The more Ox Stomp demos I see, the more I'm convinced that the speaker drive knob should have been something different, like a mic panning control, or a "width" control that moves the mics closer to hard pan left and right, or maybe an effects level/mix control. Speaker drive really seems like more of a "set and forget" sort of thing, IMO.
@@SteveSterlacci I'd be all for that! Just got an OX Stomp a few days ago and I'm honestly not sure I can hear the speaker drive doing anything. Maybe it's more noticeable in the right context, but I don't think it deserves a dedicated knob. Would be awesome to customize it.
Control via the App is the way to go for me, much more useful than a touchscreen on a device.....IMHO, obviously others may prefer touchy screens. 😊 Great video, cheers.
Bought one yesterday, dynamic thing or not the dyna cab in my axe fx just sound better to me and my GF. It is like the uad as a blanket on top. going back to the store.
I got mine last week and it's amazing. I've got the Waza TAE (also very very good and huge flexibility on stage), the two notes captor x and the cabM+ but this OX Stomp just sounds and FEELS so much better. I also think it sounds and reacts better than the DynaCab stuff in my Fractal FM3. Don't sleep on the room mic though. It can make a HUGE impact on the sound and (in my opinion) the realism of being in the room with a cabinet. I just played a show this weekend with the UA lion into the OX stomp and a golden boy drive pedal in front and it sounded REALLY good. They need to put some more work into the app though. I want to see how many dB's of gain or cut I'm applying on all the EQ sliders and I'd like to see a volume output percent for the mics and master output. One other thing I did for the gig was use two identical presets but one had slightly higher output volume on the slider so when I toggled the favorite switch between the two, I would get a simple volume boost for solos. The delay switch turned on/off delay. One suggestion I made on the UA forum was to give us the option to have delay ignore favorite changing so it will stay on when changing between favorites. That would be super useful in my situation where I'm doing a lead part with delay on and I need to kick back over to the lower volume preset when the solo is done, I don't want to lose my delay. My FM3 lets me do this with any effect and it's really helpful.
Thanks Steve, hands on an honest rewiev. My 2 cents: I have it running post a Boss GT-1000, cab sim turned off, with classic rock tones and it does some good here and there, especially rounding off of fizziness. But I am sure 8n a live situation in a mix this small difference isn't audible. For my not worth going for, despite all that positive reviews. Cheers, Frank.
Do you think OX Stomp add any improvement in the "feel" department when combined with the HX Stomp? Really torn between OX Stomp and Tonex to try to improve the HX Stomp feel, that in my opinion is a tiny bit lacking...
NIce review thanks, the UA ox is more fun/interactive to play because it's algorythm program not static ir.BTW if i can tell something, i would have not putted it in the loop (double AN/NA conversion) but as it's full stereo it's more interesting to put it AFTER the stomp , less an/na/latency and you save one more block :-) just pan the mic left/right to have full stereo..my 2 cents
I noticed none at all. Feels great to play and thats even going through helix fx loop so there are a few conversions happening with no perceived latency
Had my fingers crossed you’d review this, hope you’re well btw! Awesome product, nice review man.. wanna try one, maybe Santa can help me out oat Christmas if allah doesn’t have other plans
With the new Cab Engine, the HX Stomp is significantly easier to dial in great sounds. I didn't hear anything particularly special from the UA OX Stomp Pedal. 🤷
At the end of the day, the diminishing returns is getting smaller and smaller... idk if itll take a place in the portable gigging rig, but its nice to have options
@@SteveSterlacci Yes, we'll see. There's a Modeler out there that could meet just about anyone's needs and budget. 👍 I don't know how much you follow AI, but the leaps and bounds it's making in images and video rendering are mind boggling. I'd like to see something similar take place in Audio/Modeling/Profiling, as there are a lot of similarities in file size, processing requirements, and creativity. The "Matt Wolfe" UA-cam Channel is a great place to keep up on the breathtaking pace of AI advancements, and I highly recommend it even if you have only a passing curiosity.
Cool video steve. I’ve been impressed by the oxbox but it’s been way out of my price range. Very glad UA came up with this more affordable version. Quick question, does the reverb have a spring reverb or is it just one type of reverb? Thanks 🙏
@@SteveSterlacci Perfect, thanks. I often forget about Helix as an interface because I usually use it with my RME, but it certainly kicks ass both ways.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on this one and alternatives. It does not have an amp simulation. There’s a different pedal for that. Ruby, Lion, etc.
@stevesterlacci do you think the ox stomp cabs are better than helix overall? I have a full size helix, but am interested in the ox stomp. If I ran it in a loop with the helix, I’d be able to utilize the helix’s xlr outs so I wouldn’t need an additional DI after the OX. dumb idea?
Not sure what UA is getting at with their claim of dynamic speaker modelling. Tests have been performed over in Fractal land and it seems as though there is nothing dynamic about their speaker modelling. The speaker drive feature is nothing new and has been a feature with Fractal products for as long as can be remembered. Hmmmm… seems like marketing nonsense. Good sounding IRs though.
Fractal think they are too good to be sold in the shops yet they can’t even come up with a usable interface hahaha. Kemper and fractal are both fucked soon if they can’t compete with others who make it easy to get a good sound fast.
Posted a link to a thread on the Fractal forum where Cliff explains his testing and findings but it seems to have disappeared. Not sure about the rules on UA-cam for posting links but if you search for “dynamic” in the fractal forums it’ll pop up in your search.
I'm a HUGE UA fan. When I saw this come out, I was sold. This takes our modelers and really puts them at par with a tube amp.
Really does sound great and is super easy to use when the app behaves!

