Did you see if you were any quicker with 80hp mode on the Varg? It looked like the 450 had more power cause you were landing further down on the bigger jumps
I bet the e-bike will be faster after some time on it. Years on gas bikes and a dialed in personalized 450 vs. days or weeks at most on a stock e-bike and the times are relatively very close. It would be interesting to repeat this after more time on the e-bike. And if not racing, the fun factor is most important!
It's not about the power, they can get way more power out of a 450 but that too is already too much. You wanna be able to ride the bike. Unless you're doing a hill climb

I think the electric bikes are interesting. However, it is a whole lot easier to fill a gas tank in the middle of a 100+ mile day on the trails with my friends.
@kurtheidelbach I'm not knocking the Stark. I'm just making a statement about the lack of range. I wish the Stark had the capability of doing 100 miles in a day without having to stop to recharge for hours or needing a support vehicle to carry spare batteries. If a spare was an option.
My thought though is the amount of time one will need to put in to oil changes, spark plugs, and all the other mechanical maintenance that’s required for the gas engines. I love them, but man, the zero maintenance of the E motors is great.
I was impressed by how easily you switched between the rear handbrake on the electric bike and the footbrake on the four stroke. Having raced BMX, I could be perfectly comfortable with the handbrake, but switching back-and-forth like that on a motocross bike, would probably cause me to miss a step or two. Along the same lines, you must have super strong fingers to only use one finger brake front and back. I kept focusing to see if I could even notice you moving the lever, but the closest I could see was the finger actually just being on the lever. Obscure observation I guess. I got a little nervous on the step up double that turned into a 90° or more left at the top of the hill. I felt like there wasn’t gonna be enough run out, and I kept trying to look down at your hands, frantically squeezing the brake handles as my amateur ass would do. There seem to be a lot of flat, almost off, camber turns, and the stark Varg is supposed to excel at traction in corners and coming out of corners. I wonder if you noticed anything different, particularly in those rutless, flat rolling turns.
With the right setting I think you’d be able to get a lot more out of it than you think! I know range is something they are working to increase in the future.

I bet with taddy doing hard Enduro on it, they are thinking about the idea of battery swaps. Some of the races I do are 6 hour ironman races. Might be faster but sounds horrible, the lack of gear shift and clutch gives it an obvious advantage. Half the fun on bikes is popping clutches the smell and the sound that’s a whole dimension the varg can’t touch. Maybe I’m just old school.

They both look fast to me. The Varg does seem more nimble. Not gonna lie I kinda like the sound of the 450 better even as an electric motorcycle rider. I'm not a good motocross rider for me an electric bike is easier on a MX track because I don't have to mess around with the gears, the bike is always in the right gear.

you are faster on the varg and it's not just the suspension, something i've noticed watching people on the varg, while the varg is physically heavier then a typical 450 for whatever reason it seems to ride lighter and can be thrown around more like a 125, i've noticed that with every one i've watch ride the varg. since yours was all fpv footage one thing i did notice watching you is the varg was easier to change direction and that might be why it feels lighter to ride...just some observations....
I seen a few of these comparison videos, where they’re only testing fastest lab versus fastest lab, and the fast labs are roughly the same. I think the secret sauce with the Varg is in the fatigue, factor or lack of fatigue on the bike, and overtime you’ll turn consistently faster laps
This ain't apples to apples. You let the 450 have all it had, but you limited the varg. In my mind it needs the extra HP to make up for not having a clutch to rip. Let them both rip to to what ever your max is and do it again. This is like me boxing Mike Tyson but all he can do is jab. It doesn't show what's better or faster, but I did like your feedback on it. The breakdown about the scrub ability etc
I feel the Varg is almost unfair if I put it above 55-60HP as the torque it has makes up for a lot. I will say, I do need to re-do this once I have the correct suspension on both as the softer suspension on the Varg makes charging anything more difficult and risky.

Who knows, at a higher HP you might spin the tire enough it will slow you down, or cause you to over rotate turns a little and cost time etc. I'd get limiting the bike against a 250f, but these are the big Dawgs, let them biotches bark!

