I was there. I was 11 years old and it was my first away match supporting the Dark Blues. On the outskirts of Glasgow our coach was warned the match might be off because of fog. It wasn't. But I remember during the second half we were nervous wrecks - not because Dundee were out-classing Rangers but in case the match might be abandoned. You can imgination the combination of relief and elation we all felt when the final whistle blew. .... and then onto the Championship match at Muirton Park. What a year! What a team! What a club! The Dee Forever!
I was 12 and ran into a crush bar before the game and belted my nose, spent first half in ambulance room, got out in second half to see Rangers get a doing, as a young Rangers fan it wasn't one of my better days lol
As a seven year old Rangers fan I remember my dad commenting on the great travelling support Dundee had brought down. He said it would be a real shame for all these fans to travel and find the game was postponed. I wish it had been.
Gillie was only sent off once in his glorious career. It was against A.C.Milan in the semi-final of the European Cup.The Italians had spent most of the match kicking lumps out of him until he retaliated. Dens Park May 1963.
Another Spurs legend, Jimmy Greaves, is quoted as saying: ''Alan Gilzean was the greatest player I ever played with.'' You cannot get higher praise than that. Buy the paperback: 'In search of Alan Gilzean' Amazon do a discount. And you dont have to be a Dundee or Spurs fan to enjoy it.
1962 Dundee win the league then get to the European Cup semi final. 1983 Dundee Utd win the league then get to the European Cup semi final. That's not too bad at all.
The flicks by Gillie in this game would have been widely applauded by fans of Ronaldo. In all honesty Gers could have been beat by 10 in this game.Oh to have skills of Bobby Cox and Alan Gilzean in todays team.
It maybe simply that Rangers wanted to wear the away kit at home as has occasionally happened over the years or the referee felt both kits clashed and maybe Dundee only brought home kits to Ibrox and it was Rangers who had to make the change? In the Scottish Cup Final 1964 Rangers wore that same kit against Dundee who wore an all white away kit. Rangers won 3-1. I think it's a beautiful kit and would like to see the team wear it once again...royal blue and white stripes with royal blue shorts and red socks.
the gay gordon-what a player won the league and played in european cup semi finals with hibs and dundee also won the league and played in european cup with hearts
That's because they weren't too concerned about Celtic surpassing them in league titles won so no need to give Rangers penalities at this particular time... 😂😂😂
It was like the 1945 game against Moscow dinamo the fog the Russians played 25 players in 2nd half lol a lot of dundee supporters buses 🚌 were turned back by police told game was off ski 🎿 😳 a lot of fans missed the match but heard it on radio 📻 many moons 🌙 a go
watched soo muchof this game,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but sadly its the same old crap of Scottish football,no skill whatsoever, People thinking Baxter was a player cause he once trapped a ball, Refereee was`nt wearing a rangers top, but that makes a nice change! Commentary still the same, does`nt matter wot knob does it, it still sounds BORING
As a rangers fan i salute you Alan gilzean what a player
Im a Hoops fan and Gilzean was always a favourite player of mine
Great clip. 0-0 at half time too. What a team Dundee were.
Gilzean moved to Tottenham for £72,500 in 1964. How much would he be worth today? Magnificent player
Pity we didn't see Andy Penman's goal....Andy was a great player!

6:58 - Rangers supporter who had seen enough and wanted to get home early!
Watching this again really cheers you up, DTID. let's hope our turn will come again.
Ian Ure was centre half that day. The team was Liney,Hamilton,Cox,Seith ,Ure,Wishart,Smith,Penman,Cousin,Gilzean and Robertson.
First rangers game my dad took me too as a wean, called me a jinx for days.
How brilliant would it have been, if Dundee had won the European cup the following season? How times have changed, and not for the better!
The golden era of the Scottish game.
Some player- Alan Gilzean. I was only 9 at that time and I guess Dundee had a great team.
That Dundee no. 9 was pretty good as well
The Dundee player called Cousin.
His son Mike Cousin went on to play rugby for the Edinburgh University Rugby Football Club.
Alan Gilzean with hair, so funny , i remember him from the 70's and he was baldy even then
His hairs started fall off as soon he moved to dirty London.
back then the home team changed kit in event of a clash
Marvellous! Absolutely marvellous!!
Alan Gilzean, Coupar Angus loon and wore the Dark Blue.
Andy the penalty king Penman
I wonder how many other clubs can claim to have beaten both Celtic and Rangers 5-1?
What a team!

Incredible performance!I remember Gillie for his aerial power but that was very much all round skill. Was that Ian Ure at centre half?
When was this?
Changed days eh? The season after this Dundee reached the semi-finals of the European Cup.
Was Charlie Cooke in the Dundee team ?
Amazing stuff!!
@woodyfurball Eh? this was the Dundee side that reached the semi-finals of the European Cup,thrashing some of Europe's finest teams along the way.
But let’s not forget how big Ian Ure was instrumental in the whole game
Mon the DEE
Why are the Rangers wearing the away strip

I'm not actually sure, but he always played inside left for Dundee when I watched him.

Leave the penalties to Handy Andy!
Rangers fouled in the box, so they get...an indirect free kick?! LOL
That's because they weren't too concerned about Celtic surpassing them in league titles won so no need to give Rangers penalities at this particular time... 😂😂😂
Right footed.
Rangers would have been better off getting the referee to abandon the game at half-time due to fog.
At 38 seconds, see Sir Robert with the sliding tackle.
exscuse me im related to alan gilzean coz hes mma dads dads cousin
Dark Blue forever.
woodyfurball. Looks good to me.
Dave..My wife was right there is a blockage in your toilet.... but i've fixed it now.
