Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Scott is RIDICULOUSLY STRONG? Sure, not all the stuff he handles is all that heavy but with how awkward some of the stuff he handles is (like the tables) being able to flip them over his head and do one-handed hammer throws with them and -- PUNCHING AN EGGPLANT IN HALF -- while its free floating no less, is telling of incredible strength. Great video Scott. You're gonna own every 500 mag firearm in the world in the next year or so lol.
I got one of these rifles 2 years ago - slightly used and with 20 rounds of ammo for $150! To date, one of the best deals I've ever gotten on a firearm. I absolutely love it! The previous owner is a coworker who hated the recoil and just wanted it gone, and I was happy to oblige! :) Loved this video! ❤
Sounds like somebody decided they liked their shoulder more than .500 magnum. Rifle, like new. Only fired once. Comes with a box of 19 .500 S&W magnum rounds.
It would make a great pheasant rifle. Besides evaporating your dinner and lobbing a chunk of lead about a mile away. I wouldn't shoot anything smaller than a hog with that beast.
I like that first attempt (3:48) at the Olympic Men's Table Toss. That two-handed symmetrical rearward overhead toss was perfect! The definition in body form was spot on, and the table landing was perfect. 10/10!
Would have been better with a reasonable factory zero though. While shooting low is an easier fix than shooting high, a front sight filing job is usually a good deal of trial and error for ammo as expensive as 500
I've been trying to buy a Handirifle in .500 Magnum. They cost $250 new but since they haven't been made in years, they go for $750ish. It's train robbery, you can almost get a BFR for the price of a Handirifle, even though the BFR is 4 or 5 times the MSRP...
I love mine, I picked it up for about $500 a couple years ago. I chronographed the 700 grain bullets at 1250 fps! almost 200 fps faster than the revolver.
@@50caLIndycar Underwood says they're 1200 fps. I would assume that's supposed to be out of a revolver. I only got 1088 fps from my 8". It sounds like you got about the same. They were all over the range trying to shoot 100 yards with them. I feel better seeing Scott miss a few times with the rifle.

A buddy of mine has had one of these for many years. His shot all over the place until we figured out every time he would fire it, his rear sight would move because of the recoil. It seemed like no amount of loc tite would ever keep it in place
I got one chambered in 7mm-08 and put a 4-14 vortex scope on it after that no issues 100% accurate out to 300 yards. The factory iron sights suck never hit accurate so I'd put decent mount and scope on it
@@NinjaofApathy the sights that H&R provided for my 500 were made of plastic. The first shot, the rear sight came off the slide. I never could get it to hold decent.
Honestly, looks like it would be an amazing short range deer rifle, and single shots are way more fun than they have any right to be. Have an ancient Iver Johnson that I made a 9mm chamber insert for (it got slightly bulged at some point, so 12ga is unsafe in it) and it's an absolute hoot as a little pop gun. All the barrel seems to quiet it a lot. I can reload 9mm, so it's a cheap can blaster.
A third model IJ Safety Hammerless was my first firearm, father got it cheap from a friend of the family. It has a damn stiff trigger and can only shoot .32 shorts safely, but it's a fun little plinking piece when I have a couple spare hours.
I have the H&R 1871 in 500 S&W. I liken the kick to a 20ga with 3" duck loads. I have not shot the 700 gr, but 500 gr Grizzly, 440gr Buffalo Bore, 350gr XTP Underwood, and 500 gr Hornady soft point are all managable and the gun is fairly accurate with each of them. The Underwood chronographed 1962fps over 5 shot average and the Buffalo Bore 440s ran 1820! Shot a large doe with it last year using the xtp underwood. I held a bit high, she was about 115 yards, she turned as I fired, the bullet hit high behind her shoulder, followed along her backstrap, and exploded her pelvis like a hand grenade. She dropped, but rolled away with the one good foreleg. I finished her about 50 yards away from where she fell with 9mm to brain. I am hoping to get another deer or hog during the next "primitive" firearm season using the Buffalo Bore 440 hard cast and hope to see what a broadside hit will do.

