Ah, the magic that happens when an "old Tamiya hand" closely inspects a modern RC! As you opened the marvellous hinged body and looked underneath, I was sharing your wonder and joy at how exquisitely made and finished some of the components are. I suppose we tend to get used to what we know and love. Though I am occasionally guilty of straying away from Tamiya, I tend to stray down-market, so this car's build quality delights me!

Looks like a really nice packaga, Mark! It's 2024, and RC cars are modern! This thing has a lot of features from the bash car industry, really nicely applied on a rallycar chassis! And it did great on all your drive tests, even that slimy slippery forest floor, amazing! Great stuff! Only thing I'd be missing would be the build experience, but probably a lot of people aren't after that anyway...

Too right, I was amazed how well it handled the slippery concrete and the forest floor, it had no right to be as easy to drive as it was! Nice look at the other version! I am glad it runs just as well as the higher priced one. I was pretty shocked on how well it did out on those wet leaves, I though for sure it would just spin out and drive terribly but it was ripping out there! great review of the kit Mark and I am glad it finally showed up!!!

The spec is only a little lower, a little less speed but all the same wonderful chassis components! Hey brilliant review Mark, I think you covered everything there! I hadn't realised that it was quite a bit wider than the Tamiya's but good to know they give you the option to narrow it. Apart from doing the performance comparison with the Tamiya's it would be good to look at value for money because my video on that subject has done well. What you get with this compared to a Tamiya is a really complete car including all the lights and the clever way the body attaches and just a load of things that would be hop ups on a Tamiya. Having said all that I think the XV-01 will beat it round some cones. This defo needs rally block tyres like you say. Anyway top work on the vid mate. As it's Sunday why not treat yourself to a beer 😁🍻🍻🍻

All I heard was something about "loose and wet". Perfect for rally cars indeed. I can't wait for the snow to leave ( in a couple months) so I can get mine on the go!

Its crazy looking at what you get for your money here,especially with all those features,and what looks like some really good engineering....i do love the way the body mounts! And it definitely performs extremely well as you superbly demonstrated. The giro looks like its a major asset to. Have to commend Lou on the camera on the first rather wet run,great work! It really looked in its element in the woodland setting,and heaps of fun. And,I've yet to see anyone break one properly yet.....all good! Just wish they weren't RTR,i bet one of these would be an absolute joy to build! Superb review mate,top job! 😊👍 👍

@@BasBoyRC In the real world, it certainly is! But most the Tamiya rally replicas sit on the 257mm wheelbase chassis - with a few exceptions! (MkII Escort, Beetle Rally and Renault Turbo spring to mind!) Even the Toyota Yaris Rally is on the TT02 chassis!

I bought one of these roller kits for my son. It's awful. It very small, uses WAY too many 1.5mm screws. I bought the upgraded servo arm and mount, neither actually fit in the car. They use bushings for the front steering arms instead of bearings and spacers. Since they don't use the right spacers, they load up the steering support posts with locktite because you can't toque them or they bind. Yes they load up 1.5mm screw with threadlocker. BTW their policy is that if you open the box you can't return it, I asked. This is my first time trying Rlaarlo and it's my last. They went through a massive influencer 'free car' advertising effort so I am leaving this comment on as many as I can find.
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. No I didn't buy the car but i had to do a hell of a lot of work to make this video. I genuinely like the car out of the box and feel no need to upgrade the servo arm or mount, it drives great as it is. Agree that it's bad not to take returns on open boxes if the car hasn't been driven though. I do think it's healthy for the hobby to have an honest range of comments so thanks very much for your input. 😎👍

She goes well off-road .I’ve converted all my TT02’s with 70mm long shocks made my own taller shock towers and they’re a different animal off-road ..

Hi Mal, yes it is a bit bigger than the Tamiyas but it is the same 257mm wheelbase!

@@BasBoyRC In the real world, it certainly is! But most the Tamiya rally replicas sit on the 257mm wheelbase chassis - with a few exceptions! (MkII Escort, Beetle Rally and Renault Turbo spring to mind!) Even the Toyota Yaris Rally is on the TT02 chassis!
Love the XTS! I don't think you'll need to change the tires to drive off-road. Does pick up a LOT of debris in the chassis though...

I can't find the waterproof rating from Rlaarlo but as I completely submerged the chassis I can say it is waterproof!

I bought one of these roller kits for my son. It's awful. It very small, uses WAY too many 1.5mm screws. I bought the upgraded servo arm and mount, neither actually fit in the car. They use bushings for the front steering arms instead of bearings and spacers. Since they don't use the right spacers, they load up the steering support posts with locktite because you can't toque them or they bind. Yes they load up 1.5mm screw with threadlocker. BTW their policy is that if you open the box you can't return it, I asked. This is my first time trying Rlaarlo and it's my last. They went through a massive influencer 'free car' advertising effort so I am leaving this comment on as many as I can find.
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. No I didn't buy the car but i had to do a hell of a lot of work to make this video. I genuinely like the car out of the box and feel no need to upgrade the servo arm or mount, it drives great as it is. Agree that it's bad not to take returns on open boxes if the car hasn't been driven though. I do think it's healthy for the hobby to have an honest range of comments so thanks very much for your input. 😎👍
