Hi, I have severe pain in my left groin since a self-defense class in 2016. Afterwards I had an infiltration from an orthopedist which made everything worse.
Since that infiltration the pain got so much worse. I can't bend my hip anymore so I can't sit at all and I can only walk a few metres with crutches. I came by bike and left disabled.
"Just ignoring" the pain and moving despite the pain does not work! I even passed out when a physiotherapist pushed the area. The pain is real and it's horrific. I used to be a rescue swimmer. I really do want to move but it's not possible.
The neurosurgeon a few years later said the orthopedist shouldn't have done the infiltration in that area without ultrasound or x-ray because of sensible nerves in the area.
In 2 separate clinics I was completely pain free (for a day) when they locally blocked the nervus femoralis with local anesthetics (this time with ultrasound control). But it came back when the anesthetic wore off. I don't know if the nerve causes the pain or if something in the area this nerve is responsible for causes the pain. But it seems to me that the nervus femoralis is the main clue.
I found a medication that helps (Tapentadol - same dosage for 6 years and I do NOT crave for more. Doctors also prescribed cannabis but I didn't like the side effects so I stopped), but I'm still not able to participate in life. I'm only 35 and I just want some quality of life back and be independent.
Any idea what could be the reason and what could help?
    Thanks 🙏
(I hope it's understandable. English isn't my native language and I might have messed up some medical terms.)

Can you explain “infiltration”? I don’t understand what that means.

@@mcwoods870 By infiltration I meant he took a needle and injected something that was supposed to help me. I don't remember what what is in the needle, I could look that up if it's relevant. He injected it from the left side on my hip ("trochanter" according to the doctor's letter) and went very deep.
It immediately felt horrible. I came by bike and limped outside afterwards. I vividly remember how an old lady shouted at me for being on the wrong side of the pavement with my bike. I wasn't even riding the bike because I physically couldn't anymore. I tried to get to uni because I had to work. But I couldn't even sit down. So I got a taxi home and hoped it would get better.
I should have talked to him again directly afterwards. But he was just gone and I didn't talk to anyone else in the office. I was kind of in shock I think because it was supposed to help and made everything so much worse. I just wanted to leave.
At home, I texted a friend and she encouraged me to call the doctor's office and they were like yeah it can happen that it hurts a bit more for a while. Later the doctor denied that call. If that call happened, it would have been noted in my file. It's not in my file so it didn't happen 🤦‍♀️
Anyway, I hoped it would get better if I rest a few days but it didn't 😥
I even tried to get back into training. I used to be a rescue swimmer. But I couldn't even manage the way to the pool. Never could I have imagined that this would have such severe consequences and basically destroy my life 😔
But I still hope that there's something out there that might help me...

@@ConnyWeirdWorld I’m very sorry to hear what you’ve gone through. In my experience the doctor can try a cortisone shot for the hip in 2 locations. One is in the acetabular joint and the other in the greater trochanter. In my situation the doctor told me if my pain goes away after getting the acetabular shot than that indicates Femoralacetabular Impingement (FAI) and FAI surgery will help fix my groin pain and outside hip pain.
The cortisone shot is usually only a 6 week- 6 month temporary pain relief. The acetabular joint cortisone shot is supposed to be guided by ultrasound. The greater trochanter shot doesn’t need to be guided with an ultrasound. It can be done quickly.
I would definitely get all the details of your shot. Sounds like maybe it was the acetabular joint and not the greater trochanter. Definitely research complications of the shot/location of the shot you got and what can be done to find out what went wrong (imaging scans) and how to treat those complications. Try different doctors if you are able to. Good luck to you. Keep searching for answers. Wish I could help you somehow.
Ok I went back and reread your first post. Sounds like your femoral nerve probably got hit by the needle. Not sure what country you’re in but if I were you I would reach out to the best hip hospitals and see if anything can be done with a situation like yours. Here in the U.S. the best hospitals are Mayo Clinic and John’s Hopkins. You could email their hip departments and ask for opinions.

Oof! I drive a decent amount for work so I grabbed and queued this, but I'm finally using it. Good exercises!
I'm at my monthly drill, which is 3 hours from home (4 yesterday due to accidents) and on top of that, different bed can aggravate back pain from driving. Last time I went home, I had problems for 2+ weeks 😭
So I'll be adding these to my self-care routine for sure.
