One other thing I forgot to mention in the video: I almost never use square (power swing). I pretty much only use X to swing. There’s no point in power swinging right now in 20 because of the perfect-perfect. If you get the best input, it doesn’t matter what swing you use. Power swing will make it tougher to get perfect-perfect, so there’s no reason to put yourself at that disadvantage. Hope these tips helped, thanks for watching!
THIS! I can't tell you how many times I swore I lined up a perfect power swing but hit an infield popup, then thought if I just used a normal swing it would have been a 450 foot homer. Now I decided to never use power swing.
Thanks for all the tips! One thing I wanted to ask: Do you try to adjust to each pitch as it is thrown? Or do you try and guess the pitch, and sit on a fastball or breaking ball/changeup?

hey koogs, i play in a TV and not on a monitor, and i really struggle with hitting fastballs, because i feel like they are coming in faster than i can physically hit the button. am i screwed anyway because i don’t use a monitor, or is there a way i can get better at hitting fastballs? i also struggled with this in 19
You should get a monitor if you can. It makes a huuuuuge difference, but for me, 7 or so months later, i'm still early a LOT. I think pitches are faster this year, because i've been late a lot in one day of playing so far.
It just takes a lot of practice, I know it can be frustrating but you don't need a monitor to play well. I've always played on a tv and I used to have problems with fastballs a lot but now I can consistently turn on fast balls and play at a high level. You have to be ready for a fastball on every pitch and adjust to the offspeed. Personally I keep my pci on the inner half of the plate before the pitch because if not it is super easy to get jammed
Before watching this video I made a purchase for the MLB 20 the show to finally try out a sports game and i sucked.... so bad. And after this amazing video im at least getting some hits in and actually winning against the comp. Thanks man
So I was kinda shocked. Started a franchise with the Orioles on dynamic hitting. On legend plus, still dropping double digits pretty usually (only play a game then sim a few). I think adjusting the camera was huge as is discipline. If you wait out the pitcher, he'll throw you something to crush. And it's super easy to read the pitches on high strike zone. But the biggest thing, same as in real baseball, is picking it up from the pitchers hand as early as possible and seeing the spin
For Hitting, the best by far is no PCI center or Outer and Starfighter PCI inner on 100% Yellow. This will make your vision at the plate and timing on pitches so good and way easier to see pitches coming.
Who are some of the best players in the world that play on the highest PvP? I'm getting MLB 21 as my first baseball game. I'm tryna take all advice and watch the best players play
Thanks for a great video. What recommendations do you have when there is lower visibility of the ball, during daytime games or when there is a lighter background? Do the different hitting views help in seeing the ball better? Thanks!
Am I evolving or is it easier to get base hits in MLB The Show 20 on All-Star-Difficulty? While a had a batting average of .250 in The Show 18 (playing as the Yankees) and round about the same in The Show 19 (playing as the Phillies) I have an average of .295 in this years version (playing as the Mets). And I hit much more doubles and Home Runs then the years before. I am confused...
Thank you so much for this! I watched the video few weeks ago and now I am able to get decent hits and home runs even on Hall of Fame with good timing and PCI placement. Also, following pitches with the PCI is so important! That should be #1 tip. I used to fix the PCI at one location and that was a terrible mistake.
As far as zone hitting goes, i like to use pure analog because it gives me the feel of really swinging a bat and i know i can use zone hitting and change the setting from buttons to analog. Whats your thoughts on the differents between button and analog while using zone hitting, and and yours thoughts when laggin comes in to play with those hitting styles
It’ll be nearly impossible to be on time on the fastballs with analog, or even keep the pci where you want it because using analog requires more effort and time to use. For online play I’d say buttons and zone is pretty much the way to go. You’ll probably yank down on the left analog while trying to swing with the right.
@@_Tmelt_ agreed i played a few games last night, and although i got some nice hits and a walk off homer, using the buttons would of helped me alot more thanks for the tips bud, zone hitting is what i needed to take my game to the next level
Can you go over the new center pci? Ex: if I hit anywhere in those three diamonds is good contact? Or if my top diamond is big do I just aim for that part?
I have absolutely no idea how some guys I play against in DD NEVER swing at balls and absolutely destroy every single pitch in the zone. Always on time for 100mph fastballs and always on time for 70mph curveballs. I do not understand how tf they do it

