and we can only hope that the people around us will give us grace - or at least space to course correct. Like, don't write anyone off as a lost cause. This show is really ABOUT character development. Really enjoying the discussions!
idk, I find Richie hilarious Also, I know some dudes like Richie, they are just bros, kind of on edge confrontational, but also funny, just dude/bro, good people overall
Actually she is already in Season one on the Phone with Richie. I thought I recognized her Voice but thought „Nahhh no way“ I was hella suprised during S2

What happened to their lastest podcast did they not do it I saw it scheduled but I don't think I saw it premier
I'd love to see Calvin and Aaron react to Office Space.
I’m glad Eric seems to understand Richie already. I’ve seen plenty of folks who don’t pick up on his deeper character
AYO FUCKING COUSIN FUCK YOU FUCK. He said with deep pure sincerity.
Here’s the Thing about Richie…
Oh man, Richie's gonna grow on Aaron in the most satisfying way possible. All of the hatred he has for him right now, will pay off once he sees THAT episode
I never hated him. I actually liked his character from the get-go. Everyone else to me was enh.

Including movies you can further throw in The Iron Claw
Yesss I love the bear and I love watching the reactions even more ❤
Richie has one of the most compelling arcs in the season. Love that he isn't being just viewed as one-note here.
chefs have terrible diets (and sleep schedules), seeing that after cooking all day, that is the last thing they want to do when they get home, they're also too tired.
Chips and ramen for me lol

Were u called short too?
That is exactly how my reaction was worded in my head. Except I’ve worked hard to break the cycle when it was my turn
It's a ridiculous culture that needs to be reassessed. We have to be better than the people before us

Can't wait for them to meet Mikey.
Oh their reaction to the actor is going to be priceless
and Lee
YEP
@@crayte oh yeah next season is a powder keg, though I’d argue Oliver Platt is a fantastic get from this early on
The second I saw the reveal on the first watch my mind immediately went to wanting to see Blind Wave react to it, and that was before they even announced their reaction to this show.
I love how much Aaron doesn't like Richie. It's gonna make the turn, specifically after one episode in season 2, so much better to watch.
This and “Dogs” are the episodes I maybe watched the most in season 1
It’s clear everyone’s hurting a lot, and that long camera linger on just Carmy scrubbing says so much about the show
Also great guest role for Joel McHale
i really can’t wait to see Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. he’s gonna be so good
Same man
I’m just glad I listened all the way to the end, that was hilarious.

She said she was making Mom's chicken ... Lemon Chicken Piccada is what he wrote down
25:42-26:03
Loved the reaction, laughed out loud but this moment at the end from Eric took me out.
Made me do a spit take with my water 😂😂
McHale’s character is supposed to be a version of Thomas Keller, who actually did talk to his employees like that. (French Laundry)
Mm. interesting,. My understanding was that Keller didn't have that reputation at all. Demanding, serious, even unfeeling at times perhaps, but never agressive or demeaning.
I thought he was like Gordon Ramsay haha
Love the show so far has Eric learning new words.
LMAO! Yes, comparing Pete to Jerry is SO on point!
I NEVER really hated Richie, then I started watching reactions for this show and got so confused people didn't like him
It warms my heart to see Sargent Trudy and Dr. Charles on The Bear but what to expect their all in Chicago
ERIC'S 'OH FACE'💀😭 25:48
Calvin not having seen Office Space needs rectifying...!
Such a great show, glad you're watching it.
Richie is my favorite he’s the best 😂😂😂
Can't wait for Forks, man.
Oliver Platt is a legend. You should watch him in Fargo 🙂
Soon done with season 1 already 🙌🏻
Thanks to Eric, Calvin and Aaron! 🍽
I promise you're gonna love Richie 🤞🏾
I love how much Eric likes Richie.
This is such a great show. Happy you're watching it.
Your speculations on what's in Mikey's letter is gold! Can't wait for when you find out what's actually in it!
we ALL know richie. every single retail worker in the fuckin universe knows richie.
a week feels so very long waiting for these 🥹 love yall!
The best piece of business advice is in this episode. “You can’t start from fucked!”
3:57 I’m so happy Eric made this DBZA reference.🤣🤣
Love the Super Kami Guru reference from Eric
And here we go, Aaron don't like Richie now but we'll see later
We knew it would happen😂
I can’t believe I didn’t realize that was Joel McHale until they pointed it out.
Pt 2 of I love this freaking show
Once they get to that certain episode Ritchie will be their favourite character
This show gets significantly better in the second season.
cant wait for them to meet carmys whole family..
So Joel McHale cameoed on this episode because his Community costar Gillian Jacobs is dating the show runner and put in a good word.
After the feast of seven fishes I realized how Carm could take the abuse at Noma. But that's a long time from now.
Cant wait for cousins’s episode
Nice DBZA Super Kame Guru reference Eric
i love richie!!!!
Oh I can not wait for them to see Richie in season 2😂
That’s how most of us in the restaurant world eat at home
richie will grow on you guys i promise
"He just eats junk at home?" As a cook myself yes. yes we do
Its not $80 a plate at these fancy restaurants. More like $300.
hell yea
Considering he was the only one who stayed late to clean I think we can cut Carmy some slack for the cigarettes.
What happened to their lastest podcast did they not do it I saw it scheduled but I don't think I saw it premier

Moral of the story: Carmy needs to leave his Cigars somewhere else
Has anyone seen the movie "andhadun"? i think a reaction of that movie would be very cool.
not to give any spoilers but i think i wanna see Eric's reaction to that movie
Eric's O face is...
Please react to Office Space. For the non-culinary professionals
Can't wait to see them watch "Spoons" in S2!!!
It’s hard to watch this show coming from a background in kitchen staff with the atmosphere just like this place lol ptsd type shi
Eric is gonna feel so good when “Forks” happens 🥹

Have I just been clueless or when did Calvin's beard get so long?
idk, I find Richie hilarious
Also, I know some dudes like Richie, they are just bros, kind of on edge confrontational, but also funny, just dude/bro, good people overall
i hope ypu guys have subtitles on you miss so many dialogues
Chicago inspections are all pass/fail. Letter grades don’t exist (NY thing). Otherwise, great episode!
👍🏾
Damn. The amount of time spent staring at the notebook vs watching the show and appreciating the acting
Whats happened with no Halo season 2 reaction
Do Catholics keep their wedding rings after Divorce?
i like how aaron's first thought is that the video game tournament was even slightly relevant, and that the results are important.
You guys should just let it rip..
I didn't like Richie and after season 2 I still don't like him. For season 3 i really hope they give more screentime to other characters.
Don't worry Britta shows up in season 2. Broke my brain lol
Actually she is already in Season one on the Phone with Richie. I thought I recognized her Voice but thought „Nahhh no way“ I was hella suprised during S2
She’s also in a relationship with the creator of the Bear, Christopher Storer. Forgot if the video mentioned that already.
fuck it I'm just gonna say it, I only really like Eric here
There would be another Community cast in this show except Joel 🫢
here we goooo
