And as I understand it, in trucking, switching companies is the best way to increase your pay quickly. Did Billie Jo join you in the new company? I will say again that some of those team and vacation videos were among the best that I enjoyed because of your quirky things y’all did, like skating on a retention pond.
Like you Dave I quit CFI for the second time this past Sept. BEST DECISION I’ve ever made. I’m making almost 40% more per week with my new company and treated so much better. Hope you find something that works for you!

Everyone should buy after a year or two. Chased the money for ten years (half union at least so local and better pay while local, teamsters 456) wish I went OO immediately. Worst timing last year but just work more and get a prE log (99 and older engine for those who don’t know)

Don’t listen to people. Do your best, be as attentive and safe as possible when driving, and push yourself. It will get hard, but push through and it will be a great experience
Take your time when backing. Don't let anybody rush you, get out and look if your aren't sure about your positioning. With good trip planning you won't find yourself parking at on ramps.

Left my company 4 months ago for crete/shaffer. I'm on the shaffer side alot more miles, higher cpm, pre-planned for following week. Very glad I made the move!

I’m almost 3 months in with CFI. They’re a good company haven’t really had any problems with them, just once they got me home a day late but it’s whatever. Wish the pay rate was higher but I’m getting good miles and good checks regardless for being a rookie.

Great attitude man, it's been fun looking at older videos and seeing your progression. My close friend drove for about a decade and he's share so many wacky stories. I know having an RV doesn't compare, but I can sorta relate to getting through tight spaces and how you handle everything with patience and humility is really inspiring. dave has to say even if you haven't been driving very long. find a really good driver, look at the situation very carefully, always consider your options. a good example of how it should be done and a good example for new drivers. hope you make the right choice but of course you know that when you try. definitely enjoyed your videos. it always gives me energy to continue as a driver myself. There's a lot of good Trucking companies but everything has to line up to make it a good company. The dispatcher, fleet manager (if they are separate), the Terminal Leader, the shops, the truck you get assigned too, the shippers/receivers. The random trailer you pick up if you have to swap trailers, etc. I had a great time at Swift but I've heard different stories about other people. I had a lousy time at Prime was told I wasn't Trucker material because I wouldn't roll in the dirt for them and be abused. I had a meh time at another Refer company. And I have a wonderful experience at my current company. I found one where everything for me lined up so I hope nothing changes for a while.

Try Continental Expedited out of Clarksville Tennessee. My brother drives for them. He's OTR, out for 5 weeks and home for a week. Been with them over a decade.
Get into LTL Best decision of my life. Estes linehaul extra board is pretty much OTR except you drive a daycab and put into hotels and they allow media on UA-cam. 5 days out 2 days home unless you want to keep running, you get a start day but youll always do the same 5 days.. .72 cpm starting off, plus pay for hooking and dropping sets. terminal to terminal drop and hook so youre not struggling at new places or waiting on loads. Its super chil. Just need your endorsements

My wife and I left CFI about 6 months ago and came over to drive for Hobby Lobby. Best decision we have made in this industry. 2 days home a week, dedicated routes. Almost double the pay as CFI. Almost a no Brainerd really. CFI is a great starter company but I will never understand why people choose to stay there so many years. The secret for a 1 way rental. Just book a rental to return at that location for the date you'd arrive at the other location, then show up at the omr you're going to and say "here ya go" You'll probably get charged a fee, but thats what I do with Enterprise. I know because I left and returned to Crete 3 times and job hopped a few times so don't feel bad.
I also am about to change companies that I drive for. Been doing a dedicated specialized gig for about 3 years, and I am switching to a local company that will allow me to go owner operator. Hopefully for the first few months when I’m company to get used to the new company and a more normal operation, I will be making more money than I have been, but if not I won’t complain either. Good luck with your new job.

I am going to do you a solid Dave. You inspired me to join CFI and it worked for 2 years. I’m doing team at KLLM expedited at the beginning of the year. .82 per mile split and dedicated freight they say. We will see.
I can get you on at tyson foods if you want it's a really good company and they actually help you out alot but they give you the space to do your job. The trucks also have the halivalve system so we can lift our 5th wheel and lower it like a yard dog. Just let me know if you want to and we can talk about it man
Freight hauling is freight hauling, regardless of the company. I suggest a more specialized freight like tanker, especially hazmat. Its what I do, and I could not be happier!
Im not yet a trucker but thinking of doing hazmat-tanker if/when i become a trucker. Got a question: How does the pay for hazmat-tanker compare to flatbed- or reefer-pay?
@@somethingepic777 exponentially better. It takes more certifications and isn’t as common as the others. I’ve hauled them all, and tanker is where it’s at for sure. 😎

Good luck on your new driving job. I follow a trucker who switched from Werner to CRETE. So far it's turning out well. He gives his 6 month update shortly. Another driver I follow just did around 3.5 years with Maverick LLC as a flat bedder. Makes the jump to Oakley as an owner operator. Will be interesting to see how all this turns out in the future including your new endeavor.

The secret for a 1 way rental. Just book a rental to return at that location for the date you'd arrive at the other location, then show up at the omr you're going to and say "here ya go" You'll probably get charged a fee, but thats what I do with Enterprise. I know because I left and returned to Crete 3 times and job hopped a few times so don't feel bad.
You are definitely doing good by switching to a company that pays better than just trying to stick to CFI. Smart move.

I also am about to change companies that I drive for. Been doing a dedicated specialized gig for about 3 years, and I am switching to a local company that will allow me to go owner operator. Hopefully for the first few months when I’m company to get used to the new company and a more normal operation, I will be making more money than I have been, but if not I won’t complain either. Good luck with your new job.

I am going to do you a solid Dave. You inspired me to join CFI and it worked for 2 years. I’m doing team at KLLM expedited at the beginning of the year. .82 per mile split and dedicated freight they say. We will see.
That's 41 cpm for you you're getting screwed if you have over 5 years experience

I can get you on at tyson foods if you want it's a really good company and they actually help you out alot but they give you the space to do your job. The trucks also have the halivalve system so we can lift our 5th wheel and lower it like a yard dog. Just let me know if you want to and we can talk about it man

Whatever you do, do not get stopped by the Taylor Michigan police, guaranteed ticket and a major attitude. All us locals know this.
Freight hauling is freight hauling, regardless of the company. I suggest a more specialized freight like tanker, especially hazmat. Its what I do, and I could not be happier!
Im not yet a trucker but thinking of doing hazmat-tanker if/when i become a trucker.
Got a question: How does the pay for hazmat-tanker compare to flatbed- or reefer-pay?
@@somethingepic777 exponentially better. It takes more certifications and isn’t as common as the others. I’ve hauled them all, and tanker is where it’s at for sure. 😎
@@truckingwithtramjam Thanks for the 4-1-1 !!! I doubt i'll haul flatbed/reefer/dry-van for more than a year or two (just long enough to get enough trucking-experience required for most hazmat-hauling companies). Going into trucking aiming for hazmat-hauling

Seen a quite a few trucks with goal on their mirrors. I didn't realize there were so many soccer fans in trucking.
As an Ohio resident and CDL driver, that was just a regular trooper, the commerical boys drive white SUV's (Explorer or Tahoe) with red light bars.

Good luck on your new driving job. I follow a trucker who switched from Werner to CRETE. So far it's turning out well. He gives his 6 month update shortly. Another driver I follow just did around 3.5 years with Maverick LLC as a flat bedder. Makes the jump to Oakley as an owner operator. Will be interesting to see how all this turns out in the future including your new endeavor.
