Ive watched every damn big channel on the basics to get started in ACC, every single one assumed you had prior racing knowledge and just straight went for this car, that car, explained tire temps in general and setups in general. All of this assuming you knew shit about racing, when in reality all you knew was car names. This video, this damn video explained to me everything that 20 previous videos from 20 different channels could not and that is the BASICS OF TIRE TEMPS WITH RESPECT TO THE TRACK TEMP AND HOW THE FECK ALL OF THIS WORKS IN TANDUM. My man for this alone you get my SUB and my WATCH TIME. Thank you very very much. And as a game producer working at EA, I really wanted someone to explains basics that appeals to very new players and you are one such person.

This has been very helpful in an unexpected way. I am racing in GT7 but have been feeling curious about the “real sims”. This video made me realise that I am perfectly happy with the limitations of GT7. I love learning to drive fast and to race, but 0.2 PSI up or down leaves me absolutely cold. So when people say “GT7 is not a sim” I wil say, “Exactly, they left out the most tedious parts of car racing.” I am a driver, not a mechanic. So thanks for making me realise that.

It's a very good take and one I often reference. Project Cars 2 arguably died because they tried to simulate everything rather than focus on the racing itself.

@@tidgneyI just feel I should make an update to my above comment: Because of the positive talk about Simgrid Seasons on ACC, I decided to make a proper effort to get into ACC. The ultra short version is: Oh. My. God. this is unbelievably good. Learning to race in GT7 was fun and all, but ACC is just quite a different world, and I love it. I was worried about having to spend time with tedious tasks like tire pressure, but 1. in the beginning all focus will be on consistent driving, and 2. having to spend a bit more time on various technical aspects, is a very tiny price to pay for a racing experience that is THAT good.
My tip for going to ACC from GT7: Spend a full day, take your time, watch some ACC intro vids, have a bit of patience. Do NOT beging the Lamborghini Junior thing that will pop up, because that Lambo is a horrible beginner car. Just go to Single Player and pick something like the BMW M4 and stick with it for while.

Good advice Tidge. Remember if you're coming from GT sport, or GT7, then there will be an adjustment period and you will need TC in ACC. You'll likely need to put in the time in ACC to get quick just like might have done in GT Sport and GT7. Hope to see more people on ACC (PS5) cause its really good following the last update. I just wish we had N24, even though I know Tidge doesn't like it.

Same can be said for other sim-cade drivers. The mindset of TC and ABS being used only by noobs and not “real” drivers won’t fly with ACC as the real cars utilise the aids albeit the pros use it at the lowest level, ie ABS adjusted for heavy braking but not for turn in otherwise it costs time.

One thing I found funny on myself. I could never understand how people could make 2:15-16 on Spa where I could rough a 2:25 and maybe a 2:24 if I was really pushing and was never able to take that out. I tried to use setups and cars from others (coach dave, etc) and was never able to be that much competitive. I still am definitely not competitive tbf. Eventually I found a car (in this case the Audi) which suits me perfectly and I ended up just using the aggressive setup, putting the pressures ok and trying out just that. Funnily enough in that day I made a 2:23, going down to a mid 2:21 and I can certainly find another 1 or 2 seconds off of it in spa. Basically changed my mindset to "do what it suits me and not what suits others".

I did coach Dave setups. I’ve found the “fast” setup to be really good. Though it tends to be a little on the oversteer side, I do drop the rear height a click or 2 and it puts it pretty much exactly where I want it. I don’t like setups that exploit the game, like maxing out negative camber and other various “cheats” if it’s not based on how a real car would react I’m just not interested. Gotta have yer tegridy.

My first tip. Don't use the hood view! Use one of the first 2 cockpit views!
I started using the hood view and it really hurt my ability to hit the Apex's!
Definitely pick one car. I started with the AMG then switched to the McLaren and now use the Audi Evo 2.
Next. Learn your cars power band. For example the Audi Evo 2 has its peak HP and torque between 6200-8100rpm. Once you get over 8100rpm your HP and Torque drop off DRASTICALLY! Some cars it's best to max red line and others like the Audi Evo 2 it's significantly faster to stay in the power band. You can easily lose a few tenth of a second shifting to late.

@@tidgney the problem with starting with the hood view is changing down the line. Using the hood view generally works best with cars that are a little understeering side.
Getting the POV right makes all the difference! I used a 49uw so I have to use 28-29 and then back anywhere from 17-30 to get a view that's realistic.
The biggest problem I have with the hood view is how it looks on certian cars like the Audi's and McLarens!! Works on for the AMG, BMW, Bentley. Cars that are front engine and have long hoods. Using it on the Audi or McLaren and your using a much different POV

for those that have time i suggest to try and figure out what these do like outside of just acc. if you have a chance try and fiddle with setups for like a regular sports car in something like AC or Gran turismo and try and drift it for example. It will help you avoid certain things when later doing setups for like gt3 and 4s in ACC...
It helps if you at first realy exagerate with certain key settings just to figure out what does what. Once you have that down, reset or tone it down to your preference.. do the thing in relatively small increments and preferably one setting at a time and youll be a virtual car mechanic in like a week or so.
one note: regarding oversteer understeer after raising or lowering the rideheight in back... one can compensate that by softening/hardening rear suspension and or just inducing more toe in - its just a play of balancing it out for the way you like to drive. But the only frustrating part about doing your own setups in acc besides the tire pressure simulation is after you used up most of the fuel and the cars weight or balance changes a bit - finetuning that out still takes me weeks