About ten years ago. I wanted to buy one in 500 because I was unsure of getting ammo for it. However I did find a handi in 45/70 I absolutely love the rifle I try and take it out every chance I get. Been loading for it aswell. I’ve cooked up some hot rounds for it , has nice kick
took my 45/70 H&R Shikari to the weekly indoor bowling pin match we use to have, had the reloads between my fingers quigley style on the support hand, the 405gr soft points booted the pins to the end of the 25yd range and up into the bullet trap, and i got to bean the RO with the ejected brass, was fun

Love this rifle. Own 2 of them , 500 & 444 marlin. Only problem is , haven't seen ammo for either in over a year. Great short range deer rifles , which is what I use them for.

Shaving off these few seconds makes you not enjoy them anymore ? And it is more than senseless destruction. He is a genuinely entertaining person with good shooting, and the unique guns he brings are good inspiration for game Devs. Although I guess it was your opinion and there was like no reason for me to uh whatever, I am just giving my own thoughts as to why I don't care.
I have one of these. The recoil is stout to say the least. My shoulder registers it in the "ow" range. Ive never fired factory ammo through it. I reload for it. 300gr Hornady FTX chrono just under 2400fps, 460gr cast gas checks a little over 1600fps and 350gr xtp mag come in at about 2050fps. None of those are hot rod loads. I've loaded and fired some 700gr cast bullets but my chrono isnt accurate in 20deg weather. Have to wait until it warms up.

I've been a fan of NEF for a long time. I used to have an NEF survivor rifle in .308 with a heavy barrel, cheapest .308 I could find and after adding a little weight , and using a bore finishing system on it, it would put six shots inside a quarter at 200 yards and inside a silver dollar size circle at 600 yards.
I'm from Vermont so these new england guns are usually a kids first deer gun .mine was a 4 10 for slugging deer they are a good price and are practical ..nice to see. Those knives are sweet to buddy
@@buddyrevelle736 Maybe we can hold out hope that now that Ruger owns Marlin, they'll build one. I think it's more likely that they'll build one in 480 Ruger, but you never know. The 480 could go in the shorter platform that they used for the .357, .41 and .44 Mag rifles, as it's the same length. The .500 would have to go in the 336/1895 frame, like the .45-70.
I was honestly expecting either a lever-action or a AR-15 variant though this one looked kinda fun. Also happy Holiday and in the next year I wonder if Scott will be kinder to those tables? Oh who am I kidding, he'll just come up with more ways to destroy them :-)
@@sweetvampirous66 It would certainly. Largest I’ve shot in the AR was a .45 caliber, perhaps a Socom? Don’t remember now. The AR is actually limited by the rebated rim it must use-don’t know how they’d accommodate the rimmed .500 S&W?
2:30 No, it kicks right about how I expected it to kick :) I have an old H&R built about like that except it's a 12ga 3" cylinder bore with a long barrel, 26" or so. Doesn't weigh much over 4lb and with slugs it's absolutely *nasty* .... ED: 3:05 That even looks a little familiar, the rifle yanking itself out of your front grip. Gotta get those fingers wrapped up over the edge of the stock and even then it's no guarantee :-D

The 454 casull will get about 300fps more velocity from a 20" rifle than a 6.5" revolver. Hornady 240gr xtp: (1900fps from revolver, 2200fps from rifle). Hornady 300gr xtp (1700fps from revolver, 2000fps from rifle) these are very hot loads btw
Wow, that round hits a LOT harder than I thought it would. You should have Chrono'd both the pistol and the rifle, it would be interesting to know what the extra barrel length is adding onto the velocity.
I *ADORE* these rifles and shotguns! I've been collecting them for years and have a safe full of them from .17HM2 to the .45-70 Buffalo Special. They are so much fun to collect and shoot! I'm still waiting for a .500S&W to come up on GunBroker and methinks I'm going to continue waiting for quite some time. 😏

