      I remember my glove caught on fire. I didn't realize for a little bit. My hand was super hot. So I stopped Welding and flipped up my helmet and saw my fingers were engulfed in flames. Lucky it was just the glove in which I quickly evacuated my hand from. No harm was done to me but that glove was ruined.

      The speedglass 9100 is pretty sick for the gear. One knob tightens the gear the other adjusts the hard break when its on top. Kinda clicks in and out.

    I usually find myself saying “dammit wrong amperage” right after I melted the plate

      @@kadinthompson5039 oh Tig aluminum was a pain in my ass to get used to. Once you do it's piss easy and hella fun but it's so counterintuitive because in order to prevent you from melting the plate you need to turn the amperage up so you can finish the weld before too much heat builds up in the rest of the weldment

      Had to weld a bent plate of 2 mm thick tight, and said: "185 would be enough, right?"
      Ended up blasting a hole into 4 mm of steel with MIG

      @@apfel_taartje475 Jesus Christ no wonder it blew through. For one, MIG is a CV (constant voltage) process, where really the only variables you control are the voltage and the IPM (wire feed speed), and even then, I don't even hit 120 amps when running 1/8" 7018 stick electrodes on a 1 inch v groove weld so it's no wonder 185 blew through a 4mm plate

      I have thing weird thing that I go through left gloves no matter what they are made of and no matter what I'm doing (painting). I'm right handed so the guy in the video caught me off guard how he goes through right gloves when all he does is hold he stinger. Makes no sense. Also I noticed when I wear some shitty adidas trousers when working, it's my left leg that gets all the holes around he knee cap....
      I guess I will make a good friend to have around the shop as I'm always looking for a left glove.

      I just started using mig to put sheet metal in autobody work. I'll get all the way on the ground, everything on and no arc. I'm getting older and I'm overweight, so getting up off the ground to either turn on the welder or clamp the ground on is a big deal.

      @@maxharter5716 I've only done that a handful of times, whoever designed the Optrel autodarkeners needs a medal because they designed the grind mode to time out after ten minutes, and the indicator light is right in a spot where even if you wear glasses it's still visible around your frames

      i have both and honestly short of 10+ yrs experience welding with multiple processes in all positions they don't have the knowledge that i posses. As far as schooling goes if the school is only doing theory then its not worth shit. Mine you had to be able to be able to pass the ticket tests to move forward. A good trades course wont shove you through out the door with only theory, they will make sure you actually know how to do it.

      Kelley Forlines if the school dosent make sure you can pass it then it's not a good school. the school I went to made sure you were ready for it, very very critical on your test materials. always aim for your best and always aim to be better, between school those certs you will have leaps and bounds on career opertunity than others once you have a few years on job experience.

    At work we got " do your best and dje grind the rest" and also put cardboard between the ground clamp and your buddies bench, or flip up the continuous feed switch on the wire feeder when they're in the middle of a weld lol

      Tony some guys get away with it but in my experience, everyone ditches them because they dont last as long. Usually noobs use them but I have also seen 10 year vets get away with using them and love them

      Tony Nothing at all wrong with classic flip down hoods. Auto darkening are fine indoors, sucky outdoors. You wont find anyone welding outdoors with an auto darkening hood.

    5:57 is not right, the rod didn't arc when you touched the clamps fusing the rod onto the clamp so when you rip it off the clamp comes with it.

      I get teased in class about 1.)Buying a Laser Thermometer to measure the metal temperature. and 2.)Using it. Seriously, there is too hot to touch with bare hand temps, too hot to touch with a TIG gloved hand, too hot to touch with a Stick gloved hand, then too hot to continue welding. People make fun of me for using a tool to figure out which one it is.
