Watching this and your other videos makes me feel like Ive travelled back in time
Fantastic views, not just of the trolleys but also of the city and the people.
Cool!! This was just before I was born. Thank You!!
I Believe the Company was called “Delaware Coach Company” Back Then & My Grandfather was a Driver of the “ Trackless Trolley” back then.
I remember the trackless trolleys when I was about 3 or 4 years old.
My Dad drove one 1944-45 also one of the gas ones shown here. Was fun to see a Studebaker in a couple of shots ... the "coming or going" vehicle ! Wow....downtown was really busy ! He later transferred to the line crew and that could have been him on one shot of the truck with the large lift and two guys of the crew helping the trolley around the corner, connecting the bus to the overhead lines.
I own Wilmington trackless trolley # 653, one of three coaches built by Mack in 1939. It's in need of major restoration. Coach # 654 is at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine. It too is in need of major restoration. Sadly, this film doesn't show any of the Mack coaches in operation. All of the coaches in this film were built by J, G. Brill.
If people want clean transit for their cities today, why not bring these back instead of wasting time and money on balky, range-limited battery buses?