Yeah those Barnes full Copper expanders do hella damage to soft targets. The last deer are shot with one of those out of my 45-70 was missing a chunk of shoulder about the size of softball on the opposite side.
I believe big horn armory makes 500 mag leve actions, among other big bores. Would be worth looking into. I think hickock45 has one chambered in 500 mag.
I'd so love to have one of those Bighorn Armory leverguns, but I've heard mixed reviews on the fit/finish as well as their function (feed issues, lever popping open, etc). For $4k (as I'd option it), I'd expect it to be perfect.

oo man, the way this gun shoots in slo-mo is unbelievably satisfying... Its almost like you can feel the release of the trigger/hammer, the firing of the bullet, and then the awesome low-tone hit of (said bullet) into the steel plates; (kinda' like a bell tower bell).

I own the 8 3/8th S & W 500 & I am also curious on the difference in the velocity difference between the rifle and the Pistol. Loved the entertainment though...that 500 is a cannon round.
Fun gun, I was hoping to see those 700 grain bullets hit the cinder blocks. I think it would break all three. That gun needs a 1-9 power scope so you could dial it in a bit. Great video Scott. Merry Christmas to all at Kentucky Ballistics!
That rifle is pretty cool ngl, only issue is having to reload every single time you pew pew something once. So I would still stick to the trusty hand Cannon instead. Awesome vid as always Scott! And despite the downfall it has, it's a nice toy nonetheless!

Scott.... I saw a short video on the 4 gauge magnum double rifle. It makes a.700 nitro express look like a .22 long rifle. The gun sells for one million dollars and is considered the ultimate in double rifle and ballistics. Look it up. Now I realize that you can't just buy one to make a video about it. Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Scott is RIDICULOUSLY STRONG? Sure, not all the stuff he handles is all that heavy but with how awkward some of the stuff he handles is (like the tables) being able to flip them over his head and do one-handed hammer throws with them and -- PUNCHING AN EGGPLANT IN HALF -- while its free floating no less, is telling of incredible strength.

I got one of these rifles 2 years ago - slightly used and with 20 rounds of ammo for $150! To date, one of the best deals I've ever gotten on a firearm. I absolutely love it! The previous owner is a coworker who hated the recoil and just wanted it gone, and I was happy to oblige! :) Loved this video! ❤

It would make a great pheasant rifle. Besides evaporating your dinner and lobbing a chunk of lead about a mile away. I wouldn't shoot anything smaller than a hog with that beast.
I like that first attempt (3:48) at the Olympic Men's Table Toss. That two-handed symmetrical rearward overhead toss was perfect! The definition in body form was spot on, and the table landing was perfect. 10/10!

Now that is a nice rifle. I've always liked single shot break action for some reason and a 500 magnum version looks like a massive blast
I own the exact same gun in .410 guage and I love it.
Single shot break action makes each round feel more special. Brings a sense of reverence.

Would have been better with a reasonable factory zero though. While shooting low is an easier fix than shooting high, a front sight filing job is usually a good deal of trial and error for ammo as expensive as 500

I've been trying to buy a Handirifle in .500 Magnum. They cost $250 new but since they haven't been made in years, they go for $750ish. It's train robbery, you can almost get a BFR for the price of a Handirifle, even though the BFR is 4 or 5 times the MSRP...

I love mine, I picked it up for about $500 a couple years ago. I chronographed the 700 grain bullets at 1250 fps! almost 200 fps faster than the revolver.
@@50caLIndycar Underwood says they're 1200 fps. I would assume that's supposed to be out of a revolver. I only got 1088 fps from my 8". It sounds like you got about the same. They were all over the range trying to shoot 100 yards with them. I feel better seeing Scott miss a few times with the rifle.

