Rogue Fitness is known to have, for most people, the best power bar in the world. The Rogue Ohio Power Bar. But, there are some crazy lifters who feel like the knurl could be even, wait for it, SHARPER.
That's where the Rogue AGGRO Bar comes in. It is, according to them, the sharpest they could make a bar.
So, today, I unbox it and give you my first impressions along with some deadlift action to see just how sharp it is.
Pray for my hands.

Couldn’t imagine dragging that bar across my shins pulling sumo, it’d be like a cheese grater.

That bar is great for people who have some serious callousness built up on their hands & want the bar that will give them maximum grip. Definitely not for the average lifter but great for the dedicated powerlifters.
Imagine pulling sumo with that 💀
Nah, dude. A bar this sharp would peel off years worth of callouses in seconds
@@Zakisbackontrack who cares about callouses
@@jamiekelly8354 people who want maximum grip on the bar
i know powerlifters are known for pain and suffering but there are borders to that and they start at the point where it becomes almost impossible to hold on a barbell without ripping their hands open so they loose grip. After all we still prefer weight over pain
Great, now there is going to be a “sharp off” between these barbell companies.
I can see that being a real possibility. I personally do not need a bar that sharp.- Mike, GGR Community Manger
It would be a great new event for CrossFit Games.

I definitely want to feel what this feels like and you, being the All Mighty Coop, should pitch to Rogue a knurling sample pack. Id buy a 3x agro knurled bottle opener and/or can opener for sure. Maybe even a just a 4” chunk of barbell from a messed up bar…but I’d prefer some use out of it, so definitely a bottle opener or can opener.
I’d like to add a agro potato peeler to the list of potential agro knurled sampling products.
A Knurl sampler would be such a fantastic idea

2:05, fair point, but no one really buys a new barbell every six months. Unless youre Coop, in which case, rogue better give Coop some special packaging
I agree. I just got a curl bar and men’s pink once a year bar from rogue today; and fuck opening bars. Those nails are so god damn hard to open. It says you can peel tube, but it doesn’t peel. Barbell opening from Rogue is terrible.
@@brandonhoover2120 i had to use a screwdriver and bend the nails. Ive had two bars took a hour in total
@@KronicNitron same as I did. I was a little faster because I’ve done like 7 rogue bars by now. But it sucks opening rogue barbells.
No one really buys a new phone every six months either.
For 525$ in a barbell??? It should be the least they could do
We just got these at our high school. My weight lifting coach calls us pussies when we complain about them when we deadlift 350-400lbs+
Sorry Coop, but that didn't tell us much. All we got was you saying "it's sharp" but without being able to touch it, we've no frame of reference. It would have been good to have macro shots of the knurling on both that bar vs some other bars of varying knurl depths (e.g. mild vs aggressive vs AGGRO), just so we can visualise the difference and get an idea of how it compares to other bars. That way, even though we can't touch the bar ourselves, we can imagine the difference. Some other visual representation may have been useful too. You talk about the abrasiveness on the cardboard, so why not rub some cardboard on different bar knurling to show how much it eats away at it?
You go on reddit often?
Seems like Coops reviews are getting more half assed in my opinion. Just seems like he doesn't go super in depth anymore. I get more detailed information from other channels sometimes. Coop is Sylvester Stallone from Rocky 3 right now. He thinks he's the shit.

I actually sent Rogue a suggestion about that endcap in their suggestion box.
They really need to change that to complete the theme of this bar, it’s lame how they just gave it a default endcap
Begun, the barbell wars have! I love how there are so many amazing barbell options to choose from. Bought a Rep Deep Knurl at the beginning of the pandemic, and love it, but now I have to find room on my barbell rack for this baby.

