He is but he's also an arrogant git to go with it. A LOT of the video game music he's made he refuses to release... hell movies too. This track is a good example of that too, best one in the game and never came out.
Just imagine, Driving a harvester over a mighty dune to the fields of spice, all while puffing on a mighty cigar and keeping an eye on the tracking panel in case of worm-signs, listening to this.
red alert 3, supreme commander, forged alliance, dominion storm over gift 3, total annihilation, halo, XCOM 2, world of warships. all have some really nice music. even some unreal tournament and world of warships soundtracks are nice
Man oh man, I remember the days blaring this theme on that one mission inside the Heighliner, where you had to destroy the Atreides and Ordos reinforcements before they could arrive. It added a sense of urgency coupled with the timer ticking down - and the knowledge you were doing this in violation of the Great Convention. One of the better villain missions in gaming for sure!
Back in Dune 2, these guys had it all. Here in Emperor, they still do. Including this rockin' track. Frank Klepacki's good, but this guy's on equal footing with him, no questions asked.
You guys remember that time when the good guys had inspiring epic music and the bad guys had thrash metal music? Now grown up we all know who we'd pick for this fight
You can tell he enjoyed this experiment to make these industrial heavy metal tracks during that time when it was merely less than niche anyway. Magnificent trade
You have to play this track during mid-game when you are pumping out tanks, infantry, devastators like crazy and basically expanding three times as fast as the enemy. If the enemy makes one mistake, they`re history! :D
How come a masterpiece like this game and its soundtracks went silent? Even with Dune Spice wars.....the emperor of dune gameplay, storyline and OST, is out of its time! Bring it back!
It's from an older, oft-forgotten Real Time Strategy game called Emperor: Battle For Dune, released at the turn of the millennium by Westwood Studios (who would soon be forcibly shut down by their publishing partners, EA Games - although Westwood still survives in the form of Petroglyph Studios who went on to release other RTS titles such as Star Wars: Empire At War and Grey Goo). The game, as the title suggests, is set within Frank Herbert's "Dune" universe. At this point in the narrative, 3 main houses are fighting a war over the desert planet Arrakis, an otherwise unremarkable world of endless desert home to the nomadic Fremen and the gargantuan subterranean Sandworms, but which contains the most useful and addictive substance in the Universe - the Spice Melange, used by the Guild Of Travelers to navigate at FTL speeds, given its psychotropic properties of prescience (predicting the future). The 3 main houses are as follows: The altruistic Atreides, a thoroughly respectable house of those who would gladly call their fellow man a brother. Led by Duke Achillus (and played in the FMV cutscenes by Star Trek: The Next Generation's Michael Dorn), who take pride in both their diplomatic and military skill, and who mostly hail from the ocean world of Calodan. Their playing style within the game demonstrates a reliable equilibrium of speed and firepower The insidious Ordos, a group that started as various rich banking clans that soon turned to sabotage, espionage, and biological/chemical warfare, currently headed by the enigmatic Executrix, who all communicate through one being known only as The Speaker. They are only in this war for material gain, as is their nature, given that in their own language, there are over 300 words for the concept of profit, yet not one for the concept of compassion. Fitting, then, that they hail from Sigma Draconis IV, a ball of ice. Given their nature, individually their weapons are somewhat lacking, but they are easily the fastest troops on the battlefield, and possess means to turn the tide of battle by bewitching enemy forces. Be warned, however: certain fast vehicles have their speed greatly reduced once they're health becomes critical The barbarous Harkonnen, an entire planet's worth of corsairs, marauders and ruffians who delight in violence. At the helm of this chaotic evil is Baron Rakon, already a frail, morbidly obese man who may soon die. Naturally, his two sons Gunseng and Kopek are at each other's throats for succession of the Harkonnen Throne. Sworn enemies of the Atreides, they would do anything to drive them back and assert total dominance over the universe with their iron fist. In battle, the Harkonnen place greatest weight on their firing capabilities, sacrificing a great deal of speed in the process. But with guns as big as theirs, who needs speed? In battle, there are also 5 sub-houses of which you can ally with two for any one campaign or skirmish. The Fremen, natural allies of House Atreides, who can use sonic weaponry, and even train Fedaykin to ensnare and ride Sandworms. The Imperial Sardaukar, a hardened military force that train in harsh environments to be ready for anything, and a fitting ally for a Harkonnen conquest The Guild Of Travelers, whose uses for the Spice can be turned into powerful energy weapons to use against your foes House Ix, who pride themselves on their brilliant technological advantages, and use these in conjunction with guerrilla warfare and deception, such as projecting images of your own forces, or through the use of cloaked suicide-bomber robots And House Tleilaxu, frequent partners with House Ordos, who use their genetically engineered Gholas and Face-Dancers to manipulate the minds of their foes, as well as bio-engineered infantry and tanks to spread disease through the ranks of their foes
Well, basically, this is what you get when you get a New Age (same genre as the likes of Yanni, John Tesh, Jan Hammer, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and Mike Oldfield) musician to make "heavy metal" music. Good god, Arkenstone has put out over 50 albums. The man has to eat, breathe, and shit music to get this much skill. As one who has been a fan of his music since 1987, I've heard a LOT of what he's put out and I've never heard anything like this. Most of it is "pretty" music, sometimes with a catchy and elaborite rhythm, sometimes just very flowery, but I can hear his signature harmonies all over this track. To me, it's stupendously amazing, just like all his other music.
Reminds me of modern politics and capitalism way too much for my taste - "It's ruled by a fatman who can't walk and treat humans like trash." That makes them authentic imo.
odd to ask this given how long i've known the series. But is the Harkoonan symbol supposed to be a bull or a ram? Always thought it was a ram, but I think in the recent movie they hinted at it being a bull
As harkoneen (Russian western lands) called Suomi; (Finland lands now). Finland's national animal is brown bear. Definitely not a ram! (also ruskis btw so ram is for that artist thing
I played it in my van
Now it's Devastator
They don't make soundtracks like this anymore.
David Arkenstone is pure genious.
You can say that again.
His name is arkenstone? Fuck shit fuck
He is but he's also an arrogant git to go with it. A LOT of the video game music he's made he refuses to release... hell movies too. This track is a good example of that too, best one in the game and never came out.
REACTOR AT MAXIMUM 🤘💀🤘
Who knew harvesting Spice could sound so bad ass!
Just imagine, Driving a harvester over a mighty dune to the fields of spice, all while puffing on a mighty cigar and keeping an eye on the tracking panel in case of worm-signs, listening to this.
Prepare to summon a carryall immediately, in other case you wont get 10 slaves as a reward :)
Reward? You really have no idea how the Harkonnen deal with failure.
Resquing your spice harvester from a worm swallow isnt a failure...
That depends on whether or not your harvester is already full of spice, if not, then sucks to be you.
the harkonnen music in this game is probably THE best music in any rts game i ever played
yup so many perfect music clips...some of the best.
makes playing Harkonnen SO MUCH FUN
This, Red alert 2 and tiberian sun! Best game music!
red alert 3, supreme commander, forged alliance, dominion storm over gift 3, total annihilation, halo, XCOM 2, world of warships. all have some really nice music. even some unreal tournament and world of warships soundtracks are nice
I literally spent $70+ to buy this game, just for the soundtrack.
Red Alert 3 is the worst Command and Conquer although it's music isn't bad.
For Baron Gunseng Harkonnen!
Copec will be a better ruler of the known Universe :)