Totally. They should have had cabinet select in my opinion. A complete waste of a knob.
Interesting approach with the UA OX Stomp. Freeing up DSP is always a plus.
Thanks! Its a great little set up
Steve, the preset you were playing from the HX Stomp at first sounded the best, IMO!
Wow, that's a pretty cool unit!

A video out there in UA-cam land not involving the fender tonemaster pro? This is not acceptable behaviour 😉

Sounds good thru my iPhone
Can I use only the delay/reverb/compressor without the speaker sim?? So to free some DSP from my HX stomp when I use my Powercab.
Yea man I hear your point at the end, EQ can work wonders with stock cabs. I’m interested in the latency, did you notice much?

there is a difference but the main diff is the feel when you play through the ox stomp it has that tube feel not like line 6 digital feeling

its a plate reverb the best plate reverb around they set the standard
Any reason to put the Ox in a loop as opposed to just after?
When using hx as my interface, thats the only reason. Otherwise you can stereo out into a d.i box or interface
@@SteveSterlacci Perfect, thanks. I often forget about Helix as an interface because I usually use it with my RME, but it certainly kicks ass both ways.
Hello Steve, have you done examples like this yet when combining the Tonex and the Helix and how you would utilize it?
Hello! Thanks for checking it out. Yes i have an hx stomp with tonex video on the channel
Is there any power amp emulation available in the Ox Stomp?
I’ve been doing a lot of research on this one and alternatives. It does not have an amp simulation. There’s a different pedal for that. Ruby, Lion, etc.
If I keep buying all this stuff to free up DSP on my HX Stomp, I am going to end up replacing it entirely! lol
fair point lol
OK, so ToneX + OX Stomp.... A killer Combo?
Steve how could I run the hx stomp with the nano cortex as far as routing
I'd put the nano in the loop of the stomp
@SteveSterlacci if I was to 4cm the stomp into my amp how then could I integrate the nano cortex
Nano in loop of stomp, stomp in loop of amp. Seems a bit overkill though lol
@SteveSterlacci I don't want to neglect my stomp now that the nano is here.
On another note…what’s that intriguing gadget attached to your HX stomp?
Pedalnetics ! Love it
Is it possible to insert third party IR on it?
I'm honestly not sure. I think the point of having it would be to replace your IRs. But i see where dropping an IR in their software may be cool

Way too subtle to hear on UA-cam on my phone, but interesting to learn about.
it looks like there is no MIDI? That is super unfortunate.
Yeah i guess because they have the 2 assignable FS they thought midi was an unnecessary expense..
Why putting the OX Stomp in the Loop? Just go out from the HX Stomp into the OX, saves one Block more.
So i can use stomp as my interface in this vid. That's exactly what I'd normally do though
Ok makes sense, I was thinking about live use
@christianheber7324 yeah live i def wouldn't use a loop for it

I did not. I dont do much in stereo ever 😅
