    Retired for 10 years, and I’ll say this; Social Security won’t cover everything. Start investing now. Savings alone aren’t enough. If you have a pension, consider taking the lump sum and investing wisely. Keep in mind, only about one-third of future retirees will have a pension, and many have been taken over by the PBGC. Plan wisely.

    • @Kalimhebert9691
      @Kalimhebert9691 16 годин тому

      Totally agree. If you already have a significant 401(k) balance, rolling your pension into an investment account gives you even greater control and growth potential. While a pension and Social Security provide stability, taking the lump sum allows you to build a larger portfolio that can outpace inflation and offer higher long-term returns. Yes, market fluctuations matter, but with smart asset allocation and risk management, you can navigate volatility while maintaining financial flexibility. After 30+ years of market experience, I’d rather take control of my money than be locked into fixed payments that may not keep up with inflation.

      On point. I partnered with a financial planner a few yrs back to refine my retirement strategy. We analyzed my savings, projected income, and long-term needs, then developed a plan with specific goals. Key elements included an asset allocation strategy aligned with my risk tolerance and a diversified mix of investments. We also focused on tax-efficient strategies to minimize liabilities in retirement.

      Since the inception of my business, I've maintained contact with a financial advisor. In the current cultural landscape, the difficulty lies in discerning the opportune moments to buy or sell when dealing with trending stocks. This process, while seemingly straightforward, is effectively managed by my advisor, who handles entry and exit orders for my portfolio. Over the span of just a little over a year, my portfolio has seen substantial growth, exceeding $750k.

    I retired at 60 with $750K in my 401K and IRA's. My wife and I did just fine in expensive Bergen County, NJ by living within our means. Home was paid off. No car loans. By withdrawing bare minimum, our health insurance costs were almost non-existant due to Affordable Care Act subsidy. SS kicked in at 62. Medicare at 65. Six years later, my IRA balances have grown to $850K and now my wife is turning 60 and her IRA's are now available. Anything is possible if you live within your means. Merry Christmas!!

    My original retirement plan was to retire at 62, work part-time, and save money. However, high prices for everything have severely affected my plan. I'm concerned if people who went through the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am having now. The stock market is worrying me as my income has decreased, and I fear I won't have enough savings for retirement since I can't contribute as much as before.

    The increasing tax rate is the reason I rolled over my 401k to a ROTH. I wouldn't want to be paying taxes on current income on withdrawals made from my retirement account. I have been maxing out my 401k, 457b and Roth IRA for the past decade. Two incomes doing the same. Grinding down hard in my 20s-30s to let it ride into my 40s and beyond.

    Investing in a Roth IRA is a smart choice because contributions grow tax-free over time, and withdrawals in retirement are tax-free. This allows you to keep more of your hard-earned money. Starting early maximizes the benefits of compounding, where your investment grows exponentially by earning interest on both the initial amount and the interest it accrues.

    It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

    With Roth IRA, the money you are contributing has already been taxed. At any time for any reason, you can withdraw your contributions tax-free and penalty-free. Additionally, any earnings on investments can also be withdrawn tax-free and penalty-free, Not sure how much to contribute, I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $338k stock portfolio.

    Planning ahead can really make a big difference, especially when it comes to minimizing taxes. I’ve been exploring the crypto and stock markets for about six months now, and it’s been a game changer for me. I decided to reinvest my RMD strategically, and that decision has really paid off-I’m now pulling in around $25k a week with very little trading on my end. Contributing to both a Traditional 401k and Roth 401k is more about tax optimization. Remeber the current tax deduction you get comes from your top marginal bracket down, when you withdraw you pay from the lowest bracket up. So a combo allow you to deduct the top bracke into a tradtional 401k today then put lower taxed money into Roth, then when you retirr, you can withdraw just enough from tradtional account to pay the lower tax brackets (0%-15%) and cover the rest using tax free Roth money. This way you avoid paying your higest taxe bracket today and when you retire.

    Thank you for the insights. I love watching your channel.
    My question is about my concentrated stock holdings in RSUs, which have grown significantly over the past nine years and now constitute the majority of my retirement fund. I do have a 401(k), but the RSUs amount to more than five times its value. I am already at the higher tax bracket and am very careful on transferring these to index funds.
    I want to diversify the concentrated stock into different index funds, but I’m not entirely confident I can handle this on my own. A Fidelity advisor recommended an SMA (Separately Managed Account) for better tax efficiency compared to index or ETF funds.
    I’ve been researching online and consulting multiple resources to ensure I make the right decision. From what I’ve seen, 90% of general advice points toward low-cost index funds, but I need a tax-efficient way to diversify my portfolio. Do you have any recommendations that could help me make a well-informed choice? Thank you.

    here’s a question that may be a little dumb: what’s the difference contributing to a Roth IRA instead of just the fund itself. to explain, if my Roth IRA is contributed to the S&P 500, why not just the best of the S&P 500 itself? Why is it beneficial to be in a retirement account?

      Because withdrawals are tax-free, no capital gains tax.

    Thanks for a great video. If we do a rollover from traditional 401k to a roth IRA, is it considered a contribution? Can i withdraw that contribution money that i rolled over penalty free even before meeting 5 year rule?
