Hey Mate , From Newcastle NSW , I just purchased my 2023 Y62 , I absolutely love it but it needs to come forward in present time with some mods , I will be looking to order the Head unit along with the Dash and probably a Torquit exhaust system to make it sound like a V8 , tell me one thing please , since you have installed the Header unit and Dash , has there been issues or anything your not happy with , basically does it all integrate with the factory settings ? , and also did you DIY ,or did you have someone install them units for you ?
Hi Grant. I installed both myself - there are good installation videos on youtube if you are confident - pay someone to do it if you aren't! No issues with the dash, other than wishing it could be updated with more features (e.g. replace the centre animation with customizable information displays), getting them to calibrate it to ACTUAL fuel tank capacity and range (Nissan Y62 in Australia fuel gauge and range display is incorrect from stock - fill up when range reports 100km and it will still have 30+ litres left in the tank). The dash is a big improvement compared to stock. It has a compass function but it doesnt work very well, otherwise everything else is good and the offroad display screens are super-cool and practical. The centre android display is a massive upgrade, but it is NOT OEM and they can be glitchy occasionally and you have to be careful to not change settings you don't know about because it can stuff it up. Everything could be improved of course. I'm super happy with mine - just worked out i can even switch the car off and get the radio to stay on without having to restart it (previously when car is running you can't switch it off to accessories to keep the radio working (couldnt with stock and couldnt with my previous 12" vertical screen), but now i just worked out i can!!!). As i've said elsewhere - find someone local who has one and have a play. Yes - if you like a v8, you need to upgrade the exhaust.
@@timleed1407 good onya mate , appreciate your reply and feedback , yep looking forward to having these Mods done , also decided against the Torqit cat back , went with the OZ Made Redback medium cat back exhaust , gets installed in two days , so the first of the Mods have started , love these cars
Hi Thanks for the video, Just about to pull the trigger with the purchase, How are you finding the head unit any glitches ? Would you still recommend the upgrade if not whys that thanks mate looking forward to your reply ! Also was it easy to install ?
It has the odd glitch, but much more stable compared to the "vertical" screen i had previously, and compared to stock with all the extra features its so much better its not funny. I would still recommend if you aren't happy with the stock system. There are a few installation videos out there, if you follow them (no instructions with unit) and have time and tools you will work it out.
Thanks! Its up to you whether you save and buy direct (and wear more risk) vs using a local reseller and get local support. Communication can be hit and miss. I am still waiting on a refund for my original unit that i had to send back because the GPS wasn't working properly, so at this point i would say that i would have been financially better off going via a reseller.
I want going to do a review of the dash - its literally only a few different screens and you only ever use two of them (normal, or the offroad one). The same supplier sells the dash, or you can buy locally (in Australia). There is a new version now that (i believe) allows you to set the 140 litre fuel capacity correctly so you get real range to empty (and a whole bunch of other features). The dash is worth it, although hard to read in direct sunlight.
Couple if the sellers I spoke to have said the camera dramas and other issues with the one direct from China without local software updates. Are you having regular issues etc at all?
The "vertical" unit i had 1st was a great step up from stock, but fairly buggy - as in it would freeze occasionally, close apps unexpectedly and etc. Had the Sergei software updates and you could live with it. The Unit i cover in this video was fine, except the GPS receiver didn't work. I ended up having to purchase a new unit to replace it and was unable to get a refund under warranty from the supplier which is frustrating and not fair - now they won't even respond to messages. In that respect, i would have been better off buying it from a local reseller and getting local support. The new unit has been almost 100% perfect and i'm quite happy with it.
@timleed1407 cheers, yeah from my research the new zinnovations screens have nailed it, mostly due to the software finally being solved. 4x4DNA are starting to install them. The more I think about going the cheap option, the more I think it'll be a false economy...
Yes, TPMS has a display screen, there is also a button to turn on the cameras and choose whichever one(s) you want - but it still turns off once you get over 10km/hr just like stock. The cameras look better on the larger screen and the supplier can sell you a kit to replace the cameras with HD versions so you get better resolution, but i have not bothered with this.
@@timleed1407 Thanks mate for the detailed reply. Additional questions; is there a setting to change temperature unit from °C to °F? How about controls for the heated and ventilated seats?
Hi Tim. Thanks for the video. I have done the same screen from the same supplier, in fact got a good deal buying a digital cluster along with it. I installed everything myself. I have an issue though.. I cant get the emergency blinkers to work. Any ideas?
Good evening. I'm seeing you just ordered the radio and cluster unit. Who did you speak with. I'm interested in getting the package if I can get a deal.
How is the unit going now? Just thought I'd message to see if there was any new updates. Does it have controls for the seat heating/cooling? I saw in a different video the EC offroad one they have buttons for the seats but the buttons don't actually do anything.
On my unit the seat heating/cooling is controlled by the stock OEM controls which are below the unit. Updates are periodically available on the unit, but i haven't noticed any extra features being added. On my original unit the GPS wasnt working properly and i ended up getting another one. It generally works really well, only occasional glitches, but nothing like the "vertical tesla screen" i had in it before. Compared to stock its not as reliable, but its got a million more features.
@@timleed1407Hey Tim I really appreciate the reply. I've just been reading on the upgrade/change and I come across one problem or another but haven't had any other responses from other places I've commented to see how they are doing with the upgrade now and what the issues were that they were having. I'll most likely be doing this but just wanted to get as much info as possible.
Hey mate, great video. I'm wanting to hear where you're at with it more recently. There's a few on the market now and updating them can be a bit of a mission. Keen to hear your more recent thoughts.
The screen comes with the connections to run the rear screens, but i've never used them and they still have the protective plastic on them. TBH - its silly that car manufacturers put them in - tablets are so cheap and instead they add $1000's in cost to hard-mount screens into headrests. I'm sure there are other videos that show how to connect and use them.
Thanks for the vid. Do all of the standard features work with it? 360 camera for example. Also do you have a link for where you purchased the digital dash. Cheers
Everything works as far as i can tell, including control of rear climate. Cameras look better compared to stock, but they are low res cameras. Store link in the video description.
I just purchased this same one for my series 1 Y62. Unfortunately when I plug everything in, it seems like the entire unit is not recieving power. re-plug stock in and it works. Did you need to program any switches in the onboard computer? or was it actually plug and play?
Try the other wiring loom that came with your unit. If that doesn't work, then you will need to check which wires from the car supply power (memory and acc on) and check the corresponding plugs on the unit. I think i have read of the odd person having this problem. Mine was plug and play.
Ok thanks - also should all the wires in the looms match up ( equal wires on both sides of the plug) - because the android side plug has less wires than the OEM plug @@timleed1407
In my patrol, I listen to audio from my cell phone - connecting through blue tooth. I get into my car and the bluetooth connects fairly quickly. Does bluetooth connect quickly with this android radio? Overall, is it worth replacing the original center console that looks better quality and sturdy with this Chinese cheap looking thing? I am torn about it. I wasted too much on such things before and I am tempted to bite the dust again 😢
I think audio quality is better via one of these units. On a standard head unit you have bass and treble only. Its not an oem quality unit, but for the price i think its good value. Had 2.5 years out of the 12" vertical screen and still going strong, but pulled it out to try the new unit. Bluetooth connects quickly. But hey - you need to decide for yourself!