Cmon guys this game was awesome we need Emperor 2
Pasha Maisuradze Westwood is dead. EA killed it.
BlackMamba1o1 HELL MARCH MUSIC SOUND SAY
E,A GAME,S SUCK :p
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Yeah, but not from EA. We need a new studio to pick up the mantle of Westwood, which has remained unclaimed ever since they ceased to be.
MASTER MIND EA gameeeees suck as!
2:35 - 3:33 is just so good, shivers down my spine every time.
Every damn time. I play this track on repeat while I play Command and Conquer Renegade X. My K/D ratio skyrockets on this song.
Back in Dune 2, these guys had it all. Here in Emperor, they still do. Including this rockin' track. Frank Klepacki's good, but this guy's on equal footing with him, no questions asked.
The Spice must flow.
FUCK I miss Westwood. EA, you are a monster...
house harkonnen...best war music EVER!!!!
This is the track that still plays in my head 2 decades later when I think of this game
gotta love this track,
makes you want to ride a Harkonnen mech or tank, crushing everything
Eeewww. I think I just stepped in something. *Evil Laughter*
Just thinning out the Fremen stock :)
"They die too quickly!"
Probably the only video game soundtrack that makes you feel like you are at a metal concert...
You guys remember that time when the good guys had inspiring epic music and the bad guys had thrash metal music?
Now grown up we all know who we'd pick for this fight
don't sell Ordos so short, "Not an Option" is a damn good track too ;)
@@CrashHeadroom Hell, their entire OST is.
I love that the beat starting at 2:35 is directly from the original Cryo Dune game.
The Spice must flow!

Dark Alliance is really good too (oh who am I kidding, the whole damn track is awesome), but this one just blows my mind. Kick-ass deluxe!
Shame i can give only one like for this tune
i shall give one, for you!
Sick tune... one of the best in game music tracks i ever heard. LONG LIVE HOUSE HARKONNEN!
Hope Harkonnen music from Spice wars is as epic as the OST Arkenstone gave us.
this is a message to the other houses, fremen, emperor and his sardaukars... YALL CAN'T FUCK WITH THE HARKONNEN!!!
Hah, nothing fucks quite like a raging bull.
no wormsign, right?
My ears enjoy this
The best track of the Harkonnen
Idk what this is but it sounds BADASS!
Then u should try this game out and play as the evil harkonnen. Awesome music =P

2 dislikes - Atreids and Ordos ;)
I don't like Harkonen but they have best tracks
***** what's wrong with the Harkonnen?
***** Someone pull this guys heart plug!

Westwood Harkonnen: Ram, but in emperor it looks somewhat bull-like
