I really enjoyed this in depth conversation about this amazing band and their new album. Songs Of A Lost World is a true piece of art. Thanks guys. New subscriber here!
Good job, men. Oddly enough, l finally got around to playing this album very recently. In fact, l think it was last week. I enjoyed it - as l do most Cure albums - but l definitely have to hear it more times to fully grasp it. This is not easy, breezy, catchy pop music. It’s A FOREST 😉 filled with dense foliage and teeming with wildlife, both large and small. It’s not something you can absorb in one listen. It takes multiple plays to absorb Smith’s lyrics, melodies, meanderings and meanings. I’ve been a fan since The Head on the Door album. A female coworker at my first record store job gig played the vinyl for me, and l fell in love with the album; l was already in love with the girl. (“In Between Days” is still a favourite Cure song of mine.) I’ve seen The Cure twice in concert. Once, on the Wish tour; and when they were inducted into the R&RHOF. Both times, of course, they were awesome. I’m looking forward to future airings of this record. And forthcoming episodes on Rock Daydream Nation. Cheers from The Big Apple! ~ Davey Cretin, from Cretin Classics.
Great show guys! I like this album quite a bit, my only quibble is that it’s a little one paced. I know Robert Smith has a big stash of songs to choose from. Hopefully there’s more to come!
Smith and co. have been doing long intros since the Faith era. I don't know why this is news to so many. Yes they're pushing it on this one, but still... Smith also claims there's a lighter album in the can forthcoming to please those who like poppier Cure as well as a solo experimental album, but he's been talking about that one for years.
