    Kayla, thanks for another great video. Your smile with tears was very poignant as it communicated deep feelings. Many would not put up on screen such a moment. You did and I thank for sharing we are all the better for it. Y'all are doing a lot of hard and some is it inside yourself. You are focusing on the most important things family, kids and their activity, haying, and taking of the live stock. Don't worry about the secondary tasks like house keeping. You are succeeding, as a wife, and mother, and first generation female farmer. With respect and brotherly love. Be safe and God Bless.

    I'm new to your channel and I'm enjoying so far. Did I hear you say that you aerated and fertilized your hay fields? I had a lawn maintenance business in Grimsby Ontario for several years. Aerating and fertilizer makes a huge difference in residential lawns. Keep up the good work.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  11 днів тому

      Yes!!! We always fertilize each spring, this was the first year we applied lime + was able to get all the Hay ground Aerated. We’ve done it in the past but the weather never allowed us to do as much as we wanted. 2024 has been a very productive year for us!!!

      @ChroniclesofKayla When do you do new seeding, spring or fall? I always did grass seeding in September. It worked best for me. Where are you located?

    Your like all the rest of us and running behind, that hay is getting way mature so the price has to be cheaper on the square bales cuz the protein goes down every day... It is already July 🤦 all this hay should of been put up way before July and even June 👍😎🤠

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  14 днів тому

      I couldn’t even get into the fields til June with the wet spring and cooler temped weather we had this year. Majority of what we finish baling will be round bales until Second cut comes around. Every field and farm is a little different

    I don`t know how You and Jason handle The Workload you both do !! I can remember living and working on our 120 acre farm , taking care of Our Milk Cows , feeding chickens and gathering their eggs , feeding the pigs we had , and working the fields we planted and putting up hay for the animals !! It was A Never Ending job and at times overwhelming !!! I stayed with it until I got married and took a job in The City !!! When us 3 oldest kids moved away from The Farm , Dad couldn`t take care of it anymore so they sold it and moved into The City like we had !!!! I look back and remember The Good Times we had , and The Rewards we Reaped from Our Labor !!!! My Older brother and I used to work for several farmers when they put up hay during our Summer Vacation from School and got paid for our work !!! The 3 oldest kids in our family were in 4H and used to show our Beef Cattle at The County Fair , and it was someting we Looked Forward to every year !!!! Those were The Days !!!!!!!

      It definitely gets a little crazy but that’s why we rely on our “village” of friends and family … we ran really hard til the last week here. And I’m not sure I’ve worked since July hit 😂

    Do you replace the blades or sharpen the ones you are using?

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  14 днів тому

      A little of both! That day he just flipped them. Others if he’s able to just sharpen and go he does that. And when it gets too bad- we just break out the new ones! But it’s super easy and I’m thankful that if he wasn’t here & I needed a new set it’s a lot easier then me trying to change them with the bolts and stuff

    I agree, you don't need but 35 HP tractor to rake with and no cab and definitely no four wheel drive! I don't know why everyone thinks they need a four wheel drive tractor to put up hay with, it's non sense 💯👍😎🤠

    • @BigTader
      @BigTader 14 днів тому +1

      Your correct about the hp and 4wd but you have to remember that raking hay is not the only job these tractors do and as far as the 4wd is adds to resale value.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  14 днів тому

      The “rake” tractor also helps brush hog - run the TMR mixer during the winter months - it’s planted. When we buy a tractor it has to have numerous roles. Not just the 1 you see it doing during the summer.

      Well … honestly. lol - I’ve never ran It. So I’m not sure. I’ve only ran a Moco 946 and my balers have been MF 1840s and now the 1842S - - were very pleased with the 1393 mower.

    Are you selling your straw square bales? Since this stupid inflation straw is worth $8 on up! In reality it's worth only $4 or less 🤔

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  14 днів тому +1

      Yes we sell our small square bales of hay. Our price is $5.00 unless you’re taking a semi load. We don’t price gauge - - this is our livelihood. So we need repeat clients. Some of which have been with us 10+ years

    Why do use such big / high hp tractors to rake
    Why don’t you use a small tractor for raking lot less fuel less expensive and keep hrs off your expensive large tractors

    • @scottneill8646
      @scottneill8646 15 днів тому

      I'm wondering the same thing! You only need a 35 HP tractor to rake with and why do you need a cab tractor! And why does everyone think they need a four wheel drive tractor to put up hay with! You can put up hay with a two wheel drive tractor and save a lot of fuel and not tear up the ground when you turn, plus you can turn a whole lot shorter with a two wheel drive tractor 💯👍😎🤠

    • @johnkemp4370
      @johnkemp4370 15 днів тому

      The hours they put in should all be in a/c cabs. These modern tractors have economy 540 PTO where the engine only runs at 1400 or so rpm. Their 145 Massey pulling rakes will burn fuel like a 60-70 hp. When you are making payments on a bigger tractor much better off to put 5-600 hrs a year on one than any other way. Also the larger tractor tires ride much smoother in rough fields. The little front tires on older 2wd tractors will beat the crap out of you at over 5mph.

    • @scottneill8646
      @scottneill8646 15 днів тому

      @@johnkemp4370 everybody's different, my two wheel drive tractors ride smooth as silk and I don't have small front tires and I'm in them for long hours day after day and still do the same jobs and turn shorter without tearing the grass up... For a lot less expense... 💯👍😎🤠
