This video is so good!! I’ve been struggling to understand my flash and this helped a lot :) your videos are all so smooth to watch, I could binge watch them the entire day haha thanks a lot Matthew for sharing your knowledge with us!
Good advice but thank you ! You are one of the only UA-camrs who actually spoke about that your advice is not going to work with every type of photography and style! So many UA-camrs act like “this will work in all photographic situations”!
Wow! I have struggled to understand flash for so long! I thank you for cutting it down to basic understanding, because this stuff is often assumed. People just tell you all the technical bits as you mentioned. So thank you for making this video. Thank you!
God bless you sir! Just starting off with photography, rented my first off camera flash yesterday for a gig I have tonight and had no idea whatsoever how it works but this right here is GOLD! Thank you.🙏🏾
Hi Matthew. Just wanted to say I recently found your channel and it has been very helpful. I’ve been doing mostly landscape and cityscape photography for about 10 years now. I recently got laid off from a corporate type job and I’ve decided I want to try to make photography work for me full time. From doing cityscapes I’ve found that I really enjoy architecture. More so than I realized. I would love to break into the field of architectural photography. I had my first paying job 2 weeks ago just from sending emails out. I know I have a lot to learn but am looking forward to the journey. Your channel has been a wonderful resource. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for all your videos. I think I’ve watched them all now. I shoot RE flambient and having seen your techniques, I’m doing my first architecture one for a designer next week. Thanks for giving me the motivation to step out of my comfort zone! Really excited about it 😊
Thank you for this. Adding off-camera flash to my interior photography has been in my 'to do list' for a long time, but I have no knowledge about finding the proper transmitter and receiver for my Nikkor SB-800 flashlight. Once I tried to buy it, but with the seller's help we couldnt establish a proper connection. (I'm using Nikon Z6)
In the same boat. I have a AD200 coming, but I do not understand how I trigger the flash and camera while I am 30' away lighting a couch or a vase or a muddy corner. Thanks Matthew, your explanation of how the flash duration fits into the camera exposure was excellent.
Matthew nice video just one correction. You don’t NEED a trigger to fire a flash. The pop up flash can fire an off camera flash optically, I do it alot when practicing OFC.
What time of the day was the portrait at 9:23 taken? Was the subject in the shadows, and how did you set up the off-camera flash? I would love to create this type of portraits, with a studio look in an outdoors environment. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey Matthew - your videos are top-notch! Have been transitioning from many years of RE to more Arch - you have really recommended the Godox AD 400 and 600. Of the two, do you think the 400 is powerful enough for most uses? I have the Canon Speedlights but love your examples using the Godox lights. thank you!! If you have an affiliate link to it let me know - happy to use!
Thanks a lot for your information as always! Could I ask, as I have been shooting with only one continuous light, I am deciding to get my first flash for portrait, product and interior photography. I am currently thinking AD200 Pro or should I go for the AD400 Pro? Thanks in advance Matthew.
Hahaha I like natural light because I don’t know how to use flash it seems so difficult to learn 😂😅 I was just using straight flash but the photos don’t look flattering… that’s why I’m learning off camera flash
Wait I'm confused. With the flash on the shutter speed controls how much of the ambient light is let in, right? (The aperture also controls how much ambient is let in too of course but for argument sake its fixed at f/14 like u had in the video) So the only way to make the flash brighter is to increase the ISO? And the not the shutter speed?
Correct. If you’re going to leave the aperture at f/14…shutter speed won’t affect the amount of flash light that hits the sensor. Now if you start to shoot faster than 1/200 or 1/250, you may run into high speed sync issues, but that’s a while other topic
Is it possible to change the power setting on the flash unit itself without touching the transmitter when it is connected onto the camera and it will update the settings on the transmitter ? Im asking this because often in interiors photography, we would take multiple exposures (with flashes) but we don't want to touch the camera to avoid moving the camera position. Thank you for your help.
@@MatthewAPhoto thank you for the quick response. I like changing the power settings on the flash unit as well but I find that it always revert back to what the setting is on the transmitter and I find that very annoying. I have the same X1T transmitter. Do you use a certain setting ?
I just shoot natural light because I have no idea how to use the flash. 😅 I’m here to learn. Just got a Ad300 ❤

The most comprehensive video explaining off-camera flash. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! An excellent primer to what is to most an intimidating subject. You made it simple to understand. Can’t wait to learn more.

That was the best way to explain that! I could never understand it properly before. thanks
Concise and Simple! Love it.

I’m originally from Oak Grove, Mo. I’ll be watching 👍
Oof, unlocked my childhood with that Iron Giant! Very well put together Matt!
Soo-per-man. Thanks Jared 😉👍
You nailed it, very well taught.
Definitely excelled at explaining the advantages of OCF 😎
This video is pure value! I do mainly video but this makes me feel like it’s Time! Great instruction! #newsub

Perfect intro for the topic. I learnt a lot! Thank you
what tripod did you buy for your tube light please I really need to know 😞
Fantastic explanation. Exactly what I was looking for.
Learned a lot from you man! keep it up with the good work!
Thank you for this! Your explanation makes it much easier to understand. 👍👍
Hi, is it possible to connect Godox TT685 and TT520 together so that they can flash at the same time.
This is a great video!
Matthew, could you please do a video about off camera flash but this time advanced option :) ? im looking forward.
This was very helpful! Thank you
Yes to "artistic preference and choice"... I've observed that. I just need to know how to use the thing lol.
What time of the day was the portrait at 9:23 taken?
Was the subject in the shadows, and how did you set up the off-camera flash?
I would love to create this type of portraits, with a studio look in an outdoors environment.
Any help would be appreciated.
What remote control should I buy if I have godox v1s flash? Thankyou in advance !
Great video! What's your go-to modifier for your RE/architecture shoots these days?
The one I use the most is my 3ft octobox. I go over it in some detail in my “photo equipment” video
Thank you for your Videos. I need help. May i know how can i not appear in the photo i took? I think my setting is wrong.
Thank you brother, you explain well.
Thank you so much for such informative video!!

I would go with the AD400 pro
@@MatthewAPhoto ad400 is too big for start. Ad200 more portable I think )
@@MatthewAPhoto thanks a lot for you help and hard work! Please do not stop making them! And make a Membership so we can pay and learn more!
would love a more in-depth part 2 where you use off camera flash on location.
Great video, very helpful! What transmitter and flash did you use in this video, please? :)
The transmitter is Godox X1t, the strobe is Godox ad 600 pro, Godox tt600 speedlight the other light is profoto
Thanks!!
Really do u know what exactly ur teaching???love❤
Very helpful !

I rarely change the flash power setting on the transmitter. Most of the time I change it on the flash unit directly.

hi whats the best flash and trigger system for my olympus em5 mii
There is no "best", it always depends on what you are looking for, what kind of photos you want to shoot etc...
No idea. I don’t shoot with Olympus 🤷♂️
Any chance I can come with you one day and learn from you?
That was great!!!! Thanks a lot!!
Very informative, thank you!
