It’s about the death of his 19 year old son who passed away in a boating accident. 💔
I'd recommend his live performance of that song live on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN on July 16th, 2019 (it's better, I think, than the official video). Mesmerizing. He said he'd never sing it again, but his fellow country artists encouraged him to reconsider, that people need to hear it.

He wrote it after his son passed in a boating accident to get himself through it and wasn't going to record it until someone told him that a lot of people needed to hear it. It is extremely beautiful.
I believe it was Blake Shelton. Craig Morgan sent the song to Blake, who didn't get around to listening to it for a while. When he did, he was really sorry he hadn't gotten to it sooner, and moved mountains to get the song massive exposure and get Craig to perform it.
So glad you enjoyed this song. I never make it through without crying. I think that's because I can relate so much to the memories in the dream.
Craig Morgan’s song Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost is AMAZING. He lost his son in a river accident and from a wife to a man that lost his sister in an accident it is such a fatherly perspective keeping everyone ok.

You should really listen to Jelly Roll Save Me but the one without Lainey Wilson first. She does a great job on the song but this song was all Jelly and you can tell he poured his heart and soul into it

I respectfully disagree. You do see the pain in the video, but he barely got through the live version at the Grand Ole Opry (he starts by taking a deep breath and looking away from the camera) and the backing musicians add layers of pain and beauty to the song.
