I love ordering this, but where do you get those salted fish? What does it look like and what kind of fish is it? TIA
Same recipe as the previous with the crispy prawn. This dish is flexible.. can use many variations.. mixed vege... cubed ham/luncheon meat... corned beef....etc..
Good morning, Mr Nasi Lemak. Indeed, this fried rice recipe is so versatile. You can cook anything you like using the key steps involved. :)
Is the Oil Salted Fish different than the Fried Dace you find in cans?
Ohhb man I wanted to be the 1000 person to like this but nooo I had to be 999 shit !! Dui lay !!!!
I think I would substitute anchovies for salt fish. I love the flat bottom wok! I had one like it for years and wore it out.:)
Hi Jason. We love it too. It’s so useful and versatile. Hope you’ll find a new flat bottom wok soon. Happy shopping!
Tried this dish today and it was delicious. I substituted the anchovies with chai poh that I had. I also added carrots and topped the dish with fried garlic. It was yummy and my family loved it. Thank you.
Now I have to look into the salted fish 👍🏾
Definitely give salted fish a try, it's super concentrated taste and those who like it are addicted !
Thank you Nino Browne17. Hope you can find a nice brand of salted fish soon. Happy cooking :)
Good morning from West part of SG. I can smell it from my house 😋😋😋
Hehe. Thank you so much D! So sorry for our late reply. We're almost on the opposite end of the island :) Have a wonderful day!
Hi Chef, do we need to wash the salted fish before frying them?
Your videos are always so relaxing and interesting to watch. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Donald :))
I just made this. It's really good. But the white pepper either has to be freshly ground or use black pepper instead. Cause the packed ground white pepper stinks. And makes the whole thing stink. In my humble opinion.
Wow, Ciro Galli, you're fast! Thank you so much for using our recipe and for sharing your experience. You're awesome!
can someone explain what i look for when i go to asian supermarket to find salted fish. i want to make this dish
Thank you so much, Tama for your interest to use our recipe 🤓🤓 you can go to your Asian supermarket and let the sales assistant know you’re looking for salted fish to add to your fried rice. The person should be able to recommend a few types to consider. Hope you’ll like this recipe. Happy cooking!
@@spicenpans Thank you for the quick reply, ill try that
👍
What is the salted fish? Is it canned or dried? Would it be similar to sardines in a can?
No, not canned. It's usually salted and sundried. Some Asian supermarket frozen section has them. Latin market has dried fish but I am not sure if they are salted.
Hi Fight Tyranny, the salted fish we got came in a glass bottle, filled with oil. It does look like packed sardines in oil from the outside. Like how livefree described, there are sundried ones too but we used the ones soaked in oil because we felt it is most fragrant when used in fried rice. Hope this helps!
May I ask if for the brand of this wok/frying pan you are using ? Did you season it prior to use ? How is it compared to say, an old school black metal wok ? Thanks so much !
Hihi Maevis. The wok/pan we used in this video is a granite coated non-stick from Shogun by La Gourmet. You do not need to do anything to season the pan before using. When using non-stick pan, we recommend avoiding the following:
1) do not use olive oil for cooking because it has a low smoking point which will spoil the coating of the pan.
2) do not use metal spatula or anything metal to cook
3) do not cook hard ingredients such as crabs, shellfish (with shells on) etc
4) do not use too high heat to cook. Normal household stove is fine because the fire strength is moderated.
Hope this helps. Happy shopping!
I hope if i add in 4 oil soaked salted fish, rice won't be too salty. Maybe 3 is better? Why not fry chicken separately set aside then fry salted fish with the rice & rest of ingredients then add back the chicken? Can it be done that way?
Mmmmmmmmm... fried rice taste so good. That taste so delicious and flavourful fried rice. Great recipe. See u next time.
Hi Kenny Rogers! Have a great weekend in advance :))

If i add 4 pieces of salted fish do i need to cut down on the soy sauce & chicken stock powder?
Hi Lilian, you can still add because just by adding salted fish won't be salty enough. Happy cooking!
I heard freshly cooked rice tastes better than using overnight rice.what do you think?
I cooked this for my kids but just with the salt fish It was immaculate thank you the recipes in my books now
Another great dish my friend, I hope you and family are well take care
Thank you so so much, Des. We are all very well. We’ve been busy in the kitchen today, with a target of 4 videos to be done. Onto our last video now. Hope it turns out fine. Have a wonderful weekend!
When u mean 2 cups rice is it normal measuring cups or 'rice cooker' cups?
Hi Lilian. We used rice cooker cups. Happy cooking!
I love your fried rice recipes!!!!!Thanks....also do you add room temperature rice or cold from the fridge rice?
Hi Pag3309, thank you so so much! Please take the rice out of the fridge about 15 - 30 mins before you cook them. Happy cooking!
@@spicenpans Thanks I made this exact recipe a few day's ago and my family loved it!!!!
Awesome!!! Thank you so much for using our recipe. We’re so Glad that your family enjoyed it. Yay!!!
Can I replace the salted fish with fish sauce?
Hi Paulson. Thanks so much for watching our video. Unfortunately salted fish isn’t the same as fish sauce. Fish sauce is quite similar to light soy sauce. If you can’t get hold of salted fish, then you might wanna skip it totally. In your fried rice is not salty enough because of the missing salted fish, you can increase the amount of light soy sauce or fish sauce used. Happy cooking!
Thank you so much for inspiring me to cook 😊 .God Bless@@spicenpans
Thank you for this recipe. I been looking for a recipe to learn how can I cook the perfect rice. Thank you again
Roland thank you so much for your recipes. You are a wonderful teacher! I've made about 5 of your recipes including this one and each dish has turned out a success. Your instructions are so simple and clear. You don't use unnecessary ingredients and most of the time I already have all the ingredients in my kitchen. You also give explanation of why to do or not to do certain things! Much appreciated! My cooking has definitely improved because of you. Please keep up the great work; I'm looking forward to more delicious recipes from you.
Hi Trang! Thank you so so much. You're really kind with your comments. I'm happy to be able to share the limited knowledge that I have with more people. Keep cooking and you will soon be better than me. :)))

Made this it’s absolutely delicious 😋 and easy to make
I love fry rice Sir? It's so yummy... 😘
Thank you so much, Sri 🙏🙏
How long do you soak the fish in oil?
‘Oil soaked salted fish’ - does this mean anchovies?
Hi Elmo. It’s salted fish. Although anchovies are salted too but it’s rather different. However if salted anchovies are the only ones you can get, you can use that too. Happy cooking!
Spice N' Pans - is it like Caribbean salt fish? I can get that. Thank you for the great videos 👍
Sun dried salted fish
i like your shows thank you

This looks sooo good. Can’t wait to try it. I need a cast iron wok 👍🏼👍🏼

Good food😇
Thank youuuuu
Thank you too, Paprika 🙏🙏🙏
👍🏻👌🏻🌺
This looks great but I highly doubt if there's any flavor from this dish, I guess this is best served with some type of sauce or meat with sauce.