I have the same bar, and it took me a couple of weeks to determine to keep it, because it was seriously annoying to the point of painful to use. Almost 2 years later, I don't even notice it. In fact, it taught me the importance of both gripping the bar as hard as you can, and not letting the bar shift even a millimeter on your back during squats, otherwise you're in a for a bloody surprise.
I used a cordless circular saw to get my rogue barbell out of the packaging. A bit unnerving, but it worked like a charm
In terms of packaging, I bought a Voodoo bar from X-Mark last year when I started my home gym... their tube uses screws to seal the ends instead of staples, and it was a breeze to open. Sure, it's not a Power Bar, or a Kabuki, or anything else fancy, but their package design team gets strong marks from me after seeing what you had to go through to get this cheese grater unwrapped, lol
Our Synergy Rhino bar was the same way. Tube with screws that was quite easy to open.
@@NiSE_Rafter Just bought my first bar in a long while - a Sabre bar from REP and it had screws AND wire staples! - At least 15 mins to get it out of the tube
Rep does the same with their bars.
How has the Voodoo bar been treating you? Does the chrome paint peel off the collars like they do on my skullcrusher bar? I like the feel and the knurling, but I'm still finding shiny chrome flakes all over my gym floor from that bar..
@@turtlepowersf It has been treating me very well... I use Kabuki plates, which do not have the smoothest finish, and I have not once had any kind of flaking, peeling, rusting, etc. No issues at all in fact, other than working the way a well made bar should :-).
09:55 Mark Rippetoe would be upset that you put the plates on backwards🤣🤣🤣
I'm upset
no
i think the rogue boneyard endcap looks better than the regular endcap but come on rogue doe some embossing or double plating or something cool!
It looks like it's expanded where it's knurled because it is lol. Knurling doesn't cut groves, you are pushing a die into the metal which creates high spots.
The knurling on the Rogue deadlift bar ( in raw steel ) has in my humble opinion the perfect amount of slap and tickle. This bar is all sadomasochistic., but I can’t lie, it’s beautiful in all that stainless splendor.
You ever play slap and tickle with 29 millimeters of raw knurled steel boy?
@@kozmo7 my Ohio Power bar has E-coat on the shaft, so I can’t say I have felt raw steel knurling at 29mm, but I bet it feels good….real good.
@@orangevideo
My Ohio Power Bar is all stainless steel from shaft to tip.
You bettta believe it feels good baby
How much knurling do you want?
Rouge: yes.
That sharp center knurl would be GREAT for squats. I imagine it would catch your shirt and stay put like no other bar. I wouldn't deadlift with it, but I might bench with it if I had lifting gloves. That knurl would catch the gloves and almost guarantee a no-slip lift.
Just get the squat bar with full knurling lol
Just wanna thank you for the bloopers with your kids. A+ display of patience and humanity while still making a great review
Very nice looking bar though. Love the contrast between the knurl and cerakote 👌
It is a good looking bar with a bite.- Mike, GGR Community Manager
I could see it being really helpful with straps or grips.
Also +1 for the end cap, it should at least have a different colour , it's a fair criticism
Completely agree. It’s such a bummer considering other bars at this price point give more shits about that detail
Coop, develop a product like fat grips but it goes on bars that have a more passive knurling and the add on has a sharper knurling. It would be a fun challenge for some of us masochistic types to see how much we can deadlift with the grips on. My wife’s Bella bar is so darn passive! (Thank goodness we have a Pyrros bar and Kabuki Trap bar with such phenomenal knurling).
I was literally just thinking about this barbell , glad to see the review
Your review of the 2.0 bar helped my decision years ago
As a Shipping and Receiving guy, it’s one thing to say it needs a better package… but coming up with a good/cost effective options is another task altogether.
Were I a product leader, I would simply add $500 to the overall cost of the bar and have Pelican Cases develop a barbell case.
If you are already pot committed, why not. Would keep it safe from elements too.
@@bgajdek I mean I was joking, but I'm sure there'd be people out there that would want this option.
You know my boy actually works out when his hands look like he was a working peasant for the Queen of England. Huge fan!
Got the 3X, love it, much sharper than my weightlifting bars (Rogue Pyyros, Eleiko Power Lock), but not at all uncomfortable for me. Can recommend it if you're a seasoned lifter with years of calluses, very grippy. No chalk needed.
We need a review on the 2x aggro bar!!! Also I think the 2x is the bar most people would actually buy as the 3x is just a novelty in my opinion.
I've the 2x and a SS opb. The 2x is just perfect in my opinion. But I've not touch a 3x as of yet. Was scared too order it lol

Ever use a Rep Deep Knurl Power Bar EX or Vulcan SS Power Bar?
i used a little tree saw to cut through the cardboard on my recent ohio bar purchase. was off in 2 minutes and if you cut near the end it doesn't even matter if you go through because the bar is deeper inside.
is it just me or is a more aggressive knurling fun to lift with?

