I just want everyone out here bashing on my man Phil right here, that this is a vocally difficult song and that the fact that he can sing it is just astounding, nothing short of unbelievable. Phil is the goat and y’all should really respect his effort.
Singing it in the original key is difficult - this is way lower, so it's not hard anymore. He also skips the "high" note in the verses. So it's not "astounding", it's "bearable".
This is a man who obviously is not what he used to be, (who is?) but he’s putting himself out there because this is what he loves to do. I can only wish to do the same when my health becomes as such. Thank you, Genesis for the music ! ❤️🎶☮️
@@michaelmachtmusik5847 and when you are 71 years old guess what?? No one will give a fuck about you, meanwhile Phil Collins goes into the Hall of Fame you are never going to be famous, and when you die no one will remember your name.
I agree that Phil is amazing, and one of my favorite musicians of all time, but he can't sing the song in this footage. He isn't hitting any of the notes, even with it being in a dramatically lower key than the original recording.
Daryl Stuermer, still there, still there for Genesis, and probably knows the tunes better than Tony, Phil, or Mike, at least nowadays. You listen to him in interviews and he's not just some session musician, a hired hand. He gets it, he "gets" Genesis. It would have been great to see Chester up there too, but I think, although he's not suffering as much as Phil is, he feels more comfortable restricting his activity these days, and I don't think any real Genesis fan would deny him that. We have fantastic memories. Best of luck to all Genesis members, past and present. :)
I agree mostly but I think that Banks probably knows more than any of the rest, mainly because he never really did much outside of Genesis and this is really his career (as he’s said in a few interviews), but it’s still fantastic that Daryl shows up and knock it out of the park!
Phil has always had a habit of doing things before it was cool. Now he’s crooning into his older prime before it is the stylish thing to do and I think it is ground-breaking! Genesis always charting the way, hence the name ❤️ best band EVER. Performing into your olden days. MASTERFUL
One of my favorite songs and all things considered, this sounds *terrific* Obviously with health problems it will not quite have the same edge or energy. Appears the key has been dropped down. But the vocals are in tune. The emotion and effort to show up is touching. Must tip the hat. And it offsets anything lost with age. *Have been re-playing this a few times* !
This tour is his way of saying goodbye guys. He knows his days are numbered. He wanted to give the fans a proper goodbye. He knows he's not what he use to be but he's doing it for the fans and his love of music. Hell the rolling stones have sounded like shit for years but yall still pay to see them. Show some respect
@@dmoney.....12 I don’t need to go. I can watch the shit show for free on here. It’s like a bad tribute act in a nursing home. I used to be a big genesis fan but this is just horrible
I feel bad for all these musicians that make money playing songs that they wrote when they were young and high and now that they have matured and are like what the fuck was this kid on but I gotta pay bills.
Are you insane? Or deaf? He does not "hit every note", because 1) the song is in a dramatically lower key than the original, and 2) he still doesn't hit any of the notes
Good one! I like the talk before the song! I laughed! :) Very cute! 50 years these guys together! Crazy. :) (Not Nick of course, he has some time to go. LOL)
Poor Phil. He was amazing in the 80's but he will never sound as good as he used to from this point foward. Aging Sucks !! No Jacket Required was my first Phil Collins Cassette. That's when he was in his prime and sounded so awesome !!
Footage from this tour remains the saddest I have ever seen. This will go down in history as one of the most ill-advised reunion tours ever put to stage. A shame they didn't know to just call it in '07, when they may not have been at their most exciting, but at least Phil could still play drums and hit notes in songs that were already in a lowered key. In 2022, he can't even stand up. As a huge fan of them and their music, watching this is just devastating. Side note: how is this labelled "acoustic" when Daryl, Mike, and Tony are all clearly playing electric instruments?
Let me add some perspective, since I braved the covid lockdown to fly over and video the concert. The last time I saw Genesis last century, I had no idea it would be the lat time I would be given. Even this show I hadn't initially planned on it, but the tickets were really very reaonsable. Airfare and hotel not so much. Anyways, I got the final concert I wanted to formally say goodbye to absolutely, in my book, the best frontman and band. His voice did sound stronger in later shows. Please subscribe!
Anyone making smart comments: Who doesn’t value older classic things? Do you just throw down a classic heritage building because it is old or let it shine in all its glory how ever it ages? People really need to appreciate the finer shades of grey in life… come on.. your life is less dimensional because of your mind’s inability to absorb the facets of glory in this..
I don't think it was a good idea for this great singer to give a concert in such depressing conditions, his voice sounds so bad, it's a shame, it reminds me of Elvis in his last concerts.
Much different from acts like bon jovi though. It's out of respect and they play the songs out of respect. I think it's very comparable to Sinatra's last days on the road. He was so in his head about it when in reality his fans just wanted to see his effort and say goodbye. On a side note I'm surprised actually how good they sound, you can tell they aren't playing the same way or trying to play at 100. Phil can barely hold a mic and is singing better than most would expect.
@@mondgalaxy9522 it’s not growing old, it’s about growing wise…a wise man knows his limitations as he ages, and old fool doesn’t, not implying Phil is an old fool, but this was not a good career move for his legacy.

Phil was brought up to be a performer. There's so much goodwill in the audience he can carry it off and why the hell not?
Stay healthy, Phil...

Chester and phil having a falling out is the reason he isn't there. However, Nic Collins has done a remarkable job drumming.

Couldn't get through it. Somebody fetch me a time machine.
I don't know. Somehow I feel, the should've brought Chester Thompson with them. Shame.
I don't see why this is labelled as "acoustic". Electric piano, electric bass and just a semi-acoustic guitar.
Fair enough. Maybe "acoustic-style performance" might be a better way to put it.