A buddy of mine has had one of these for many years. His shot all over the place until we figured out every time he would fire it, his rear sight would move because of the recoil. It seemed like no amount of loc tite would ever keep it in place
I had one and had a hard time keeping sights on it. Maybe, somewhere there are a good set of steel sights that would work on it.
I got one chambered in 7mm-08 and put a 4-14 vortex scope on it after that no issues 100% accurate out to 300 yards. The factory iron sights suck never hit accurate so I'd put decent mount and scope on it

I had one of those n.e. handy rifle for 45/70 gov. It was one of my all time favorites. I wish they still made them.
Honestly, looks like it would be an amazing short range deer rifle, and single shots are way more fun than they have any right to be. Have an ancient Iver Johnson that I made a 9mm chamber insert for (it got slightly bulged at some point, so 12ga is unsafe in it) and it's an absolute hoot as a little pop gun. All the barrel seems to quiet it a lot. I can reload 9mm, so it's a cheap can blaster.
Not quite the same but have a family passed lc Smith 20 gauge dbl barrel some of those older guns function every time and are amazing to shoot
A third model IJ Safety Hammerless was my first firearm, father got it cheap from a friend of the family. It has a damn stiff trigger and can only shoot .32 shorts safely, but it's a fun little plinking piece when I have a couple spare hours.

I have the H&R 1871 in 500 S&W. I liken the kick to a 20ga with 3" duck loads. I have not shot the 700 gr, but 500 gr Grizzly, 440gr Buffalo Bore, 350gr XTP Underwood, and 500 gr Hornady soft point are all managable and the gun is fairly accurate with each of them. The Underwood chronographed 1962fps over 5 shot average and the Buffalo Bore 440s ran 1820! Shot a large doe with it last year using the xtp underwood. I held a bit high, she was about 115 yards, she turned as I fired, the bullet hit high behind her shoulder, followed along her backstrap, and exploded her pelvis like a hand grenade. She dropped, but rolled away with the one good foreleg. I finished her about 50 yards away from where she fell with 9mm to brain. I am hoping to get another deer or hog during the next "primitive" firearm season using the Buffalo Bore 440 hard cast and hope to see what a broadside hit will do.

About ten years ago. I wanted to buy one in 500 because I was unsure of getting ammo for it. However I did find a handi in 45/70 I absolutely love the rifle I try and take it out every chance I get. Been loading for it aswell. I’ve cooked up some hot rounds for it , has nice kick
took my 45/70 H&R Shikari to the weekly indoor bowling pin match we use to have, had the reloads between my fingers quigley style on the support hand, the 405gr soft points booted the pins to the end of the 25yd range and up into the bullet trap, and i got to bean the RO with the ejected brass, was fun
You can definitely tell Scott gripped harder after first shot with the slow mo. Thing looks like a beast awesome!

Love this rifle. Own 2 of them , 500 & 444 marlin. Only problem is , haven't seen ammo for either in over a year. Great short range deer rifles , which is what I use them for.

This is on my list of ones that got away. Had a chance to buy new for about $300 but was never sure about the ammo availability, that was about 2005.
I have a 30-06 handy rifle my father bought for me and my brother. 4 bucks and 7 does later, I still love it. For a budget rifle, it is one I am proud to pass down.

I have one of these. The recoil is stout to say the least. My shoulder registers it in the "ow" range. Ive never fired factory ammo through it. I reload for it. 300gr Hornady FTX chrono just under 2400fps, 460gr cast gas checks a little over 1600fps and 350gr xtp mag come in at about 2050fps. None of those are hot rod loads. I've loaded and fired some 700gr cast bullets but my chrono isnt accurate in 20deg weather. Have to wait until it warms up.
I had one. I put a limbsaver slip on pad on it, and it made it fun to shoot after that.

I own an NEF handi in .223, had no idea they made in 500. So cool!

I've been a fan of NEF for a long time. I used to have an NEF survivor rifle in .308 with a heavy barrel, cheapest .308 I could find and after adding a little weight , and using a bore finishing system on it, it would put six shots inside a quarter at 200 yards and inside a silver dollar size circle at 600 yards.

