    Eleiko is a Swedish company. Great stuff!

    Nat and Ian, if you look on the sleeve of the old eleiko bar it will have a 4 digit code, the one i train with has 8804 meaning it was made in 19(88) April (04) yours will have a similar 4 digit number so you can tell when it was made

    Just a thought, why didn't you blind the bars and ask Ian to tell his thoughts without knowing the mfg.? :) That could potentially produce surprising results, which could go both ways. I wouldn't be surprised if Eleiko would get some benefit of doubt for the solid reputation.

    For those wondering, I just received the Rogue Olympic WL bar with American steel (the one you can order on the Rogue website right now) and it spins just as well, if not better, as the Rogue EU and Eleiko bar in this video doing the same test.

    • @360Imports
      @360Imports 9 років тому

      You're lucky. I got mine in April and it seems like the earlier ones don't spin well at all. Rogue wants me to send mine in for them to tear down before issuing a replacement.

    I just threw a couple plates on my cheap Chinese, Allen bolt bar that has been maintained, and lubricated. I did the same foot spin, and had at least the same as the eleiko bar. I'm not going to claim that it will hold up to heavy lifting, or full time gym use but I think it shows that the "spin test" is pointless.

    I just got a Rogue WL bar with American steel, it's speeding a lot better than what it did in the review, guessing they did change the construction

    Great video. I've been keeping my eyes open for a higher performance bar in the future and it's nice to get an honest opinion on some of the options. This is very helpful to see they in action.

    I just got my bar and did both spin test and defenatly rogue worked on fixing the issue both spins were amazing
    I'm happy that they fixed the issue was little concern after I order my bar and seen this review but now that I have it and it's tested feel like I invested right

    Rough will never be Eleiko a contender. I like how you try your best to bring Rough to Eleiko level. Next time drop them with a 1000 pound s and see what happens with USA steel?

    Eleikos are generaly the highest quality bars. But there is not a noticeable difference between them

    • @Tomleey
      @Tomleey 6 років тому

      Rich Piana's Oil Distribution Manager agreed! But if you are top level athlete, then you may notice a bit difference. But for average trainers, they are same same I would say.

    You understand that there are a huge variety of bearings and the spin is directly related to the bearing precision and quality and lubrication rather than the steel used for the bar.

    • @hookgrip
      @hookgrip  4 роки тому

      Yes I understand that.

    Current price difference between Eleiko performanceweightlifting bar and Rogue Euro bar is 729 versus 695. So cost is insignificant.

    I've noticed that Rogue bars that don't spin as well, give me more wrist pain than bars that have good bearings and spin.

    I found the 25 kg plates there to be interesting. It would seem that York & Mav-Rik are made by the same manufacturer. Both Bobs (Hise & Hoffman) are rolling over in their graves!

  • @Meegalito

    Hookgrip. Curious as to the condition of the Eleiko training bar when you first received it as far as the smoothness and speed of the spin. I just received my bar and it barely spins at all. No other complaints but that. I've used a DHS that had a lot of spin and is at least 5 years old and still spins really well. I called Eleiko and the lady with their customer care said they started greasing the bars more heavily so they last longer and that it takes a few weeks to "break it in". Your thoughts and experiences with this matter?

  • @360Imports
    @360Imports 9 років тому

    Thanks for the vid. I bought my rogue wl bar in April and it has never spun smooth. Feels only slightly better than my og Rogue bar. Just contacted rogue about this issue. Thanks again!

    • @360Imports
      @360Imports 9 років тому

      Update. Now rogue wants me to send the bar back to them. Sent them this video and then my own which shows my bar spinning probably worse than the one here. Instead of issuing a replacement, they now Want the original back to tear down and inspect first.

    • @360Imports
      @360Imports 9 років тому

      ***** that would be nice. It seems that the preload on the bearings is too tight which is causing drag. Probably shave a thousandth or less off and be good. I've been without a bar for almost two weeks now. hope to hear good news soon.

    • @360Imports

      Evs-One so I finally got my bar back from rogue. They straightened it and rebuilt the sleeves(didn't go into detail about what or why was replaced). Anyways, spin is incredible now, just like the euro bar. Turn around time was four weeks, which seemed long. initial communication with them was great, and then it was me emailing every two days asking for ship dates and tracking numbers, even though I was told otherwise. All in all just glad to have my bar back.

    I have a home gym with a pendlay set and eleiko/werksan sets at my club gym and the only thing I have to say that I can see is that the bar from pendlay eats my hands less.

  • @ericdiep9093
    @ericdiep9093 8 років тому

    Since the Eleiko Sport is on sale right now for $599, would you recommend that over the Euro? They're both pretty similar except it seems that the Sport has a little more aggressive knurling and has 1 less pair of needle bearings which I don't think will matter all that much in the long run. So for about $100 cheaper ($599 Sport vs $695 Euro) and the long standing history of quality with Eleiko, I'm leaning towards the Sport. What are your thoughts?

    What kind of screws are used on that platform to keep the rubber attached? I have glued mine and I have found the glue needs to be replaced every few weeks.

    I see the Rogue euro bar is $695 now. Has it gone up significantly since this review? You mentioned that the DHS bars have too soft of a knurl on them, but how would you say they stack up against the euro bar? Thanks in advance.

    The difference between the two rogue bars may be due to less quality control.

      I suspect that these are Rogue's 200,000+K psi bars (rumor has it that they will be in the 220k range). These Rogue bars are also the ones that Rogue is likely to submit to the IWF for certification.

      Uesaka. Look like the same model that was used at the Sydney Olympics.

    • @AfferbeckBeats
      @AfferbeckBeats 9 років тому

      Struan Potter Sydney actually used the squarer-edged plates with large indented lettering, the same as used in Atlanta 1996. This rounded-edged model of plates were used in Athens 2004 and up to Goyang 2009 worlds is the last place I think I've seen them. I read a while back on a Uesaka retailer's facebook page that they were going to start making them again, but I haven't heard anything about it since. Maybe they can make them by special order or something.
