Utterly shocking that UA have not released what everyone has been screaming about for a long time...an updated version of the Ox. In it's current state I cannot recommend it. Stupidly limited connectivity, stupidly limited cabinet choices on the unit itself (and elsewhere). Waaaaay too expensive for what it currently is.

I've got the captorX, cabM+, Boss TAE, a helix and a fractal FM3. All do cab simulation and IR's. I got the OX stomp last week and it literally feels like a cheat code to getting a CORRECT sounding DI cab/speaker sound. Plenty of great sounds from the other devices but the OX feels and sounds the best to me and honestly delivers a sound that is better than what I can get with a real cab/mics.
Update: OK I caved and have an OX box on the way now LOL. not having to have a separate load box will be really handy and the foot switch capabilities of this thing are a big value add that I previously put the Waza TAE at the top of the live performance load box list so we'll see how the OX Box compares for live playing.

I had the two notes captor x and found it difficult to dial in. I feel as if have to be a sound engineer to get a good sound. Got the OX afterwards, and it’s plug and play. Sounds fantastic and it’s the only tool in the shed that will never get sold. It allows me to play big amps at home!

This is something I am curious about. I also own the captor X and was wondering about the price difference.. like.. if captor X could do all the same things, why is this so much more and why does it seem to be revered by so many guitar influencers? Captor x is much less expensive and way smaller/lighter. Genuinely curious on your experience as someone who made the switch (if you don't mind sharing of course). Just for some context, I don't dislike the captor X. I use it with a huge amp I had and since I sold it, I have been using the strymon iridium. It sounds fine but sometimes I really do miss just hearing from a physical amp. Due to typical concerns, headphones out and high quality attenuation is a must. One thing I really cannot tolerate is software and virtual menus with bad UI and stuff.. I picked the strymon iridium cos it works like a normal thing with knobs. Of course on top of all that, the cab emulation through headphones has to be good and the attenuation needs to still allow the amp to retain the personality at very low volumes. Since I might be going back to amps, I am considering trying other premium reactive load box/attenuator with headphones out, as I am curious about the others such as UA ox. Thanks in advance!

I wish UA would offer the following upgrades in a future software update:
    1) Provide the wet signals on the OX’s analog outputs while simultaneously providing dry signal streams on the S/PDIF output. That would enable wet monitoring for the guitar player while tracking, but dry recording.
2). Allow the option to increase the bit-depth to 24-bits and the data rate to at least 48 or 96 kHz. The current 16-bit / 44.1 kHz limit (from 40 years ago 🤨) is surprising and not aligned with modern recording sessions.

I own an OX and play a Two Rock and a Mesa Boogie iic+ through it. I recently purchased a UA Dream. There is no comparison. My real amps played through OX are far superior to the modeling the UA Dream, at least if your ability to play loud is limited by family members or neighbors who will not like you loud amp. I'm frankly confused when I hear people singing the praises of the UA Dream. It's just not that great, it's comparatively barely adequate. However, what is difficult to understand is why UA has abandon OX updates. The OX, IMHO, is still an amazing product. But they just seem to be uninterested in continuing the product. Because the OX is a higher end product, they should update this model, to allow loyal supporters of UA. Another thing is that it would be great if I could use the UA Dream through the OX without putting it through one of my amp effects loops, bypassing the tone stack. This would give me more option all while using OX products. They're dropping the ball. And hey, they need to address the lack of a headphone jack on the UA Dream, and the inability to use third party IRs. They have to do better.

I just have a Vox AC15C1 but instantly found the sound I was looking for after a few minutes playing with the Ox. I really hate scrolling through different IRs and messing with EQ. It's about the recorded sound, and about getting a sound worth recording. It's the same as people who play with a metronome, and don't record themselves, where they can work on their weaknesses that they can pinpoint in a recording. Just playing to a metronome is good if you want to get faster, start slow and speed up, gradually. But recording makes you work on phrasing, much more.