What do you sumo pullers like to use? Are you all always gripping the smooth when pulling?
I know different mechanics for everyone but still
@@kozmo7 mm not the smooth one, i think if i pull that i wouldn't have the grip
Finally! Been waiting for this one Coop!
Coop, I agree with you on the opening of the barbell package. However, I found that taking a reciprocating saw to the very end of the tube (within an inch) allows to open it up in about 20 seconds. Just ensure that the barbell is shifted all the way to the other side, so you don't nick the sleeve. It works like a charm every time. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Coop, awesome review, I agree 100% with you, the unboxing experience is important. I only got to unbox 2 power bar and this need to be improved. For the price we pay, I dont think it would add more cost but the benefits would be significant. Also, end cap….man, seriously they can do anything better than this? They need to be different from one finish to the other…doesnt cost much to do so. Especially with all the profits they engaged during pandemic. This said…you’re the best, I enjoy all thr reviews even thought some products doesn’t interest me!
I worked Inbound Cargo in the military for 7 years. Flat head screwdriver and beat it with a hammer. Works every time.
Really looking to hear some feedback on the 2X AGGRO, which will probably be the best sellar. Specifically, where does it slot in when compared to the OHP in bare or stainless, the OH deadlift bar, and the Texas Deadlift bar, all with no finish or stainless.
Brandon would be so happy right now.

It’s pretty unfortunate that everyone is missing the main purpose of the barbell knurling in the comments. Ur suppose to bring an apple with you to your lifts and skin it on the knurling to get a clean and healthy preworkout before lifts.
Thank you I’ve been waiting for a review on this 🙏🙏🙏
my school got new ones. And we were doing hang cleans during summer football weights. It was like a cheese grater on my hands. So many callises were cut open and it was a bad time.
It's not a weightlifting bar, it's a power bar. Use a weightlifting bar for cleans.
I prefer barbell packaging this way, makes it so I'm sure it's undamaged during delivery because some of these drivers just throw shit around.
Thanks for great review! Really looking forward to it.
I like the part where you said bronze bushing
"I'm hook gripping right now... That was a bad decision" 🤣🤣
Coop isn't kidding around about that knurling. I got to play around with the 3x AGGRO bar at the Rogue facility and no way I'd want to squat or deadlift with it. That said, the 2x AGGRO bar's knurling was on point. I purchased the 2x bar asap 👌🏽.
Thanks! Your little comment was far more informative than the actual video. I'm considering the 2x as I like the volcano knurling....but wouldn't mine one that had some extra bite in comparison to the OPB.
The feeling of a new bar
After maybe a week or two of being released, Rogue already hiked the price another $15 lol
Looks like they've increased every bar's price as well. Bought an Echo bar in March 2020 for $205 and now that's $265 lmao.
@@davidlarmann5244
Yep. Because of the shipping crisis as well as the cost of every material going up, most companies have slowly and sometimes subtly been increasing the prices