To be fair, the 450s are at 240lbs, which makes it a 10 lb difference. 10 lbs is still a good difference though. The Varg feels lighter than my 19 YZ450f when you ride it due to the lack of inertia from the internal (lack thereof) components. You feel it on the stand but when out riding it's fantastic
See, it doesn't matter about the power being better, the problem with electric will always be the weight. Bad things will happen to whatever rider tries using that in motocross for real
When you buy the varg its optional to get back brake at the foot like normal or on your bar. Theoretically its better to have it on your bar because you have better control and your foot doesn't need to be on the peg to use the brake, like when you make a right turn with your leg out.

I recently hand the honor of listening to the sound of green energy in the form of a large gas generator running for about 6 hours in the pits apparently generators for these bikes cannot be placed in front of the vehicle using it .They only charge in a location whare everyone can see it

I will spare the math since it takes forever to explain but I do not trust a single thing about ev bikes and il explain why in very simple terms. contrary to popular belief bldc and brushless motors do not make flat power at all. they have very steep power curve up to around the 40 percent rpm mark due to esc artificially controlled torque/current limit. this is becasue high current causes extreme heat and the motor would be damaged by any more current than this set limit, this limit is usually for the first 30ish percent rpm. very shortly after the back emf creates resistance great enough to bring the curretn draw below the set limit is where the peak power occurs, then from there the power slowely curves down which is where the power is very flat power everyone tlakes about is, from that 40 ish percent to 100 percent of the rev range the power drops very little and is very flat, but prior to that it is at a 45 degree incline and thus makes essentially zero power at low rpms. the stark is a single gear drive so at speeds lower than 10ish kmh it should be so gutless that it owuld require pushing it to get it moving anywhere, that is obviously not the case, what stark did is intentionally overdraw from the batteries by a factor of roughly 10x to create enough power down low to pull the front tire up into the air this destroys the batteries, esc, and motor while having an efficiency of less than 5 percent at best. not only that but even at the absolut best operating rpm and conditions the batteries (200 samsung 50s 21700 cells) have a mthematical limit of 50 hp bursts, this bike obviously overdraws from by a decent amount and at low rpms overdraws by unreal amounts to create the power that this bike does. this bike on dynos and mathematically only has around 60 hp peak, maybe a bit more. it only feels (and is) fast because it doesnt need to shift, has a much flatter power output so your average power output is greater than an equal poiwer gas bike, and the biggest factor is a lack of engine noise. you dont realize how easy it is to expect a certain power output from a gas bike but you can tell almost exactly how much power the bike will put down and when because of your throttle input and the engine sound. the ev bike doesnt do that so when it pulls the nose up and it wasnt expected you fell like its was just insane power but in reality a gas bike could have done the same thing but you knew it would due ot sound so you didnt let it rise. stark blatantly lies about 80 hp output and gets away with it since very few people have the knowledge and experience to call them out and the bike genuinely is quick and feels even quicker. overall the bikes math doesnt add up and stark lies a shit ton so i dont trust them at all. As an electrical hobbyist with TONS of experience with ev tech such as manyt different types of brushless motors, batteries, and esc's i just dont trust this bikes since the math doesnt even come close to adding up. ev bikes if made right would honestly not be much slower than a gas bike and could be used right. mid to high speed mx with tons of wair speed for cooling battery packs and the right speeds to avoid excess current draw would allow ev single speed bikes to be awesome. they would be super reliable and not much slower than a gas bike. for trail riding you must have a transmission for the power characteristics I mentioned above. you would probabl not need a clutch, just synchro's could work, a clutch on an ev would be under greater torque and under greater strain compared to gas anyways but a simple 3 or 4 speed transmission for an ev bike would be awesome because then you can design the bike to never overdraw from the batteries by large factors by properly limiting torque to a max at low rpm's and you would have far more power down low than a stark does even when the stork does overdraw. overall I just dont trust the stark, its math doesnt add up but as an enthusiast in gas and Ev and with good experience with both I hope to see e bikes with transmission and good engineering in the future. they would perform well and be reliable, unlike the stark.

The Varg is for sure more nimble and easier to ride. 450 does have the motocross sound and feel to it though, which is irreplaceable.
The varg turned a lot smoother than the yz but you jumped way farther on the yz on some of the jumps
I would say that’s only due to the extremely soft suspension on the Varg. Wasn’t super comfortable jumping heavy with the current set up! Good catch 🙌

I recently hand the honor of listening to the sound of green energy in the form of a large gas generator running for about 6 hours in the pits apparently generators for these bikes cannot be placed in front of the vehicle using it .They only charge in a location whare everyone can see it

@@micahhook3576 OK yea I kind of suspected that. I guess for us half bad riders that really can't handle a 450, it might feel a little heavy but the power character maybe compensate for that.

