    Great video. Your take down one is excellent, too, especially for us first timers. You mentioned you hadn't been out all year because of Covid. Your yard is beautiful. Looks like a great place to "camp" to me! 🙂

    I was just gifted a 1987 Coleman Shenandoah popup!!! Your video was extremely helpful!!! I subscribed! I'm very UA-cam ignorant so I'm hoping to communicate somehow. I'm 70 years old and finally retired. My plan is to visit friends and see my country. Thank you so much for this video, especially since it's the same year as the unit I'm getting. I just got a 87 Coleman Sun Valley given to me on my birthday.
    Has some road side damage, got to replace the whole roadside metal, plus frame work. But I was amazed at the inside! Still has original galley! The wood grain metal cabinets!
    The gentleman who gave it to me, had replaced the whole canvas, which is a big plus!
    Looks just like yours!
    I’m looking forward to getting mine fixed and going camping!
    You gave me some awesome and amazing ideas to stabilize the beds more on the outside!

    I just bought a 1981 Coleman Sun Valley for $300. It's not had quite as good care as yours but it's sound and only needs a few little fixes here and there. Will eventually need to replace a canvas panel or two, tires are bald, and the heater is busted so I'll probably just end up using a Buddy or Wave-3 heater. It's a great little popup for a week long adventure. Glad I found your video so I know how to set it up.

    I just purchased an 83 Sun Valley, my plan was to make a Concession trailer out of it, I am having a hard time with that now, the canvas is good, well most everything is good about it, so if anyone needs canvas let me know, or poles for the beds etc. I will be gutting it to make it a funnel cake concession unit for our little fair here in SW Washington. Thank you for all the great information on the unit's set up, I have a nice bruise on my arm from slipping with the crank - lol.. I just can not figure out how to lock it to stay up unless I use the little hook into a hole on the crank assembly.
    Thanks Again for the video.

    Just a heads up! I have a 1986 Coleman manual and it recommends that you don't use the stabilizer bars to support the weight of the camper. They're only to keep the camper from rocking. Wow! I have been looking at buying an Aussie Jayco Swift, brand new downunder for $20,000 and change, It's amazing looking at the similarities and modernizations that have been done to what is still basically the same design. What a bargain, and I can see why you love it!
    The only thing I worry about with these wind-up campers is the mechanism that could jam or a cable comes adrift down where the clever stuff happens when you crank. Did you service or lube the mechanism and cables?
    Anyhoo, while I'm obsessing about fluke things that might go wrong you are enjoyng your 1987 Coleman. Good for you! Great video and delivery, BTW:)
    Just another thing... are they the original 1987 tires? If they are I probably would drive at 50 rather than 60 if you get some wet travelling conditions. The carcass of the tire might still be pretty sound but the wet grip (in my experience) gets very sketchy when the rubber is 30 years old:)

      Ross Kelly thank U for the great thoughts! • @laffilmfest3759
      @laffilmfest3759  2 роки тому

      Sharon Nix that's a tough one, as u have probably thought it sounds like some thing has bent....maybe the camper frame...maybe the door itself, if it was mine I would forget about how it should go and custom make the door fit...by either adding wood where the gap is(probably have to be cut in a wedge) or thick door gasket material, my first thought was the camper was unlevel side to side or front to back.....or....back right corner to front left corner, u might try setting it up on flat level concrete....then jacking one corner up and have someone watch it....continue process on each corner, if one corner goes up 6 inches with no result let it back down and move to the next corner, if u find it works get some blocks of wood and set them under that corner the same height each time u set up, sure sounds like your up right beams are bent some....sorry I could not be of more help..

    Any chance of posting up your plans for that support? A video or just a list of materials and steps?

      Hello, I didn't draw anything up for plans, just came to me as I built it, main piece is a 2×4, legs are spindals for a handrail...bolts-nuts- washers to attach legs, pretty easy stuff to find in any hardware store, I usually use a shopping cart as workbench as I go through the store finding everything I need, hope this helps a little and thanks for watching, I have another video in the Playlist Coleman Sun Valley pop up that shows a different support for the hitch side(front side)

      Thanks. Great idea since it seems to just be pressed board and after 20-30 years with all the weight on those 2 small spots, it has to weaken it. I will check out the other vid. Cheers.

    I just bought an immaculate, garage kept, inside is like showroom quality. For $600.00 can't wait to use it this February 2022. Mine is a 1985 coleman pioneer. Do you or anyone know what the plug under the dining seat is for? I know you can attach an adapter but what is it for? I know the tongue has one but for a battery(I just need to buy the male adapter. The one under the seat is a female. I'm confused on why there is 2? But opposite connecting ends. Any help would be appreciated.

      Mr. Nathan Hall congrats on your purchase! I'm thinking the plug is for connecting a deep cycle battery but i don't know that for sure. Also...i found out camping in the winter(if it is cold where u r) u will need to be careful undoing the rubber gasket that snaps into the door frame.....it gets super ridged and i always worried i would damage it...warmer weather works just fine....thank U for watching :)

    do you think this can be transported with a electric e bike? Or too heavy? Even if the inside is gutted out?

    • @laffilmfest3759
      @laffilmfest3759  Рік тому

      Stunna Studios I'm thinking way too heavy(i think the weight unloaded is around a thousand pounds), I was in a habitat store a few days ago and saw a vintage Coleman pack trailer(the one with 2 wheels rather then 1)...looked nice for $150...probably need new tires and bearings, but something like that along with a Gazelle T4 tent and u would have a nice set up :)

      Don't think I can add photos on here...look up the original manual on line and it will show u...the wire it sounds like u r describing is a safety wire, it should have a lever u switch with a black end on it that actually locks it into place

    Clearly you don’t live in MN as I thought at first when you mentioned Superior. I heard the cicadas-we don’t have them quite that loud here in MN! 😉 Actually, do we have them at all??? Hmmmm…

      Kelly Anne I think those are locust calling out, the cicadas were extreme last year in the Hoosier National Forest.....I actually have a video where I pulled in and was shocked how loud they were....let me see what the title and Playlist it is on....I will get back to U, and I only spent time in MN on a boundary waters trip(a video called "Sacred Vision" talks about that trip) so I'm not sure about cicadas up there, I spend a lot of time on Lake Superior's southshore in the UP and have not heard them there...but I'm usually not there until fall.....thanks for watching and commenting!!

    This is what I hate about my Coleman popup. There are no springs or assist on raising the top. I have an A/C on mine, so it is heavy as fck. Can you imagine what would happen if that topper lock failed??? It would kill everyone inside of the camper, and my older unit does not have safety backup. It has a tiny pin that pops out and holds the handle in the extended position. I am selling the camper now, but if I were keeping it I would put both a secondary safety chain on the outside and some kind of prop rod inside. On with the rest of the video...
