    I look forward to the day I can gift my stash to someone like a friend did for me! It’s been a wild ride but cloth has changed our lives for the better. I’m saving so much money, using less chemicals on my kids, I’ve switched to reusable menstrual products, I’ve started making our own lotions/salves/deodorants, we chose to eat healthier and waste less because of cloth too!

    This is a fun thought experiment! I should add up my ideal stash and see what it comes out to. I assumed I spent more on my cloth diaper stash than disposables would have cost, but maybe not... I tend to sell an outgrown size for half what I paid, to fund the next size up. Plus, I change disposables super often, so I would spend more than typical if I personally used only disposables. So many variables! 💜 Heidi

    We use flats, sized 1,2,&3 thirsties covers, and love it. The more they’re used, the more we save. Also with sized, the diapers aren’t in constant rotation.

    Very informative thanks for sharing. I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and the last time I had a baby was in 2010 and I had NO IDEA what cloth diapers were. I’m definitely using them this time. I like the pocket diapers and the flats I’m convinced that’s what I’ll be using. 💜

    If you don't have a heavy wetter, and you want to use pockets stuffed with flats, you could save even more money by only getting half a dozen cloth eez muslin flats for nighttime and the rest oso cozy bird's eye flats. I love both the bird's eye and muslin. Muslin is more absorbent but bulky, so it's great for nighttime. Birds eye is more absorbent than inserts but less bulky than muslin so it's great for daytime. I personally loved prefolds and covers for newborn to around 15 pounds (5 months for us) and then pockets.

    I would also like to add that for me personally for my babies , the cloth eez Muslim flat is not enough on it’s own, I need to add a booster or two.
    So for me personally I would recommend the Fruit of the Womb stretchy flats ( either butter or twist flats) they are both amazing!

    My kids are 10 years apart, I’m still using a few diapers I used on son now on my daughter 🤣 they have seen better days and I would not trust them overnight or out and about but they still do the trick while we’re home all day, I just have to change them a little sooner than I do our new diapers

    • @lainaslife6351

      Yes! My flats have been totally fine on now 3 kiddos, but my fitteds, for example, are pretty ragged. 😆

    We definitely haven't saved money doing cloth. The country we are living in now, disposables seem to be much cheaper in general than in the states and cloth more expensive. Our cheapest disposables, (aldi mamia brand) are excellent and I overestimated that for 2.5 years its less than €500. Their newborns size is just .04cents and the biggest size is 13cent. A decent pocket or aio ranges from €15-30. So 30x30 would be €900. I know I've spent more than that 🙈
    Now if I was going to do disposables full time, and I was rich, the brand I would pick averages to .35c per diaper, (.55cent for the largest size!) so €2500. Pampers brand cost somewhere in the middle. Our trash collection is charged per weight and our water is free so those are both savers when it comes to the cloth option.

    Could the Green Mountain inserts work as a booster? I mainly use flats and prefolds but sometimes an extra boost at nighttime is nice!

    • @lainaslife6351
      @lainaslife6351  2 роки тому

      It just depends on the baby. I use them to boost in Barret's nighttime diapers right now at 10 months old. But they wouldn't have been enough for my oldest after he was about 18 mos or so, he was a pretty heavy wetter at night.

    What size inserts do you recommend for stuffing cloth diapers?

    • @lainaslife6351

      There are a ton of options from a lot of different brands. Some I like are cloth eez inserts from Green Mountain Diapers, medium size bamboo inserts from Best Bottom, Two Busy Bums has a great, affordable hemp tunnel style insert. There are so many options.