I'm from Vermont so these new england guns are usually a kids first deer gun .mine was a 4 10 for slugging deer they are a good price and are practical ..nice to see. Those knives are sweet to buddy
I feel like this makes more senses than the over whelming amount of revolvers in 500. I feel like this would make a nice mid range hunting rifle.

I have always thought that a 'brush gun' in .500 S&W Magnum was a natural combination.
@@buddyrevelle736 Maybe we can hold out hope that now that Ruger owns Marlin, they'll build one. I think it's more likely that they'll build one in 480 Ruger, but you never know. The 480 could go in the shorter platform that they used for the .357, .41 and .44 Mag rifles, as it's the same length. The .500 would have to go in the 336/1895 frame, like the .45-70.
I was honestly expecting either a lever-action or a AR-15 variant though this one looked kinda fun.

@@sweetvampirous66 It would certainly. Largest I’ve shot in the AR was a .45 caliber, perhaps a Socom? Don’t remember now. The AR is actually limited by the rebated rim it must use-don’t know how they’d accommodate the rimmed .500 S&W?

2:30 No, it kicks right about how I expected it to kick :) I have an old H&R built about like that except it's a 12ga 3" cylinder bore with a long barrel, 26" or so. Doesn't weigh much over 4lb and with slugs it's absolutely *nasty* ....

.500 S&W Magnum seems to me to be much more practical when fired out of a rifle than any kind of handgun.
That goes for pretty much any "magnum" cartridge. Including .50 Action Express.

I've always been a bit curious as to the velocity difference going from pistol to carbine barrel. It would make a pretty good video I think.

The 454 casull will get about 300fps more velocity from a 20" rifle than a 6.5" revolver. Hornady 240gr xtp: (1900fps from revolver, 2200fps from rifle). Hornady 300gr xtp (1700fps from revolver, 2000fps from rifle) these are very hot loads btw
Wow, that round hits a LOT harder than I thought it would. You should have Chrono'd both the pistol and the rifle, it would be interesting to know what the extra barrel length is adding onto the velocity.

I *ADORE* these rifles and shotguns! I've been collecting them for years and have a safe full of them from .17HM2 to the .45-70 Buffalo Special. They are so much fun to collect and shoot! I'm still waiting for a .500S&W to come up on GunBroker and methinks I'm going to continue waiting for quite some time. 😏
I don't know why single-shots are so much more fun than auto-loaders, but I absolutely love the two I have.

Yeah those Barnes full Copper expanders do hella damage to soft targets. The last deer are shot with one of those out of my 45-70 was missing a chunk of shoulder about the size of softball on the opposite side.
I believe big horn armory makes 500 mag leve actions, among other big bores. Would be worth looking into. I think hickock45 has one chambered in 500 mag.
I'd so love to have one of those Bighorn Armory leverguns, but I've heard mixed reviews on the fit/finish as well as their function (feed issues, lever popping open, etc). For $4k (as I'd option it), I'd expect it to be perfect.

oo man, the way this gun shoots in slo-mo is unbelievably satisfying... Its almost like you can feel the release of the trigger/hammer, the firing of the bullet, and then the awesome low-tone hit of (said bullet) into the steel plates; (kinda' like a bell tower bell).
I love how the .500 magnum obliterates targets.

I own the 8 3/8th S & W 500 & I am also curious on the difference in the velocity difference between the rifle and the Pistol. Loved the entertainment though...that 500 is a cannon round.
It would be interesting to see the .500 rifle compared to a .500 revolver through a chronograph. And various targets 😉
I get about an extra 300 fps in my TC Katahdin rifle over my S&W PC revolver.

Fun gun, I was hoping to see those 700 grain bullets hit the cinder blocks. I think it would break all three.
That gun needs a 1-9 power scope so you could dial it in a bit.

Scott.... I saw a short video on the 4 gauge magnum double rifle. It makes a.700 nitro express look like a .22 long rifle. The gun sells for one million dollars and is considered the ultimate in double rifle and ballistics. Look it up. Now I realize that you can't just buy one to make a video about it.