I will spare the math since it takes forever to explain but I do not trust a single thing about ev bikes and il explain why in very simple terms. contrary to popular belief bldc and brushless motors do not make flat power at all. they have very steep power curve up to around the 40 percent rpm mark due to esc artificially controlled torque/current limit. this is becasue high current causes extreme heat and the motor would be damaged by any more current than this set limit, this limit is usually for the first 30ish percent rpm. very shortly after the back emf creates resistance great enough to bring the curretn draw below the set limit is where the peak power occurs, then from there the power slowely curves down which is where the power is very flat power everyone tlakes about is, from that 40 ish percent to 100 percent of the rev range the power drops very little and is very flat, but prior to that it is at a 45 degree incline and thus makes essentially zero power at low rpms. the stark is a single gear drive so at speeds lower than 10ish kmh it should be so gutless that it owuld require pushing it to get it moving anywhere, that is obviously not the case, what stark did is intentionally overdraw from the batteries by a factor of roughly 10x to create enough power down low to pull the front tire up into the air this destroys the batteries, esc, and motor while having an efficiency of less than 5 percent at best. not only that but even at the absolut best operating rpm and conditions the batteries (200 samsung 50s 21700 cells) have a mthematical limit of 50 hp bursts, this bike obviously overdraws from by a decent amount and at low rpms overdraws by unreal amounts to create the power that this bike does. this bike on dynos and mathematically only has around 60 hp peak, maybe a bit more. it only feels (and is) fast because it doesnt need to shift, has a much flatter power output so your average power output is greater than an equal poiwer gas bike, and the biggest factor is a lack of engine noise. you dont realize how easy it is to expect a certain power output from a gas bike but you can tell almost exactly how much power the bike will put down and when because of your throttle input and the engine sound. the ev bike doesnt do that so when it pulls the nose up and it wasnt expected you fell like its was just insane power but in reality a gas bike could have done the same thing but you knew it would due ot sound so you didnt let it rise. stark blatantly lies about 80 hp output and gets away with it since very few people have the knowledge and experience to call them out and the bike genuinely is quick and feels even quicker. overall the bikes math doesnt add up and stark lies a shit ton so i dont trust them at all. As an electrical hobbyist with TONS of experience with ev tech such as manyt different types of brushless motors, batteries, and esc's i just dont trust this bikes since the math doesnt even come close to adding up. ev bikes if made right would honestly not be much slower than a gas bike and could be used right. mid to high speed mx with tons of wair speed for cooling battery packs and the right speeds to avoid excess current draw would allow ev single speed bikes to be awesome. they would be super reliable and not much slower than a gas bike. for trail riding you must have a transmission for the power characteristics I mentioned above. you would probabl not need a clutch, just synchro's could work, a clutch on an ev would be under greater torque and under greater strain compared to gas anyways but a simple 3 or 4 speed transmission for an ev bike would be awesome because then you can design the bike to never overdraw from the batteries by large factors by properly limiting torque to a max at low rpm's and you would have far more power down low than a stark does even when the stork does overdraw. overall I just dont trust the stark, its math doesnt add up but as an enthusiast in gas and Ev and with good experience with both I hope to see e bikes with transmission and good engineering in the future. they would perform well and be reliable, unlike the stark.

@@spidartanks if that's the case then I could fat turbo my gas bikes and absolutely demolish any of your ev's in any race under any circumstances with 100+hp (streetsweeper got his yzf450 to hit above 100hp and ran it a lot!) but ofc that would mean my bike would be terribly unreliable, inconsistent, and it would never be a practical machine. well thats exactly what the stark is, severely overpowering components to achieve competitive power. dont you find it strange how all other ev bikes are like 15-30hp max? well i don't because those ones are built to power their components at their ratings, not 3x higher than their ratings. if you put the stark vs a turbo or boosted gas bike it would lose every time, if you took a ktm exc freeide e bike (made so for reliability and proper ratings) vs a gas bike it would also be terrible. the logic of "who cares how the power is made" justifies daily driving an f1 car...