  • @Manc268
    @Manc268 Рік тому +4

For ACC just learn 2 things... tyre pressures & ambient air temps - then all cars will be stable!! 10mins per car/track when you know how. Forget tunes for now. you cant really tune it until the tyres are right anyway so learn !!! People keep saying aston & bentley are easy to start but they were not for me. both were a bit twitchy with presets & tyres.. i found the McLaren, Lexus, Lambo & Nismo all easier.. If you are a beginner then forget all the meta bop builds & race what you like.. most players wont be fast enough to notice much until much later on.. i found out of 6 tracks, for me the lexus was fastest on 4 of them.. i know its a second out from newer cars but im 2-5 secs off aliens so it doesnt matter... slow or older cars will still go faster than most of us can drive them so it makes no difference at 1st. Pick a small track & test many cars, find your best car or 3 & go visit the other tracks. It doesnt hold your hand in anyway but its top tier gaming.

Great video mate! For me (quite fast and experienced driver - 5,5k ELO at LFM) , I tested many many setups for many diffrent cars, I also make my own setups. First at the beggining I used CDA setups as base because they were far from great for me and I heard from many people complaining about it too. Now I discovered popometer, go setups and hymo setups and easily I can say, that GO Setups are really great for beginners and adnvaced drivers. When I used CDA as a base, there was a lot of work to put in it to be a good setup. And now, hymos and go setups are really great in stock, without changing anything what I can't say about CDA. Hymo are pointy as hell so probably bettter to start with GO setups, they have "e-sport setup" and safe setup in one so it's gonna be good for most people.

Nice enought tips. But a few changes i would make after close to 700hrs of ACC
I believe Tyre pressures should be around 27.5 not 27.7. As at 27.8 the tire will start to baloon. I use 27.5
I would also advise to check both setups. And ONLY change tyrepresures, fuel, TC and ABS if needed and brakepads 1. New drivers really need to learn how to drive fast before trying to mess with setups. The included setups are good enough, that is one of the massive pros of ACC. Actuall good default setups.
And some stable setups are a lot better for new drivers as they generally are a bit higher and therefore it is easier to grow confidence and not get thrown off a cerb because the car bottomed out and sometimes the Safe is actually a very good setup. For example the Huracan Evo Agressive at Susuka is really understeery while the Safe one has a lot more front bite and rotation, being a fair bit faster. Just lower TC and ABS a bit.
If you really want to tinker with setups when new though, instead of altering ridehight first. If the rear comes out under braking, it generally is easier to throw the brake balance forward 1-2% and see of that helps. Quite a few cars have quite agressive brake balances on the agressive setup, meaning that the rear can snap if you trailbrake very hard and deep. Or soften the rear antiroll bar 1 click. That will stabilis the car both on entry and exit.
Also i would not reccomend to start with FR cars. I would say try the various cars regardless of their design and take the one that feels good for you.
As for brakepad 1. Yes it brakes a lot harder, but keep in mind that it also demands more carefull brakepedal management when trailbraking or you will just ABS understeer all the way.
And about that. Absolute biggest thing to be quick in ACC is exactly that, learn how to trailbrake. Don't just keep that pedal pressed because you have ABS, don't scrub the tires by putting in too much steering angle or you will blister them. Stay on the racing line or you will get dirty tires affecting times.

The only difference I would say (as a new player and this works for me) is to try every car. Don't change any of the settings, just pick a track (I generally pick a track with a variety of corners) and then I just go one by one driving each car. Another thing,... Don't be in a big rush to be "good" at the game. It is more fun to learn the "nuance" of each car. Another way to look at it is that you paid for all of these cars, you might as well try them all out. It is the same thing with my Combat flight simulator, Il2 Sturnovik. I flew every plane, but in the end, I went back to the BF 109. So, in the end, you'll probably end up driving almost exclusively one car.
It also seems like a bad idea to buy setups. If you have to buy a setup it is because you lack the knowledge to do it yourself. This would indicate you are rushing your learning (or in this case, lack of learning).
"I don't know, I just drive the damn thing." - James Hunt. LOL This suits me
Lastly, this explains why every time I leave the pits the race engineer tells me my tire pressures are low. hmmm . LOL

If you don't have time to sit on your setup for a single track for many evenings with Motec on the second screen to stay competitive don't even bother. Online racing in this game is a viable option only for streamers or teenagers that have a ton of spare time. Unfortunately setups win races in this game. I managed to make a great setup for one track and do laptimes like pro simracers but it took too much time. It's not worth it. Great game and physics but there should be an option for locked setups leagues with balanced BoP otherwise simracing will always be a niche.

In ACC set ups don’t do much unless you know the track and car very well. Most people should learn to be fast with the base aggressive set up and only dial in the tire pressures. Be fast with that before messing with the car set up.
Plus E Sports paid set ups will generally not work for the average sim racer because that set up comes with a driving style and you don’t know what that is. Only the guy who developed the set up knows the driving style.

I love ACC and the physics are a brilliant balance of challenging and satisfying, but it’s definitely poorly optimised as a game; there’s so much it just doesn’t tell you. Just having a sliding scale of “brake pads 1-4” and “brake ducts 1-6” is not helpful 😅
There are also irritating little things, for example on single player races, the AI gain about five seconds on you in pitstops because they have this super jolty transition from pit lane to pit box and up onto their jacks which takes about half a second…FAR quicker than you can pull into/pull out of your pit box.
