the way you went step by step and put in instructions that are obvious but also helpful in a moment of confusion or panic (which I tend to go into when technology is involoved) was great

my only problem is my router is way far away from my set up
so I have to suffer the crappy wireless Dx

Unfortunately I have the enthernet cord for my PS3, but I don't have any holes in the tv I could plug it in at

I just know that you need a router for ethernet connetion. Connect the router to the modem and use the ethernet cable that came with the router on the ps3 and router. you will need at least 2 to 3 ethernet cables. That is if your computer is set up to a wired modem. If you are talking about wifi, I don't know how to tamper with wifi.

After you follow these steps, try unplugging the modem for a second and then plugging it back into your PS3. Doesn't matter if your PS3 is turned on or if its off. Then wait about 45 seconds and see if you can do any online things on your PS3....like logging into your PSN account. You could just check to see the status of your connection but, I always log into PSN to check the connection. Let me know if that helps.

The modem is the black box with the flashing lights.You always have one end of the Ethernet cable plugged into it & the other end goes into your PS3. After you plug it into your PS3,reset your modem.Just pull the power-plug out of your modem for a second and plug it back in.You can pull the plug out of the wall or just pull the part of the plug that connects to your modem out (doesn't matter).Your PS3 might not have a signal for 30 seconds or maybe longer (just wait)Then it will have a signal

The only time it ask for WPA or WEP key if you're planning to use wireless internet via the router. Using the wired connection is simple.

Yeah and you need a router and a long ethernet cable depending on how far your modem is from your chosen room. Get a router and connect it to your modem that supplies the internet. I can't say much about wifi connection. I don't know about it.

No, the WEP key is not the password for wifi. Wep key is more like a series or number and letters that allows multiple things on the same wifi network to communicate with one another via encoded messages. Your wifi password is a password you set so others who don't have the password can't use your wifi signal.

You need the router for a wireless connection on your PS3. If you don't have a router you will have to use an Ethernet cable going from your modem to your PS3 to get online.
