Hey guys thanks for watching my videos please share and subscribe to my channel Follow me on instagram @birdnerd4 Check out my website at www.littlebirdnerd.com
Thank you for this video and the last video ,both excellent. I am just starting out with Gouldiand finches and I appreciate you passing on your knowledge .
The key with breeding finches in mixed aviaries are 1. Space- having a large aviary helps tremendously 2. Lots of cover. Fake plants or real plants (whatever your preference) helps tremendously with shielding the nest from other birds and giving the parents that feeling of security.
I have a pair of Lady Gouldians that are in a mixed Aviary with 6 Zebra's, 2 Society and 2 Cuban's, I purchased these all at the same time in July 2019, we started to introduce some nest boxes in late september and very soon we had 14 babies Zebras very easy to breed no problems at all, all the other finches didnt even seem interested in building nests, so we removed all the nest boxes around late November. This year we put the nest boxes in around early August, we were quite surprised that the Gouldians chose a box and built a nest and they guarded from the zebras very well, we then had four eggs that all hatched but two got tossed out, the other two grew without any problems and they left the nest yesterday were flying around and looked great and very healthy, when I went to check them this morning one of the chicks was sitting still on the bottom of the cage I couldnt see anything physically wrong and then it died about an hour later, not sure what happened am thinking it might have crashed in to the side of the aviary during the night so was quite a sad day very disappointed after the excitement of seeing them. We also had a lot of zebra chicks tossed out this year but I think we put the nest boxes in to early as it was still quite cold towards the end of Winter. I think our society finches are both male so no luck breeding them, The Cuban pair also built a nest for the first time but as yet no eggs. sorry this post is longer than i expected it to be. I am in Brisbane Australia
Hey Chris..interesting tip i found out by old breeder, add raw fine mince in the birds soft food,iv been using it for 2months now n seeing awesoe results👍
Thanks for the great video. I am learning a lot from your channel. Can you please tell me how do you prepare your egg food and do you add any supplements/vitamins (i.e. Prime) to your water/foods?
Hi .I Am Rostami 🇮🇷, please tell me a about proper temperature and moisture for lady gouldian fich And cocktail, how long does it takes to hatch cocktails chicks?
Always happy with a new Gouldian video here.. I had an identical orange head pairing to you who have successfully given me 13 chicks from 3 clutches this year, a couple of whom are molting with white breasts so I can't wait to see them fully coloured. Looks like you have good times ahead and thanks for the content as always Chris, from across the pond 👍🇬🇧
Thanks for your great video. There's so much to learn about their colour combinations. I've now learnt that their are female red heads, and male and female black heads. When are the breeding months in the Northern hemisphere? From Spring thru autumn?
Just moved to Salt Lake City Utah a few years ago and found you here and I am looking for a few Gouldian Finches. If you see this could you hit me back please. Thank you sir.
Keeping finches in an aviary is humane, but in small cages is inhumane. That is the only important difference, everything else is exploitation of animals for profit or some sick reasons.
The wild types are cool. Thanks for showing the pink chest mutation. I didnt know they had different shades of pink.

Can you do another vid on zibra finchs breeding like a part two?
Hi I’m looking to buy a female red face Gouldin. Do you have any that you may be interested in selling?
Please put some toys in their cages at least a swing
Mate the “ou” in Gouldian is pronounced with a oo (like “loop”) not “o” as on “got”.
nice video 👍👍👍
Hi can you tell me what's the cloth over the nest box for and must you have them in a heated aviary or not to breed
I used the cloth to give the birds a little more privacy. I have since upgraded my nests and don’t use the cloths anymore.