I can feel it just by looking at it and I can my hand Calluses and knees peeling off by 20 layers
It should have had that face logo on the end caps
My gym has a bar that’s knurled like this (idk if it’s the same one) and I took a chunk out of my arm bailing a squat the other day. Shits like a feral cat on the way down.
Middle of the night and this legit made me laugh
Thank you
I could see a company adding knurling to the inside of a deep dish plate for better grip. It never been done before...
Interesting idea but I can’t imagine the cost of that
I think it’d be more beneficial on plates with a smaller lip
I like that idea lot. -Mike. GGR Community Manager
my gym didn’t have deadlift bars for a bit and i had to use one that was way sharp, im so glad my hands didn’t slip because just holding it made my hands bleed
honestly I think they ship barbells like that cause it's cheap and secure. I work at fedex, and it's so annoying when I'm trying to load a truck at 360 packages an hour and i pick up a long, thin package and the barbell encased in it slips out cause the package isn't secure enough to handle the 45 pounds of pressure put on either side.
Coop kicks ass!
sharp knurls + wrist straps = MONEY!
Unboxing Tip (having worked at rougue) screw driver to pry up the staples, and then pliers to pull them out
Mike’ can you come feel my rod?! 🤣
“You can tell it’s a birch tree, because of the way that it is”
Neat
My hands are completely scarred due to my skin condition making it so damn dry that it cracks and skin constantly falls off. I wouldn’t want this bar because of that. If my hands weren’t like that I’d love this bar
you could put low grit sand paper for the same experience!
I resorted to peeling back the cardboard layers instead of pulling staples
Daaaaamn that mustache looking sharper
the good part is once you get used to that. You never have to fear that your hands whould get hurt doureing deadlifts
Can someone explain why you would want really sharp knurling?
There isn't. People will justify grip, but there is no reason whatsoever you'd need something like this
When you bench wide it’s good to have a more sharp knurling so your hands grip stick well and not slipping outer more.
It's preference. Since people prefer a sharper bar and some people prefer less sharp. I'm sure it will help with grip some minor amount.
For low Rep ranges, less use of chalk. Great for pulling, feels good on heavy squats since it grips and bites into your shirt
It is a preference thing but for me, with large hands and frame, I really appreciate the rougher Knurl and don’t need to chalk up as much
I really don’t think this bar has much application outside of powerlifting, honestly
Strongman you usually are doing events for reps and get to use straps etc
CrossFit is always reps but when it’s not a decent Knurl is fine
Oly, their comp bars actually can be pretty damn aggressive since they’re, like powerlifting, doing 1 Rep maxes in a competition setting. However their bars are thinner with ball bearings in the sleeves.
Bodybuilding and General fitness would most likely be fine with the Ohio Power Bar or anything else with a center Knurl.
So yeah, not really much application for this AGGRO bar outside of powerlifting.
Would love to hear others’ thoughts though on it
@@kozmo7 I mean the Ohio power bar is already plenty sharp for powerlifting, I wouldn't like it any sharper tbh.
Idk why im watching this. I like smooth bars😂
the way barbells are packaged are the same way camshafts for engines are packaged
Cheers! Been waiting for this review. Got to try low bar squats = add option to get standard knurl in centre...
I have a similarly aggressively knurled bar from Rep (Powerbar EX Deep Knurl) and it took me about 3-4 months to get used to it for low-bar position squats. I had a rash that sometimes bled where I normally placed the bar for that entire time. But it also trained me to not let the bar move even a millimeter while on your back and squatting, and ~18 months later I've not had a problem with it. No rashes or even marks on my back when I squat now.
i feel like such a nerd watching a barbell review
i want this bar so bad
My school just got these for the football program… they give u the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my hands after heavy deadlifting

It's probably sharp for when using gloves for added friction
What's the benefit of having a super sharp bar?

I need this bar 😍
I've seen a few people ask about it, so after I get a chance to train with the 2xAggro for a few more workouts I'll make a post about how it compares to my deep knurl power bar ex.

TLDR - I like it enough that I'm selling my rep bar.

i’m in a quest to make my calluses bleed during a workout. might have to try this out
Coop, try pulling or prying the staples out from the outside next time.
He's not that smart! Would think after 100+ bars he would've figured that out lol.
Such a nice bar! You get Shin conditioning as a bonus!
How does the knurling on this compare to Vulcan Elite?
I've seen some of these aggressive grip lifting implements before.... They are not for exercising, they are for grating your cheese.
In my school we had a barbell what would slice your hands no matter what lift we were doing and if you got really heavy it would poke holes into your skin
I like sharp bars for benchpress, so I don't slip with my sweaty hands. For squats and deadlifts the medium is better.
I was so excited to open up my new deadlift barbell that the sheet metal cap on the end of the package cut the tip of my thumb off
Elitefts power bar still best man just my opinion!!
I don’t understand why you would need this, it doesn’t seem like it would be legal for any meet since it would mess with grip strength and cause injury, and if you’re not pulling with consideration of grip strength, you’re just gonna be using straps anyway
this is the kind of pull up bar I have
I think it sounds good. Give you those Manuel labour palms. Leathery to the touch
Must be what my college gym just got lol, almost tore off a callus only deadlifting 275
ISF Power Bar is a good cheaper option for a knurl with good grip
That bar would be awesome using it with chalk while maxing out on deadlifts
I just can't imagine hook gripping or going supinated with 245 with a smooth bar, never mind an aggressive knurling. I wouldn't bother hooking until 405+
I though about a better packaging also but I think it is done like this because of the weight of the barbell. Anything else, the barbell would fly out of the tube. It is best to spend more time opening the tube than having a bar that arrives in bad condition.
My HS has rogue pull up bars with awful knurling and every time you end up with the marks and my calluses get huge