Went back and watched this video for hitting tips, really appreciate the content you put out. I even went to KontrolFreak and ordered a pair of sticks with your code, thanks for everything and keep up the great work.
Good tips. Beginner here, played a bit offline in 2019 game. I have modest goals, would like to get good enough not to be a total joke and play a little online. Moving the stick properly in zone is hard for me right now, and identifying what pitches to lay off too. Got to practice a lot.
Big Question just bought this game playing on a PS4 I see no offline season play? can you pick your favorite team and play an entire season? All I saw was March to October and it only allows parts of a game and most are when you are losing by many runs and have to score in the ninth to win or play as a player for a round....it is sort maddening have not played the SHOW since 2017 and on a PS3 could play an entire season with your favorite team....any help with that or is it no longer in this game? and is it all online?
Stare at the center of the strikezone prior to the pitch. legit stare it down and let your eyes focus somewhere on the pitchers thigh/hip/stomach depending on the height of ur batter. Wait for his release and allow your peripheral to pick up where it’s gonna probably end up. I usually keep my eyes lined up with the pitchers body and ur batters hip/stomach area because you’ll be able to recognize low pitches which is often a problem. Then remember you always have more time than you think to react (I used to always be a bit early but been getting way better of late) .. and this will allow you to lay off shit pitches . Trust me you’ll start identifying meatballs and start mashing. Also remember this is baseball . This game is insanely real , you can square up a meatball time it perfect make perfect contact and you might pop it up, just keep being patient . Side note: these tips I have will inevitably leave you in good hitters counts . Smash away
If you finish a team set that goes towards team affinity and get four no sell players...what are you supposed to do with those four players! You can’t sell, quick sell, or exchange them...they are just duplicates forever?
Man I've been having trouble and I think discipline is the biggest thing I took away with this. I've been doing okay and when I play undisciplined, well it's hard to become disciplined again. Takes a lot but I appreciate all I've only been playing the show for about 6 months and do well, but it's not like MLB 06' I played on the 64 when I was a kid 🤣 Thanks all of this stuff helps
I don’t play online but can I get some tips on drawing walks against cpu? I play on HOF but they still just pound me strikes. I find walks very satisfying and would like for my rtts player to lead the league in walks.
I don’t remember if he tell you in this video or not but what really has helped me is setting the practice mode up against a boss pitcher and make the count 3-0 so you know it’s got to be in the zone.
The biggest issue I have is when I ball is low but not all the way down, or it's high but not all the way up. Same thing with side to side. So basically not middle but not on the edges either. I overshoot my PCI, you have a split second to get it there and it takes a lot of finesse to move it only a couple centimeters and I can stop myself from completely hitting up/down/left/right. So I seem to hit a lot of pop ups on low balls, grounders on high balls, and foul tips on side to side. These are typically meatballs that most will clobber and I'm wasting it.
Tommy Malley well the way you check swing is by letting go of the button so be sure you’re fully depressing the button when you want to swing. If you’re not letting go then it could be an issue with your controller.
I'm just new into the game and baseball generally, i love it but this game is giving me a very hard time...... I'm soooo bad at hitting, that at almost every game heidi appears and comments my bad swinging at everything the pitcher throws..... U have ANY tipps 4 me....?????
Surprisingly one of the pitching views works best for me when I'm hitting. I can see the break better and knee when to lay off. Facing Chris Sale was the exception. Yikes.
19 was the best ive ever hit, but im learning that’s probably not because of my skill but rather that the hitting engine was flawed, because so far I’ve hit far worse, way less homers, and scored less runs, so ill definitely be putting in some time to get better PCI placement!
Pure analog is that deal bro. Idk what you're talking about when you say it involves too much "slow input"...? It totally eliminates the left stick from the equation and the batter can cover the entire plate. You just do the straight up flick, which corresponds to "normal" swing or the X button on the other hitting modes. Its incredibly simple. All you have ri do is watch the ball and decide if it is a pitch worth swinging at given the situation you're in and then flick the right analog up when its go time...
I don't play online, just road to the show, so I have no idea. maybe like you have to use the PCI when you play online or whatever. but for road to the show pure analog is the best way to go.. whatever settings you use you're still gonna not make good contact or hit bullets into outs due to bad launch angle a decent percentage of the time even when you do everything right. Even perfect perfects are outs half the time. Its never gonna be like real baseball where you literally are in control of your bat angle based on how strong and well-trained you are so the game relies on an algorithm to simulate and churn out results based on player ratings. Using normal swing on pure analog allows you to eliminate everything else from the equation besides watching the ball and swinging, which is probably the closest you're gonna get to real baseball anyway. A real hitter intuitively shifts his lower body as the pitch is arriving, based on whether the pitch is in/out, up/down, and then simply takes as good a swing as he can. The PCI thing always seemed really counterproductive to me. You don't have to think that dang much about setting some little crosshair aim marker when you're actually playing baseball and trying to hit the ball. You just step towards the ball (or maybe 'with' the ball if its inside) and swing. You do the best you can to keep your bat head level and produce a line-drive swing, but you cant really aim your hit to a certain part of the field because each individual pitch either shouldn't be swung at or will yield best results if driven in a certain direction.
I wish someone could make a video on how to time up a pitcher when stealing in rtts in mlb 20. I always think I'm going on first movement but my steal keeps going down.
Thanks, love the show but every year I get timing issues. I do eventually get better like when 20 the show was about to drop I was hitting in 19 really good 😂. Any tips on timing issues late/early crap contact
One other thing I forgot to mention in the video:

hey koogs, i play in a TV and not on a monitor, and i really struggle with hitting fastballs, because i feel like they are coming in faster than i can physically hit the button. am i screwed anyway because i don’t use a monitor, or is there a way i can get better at hitting fastballs? i also struggled with this in 19
You should get a monitor if you can. It makes a huuuuuge difference, but for me, 7 or so months later, i'm still early a LOT. I think pitches are faster this year, because i've been late a lot in one day of playing so far.
See if your tv has a game mode. That’ll help some
It just takes a lot of practice, I know it can be frustrating but you don't need a monitor to play well.
I used to struggle with this too, but if you go into your tv setting, and adjust the refresh rates to game mode you should be fine
Before watching this video I made a purchase for the MLB 20 the show to finally try out a sports game and i sucked.... so bad.
And after this amazing video im at least getting some hits in and actually winning against the comp.
Thanks man
I got good timing and decent pci placement and I’m pretty good at waiting for my pitch but I still keep grounding out or flying out
So I was kinda shocked.
Thanks for the tips! I'm above average in hitting in all games prior to 20 but I'm dog shit in this game and they changed the mechanics aloy
Thanks!
This helped me sooo much. I just got the the MLB in rtts and was 0-26. Now I'm doing great.
Holy crap. Batting 0-26? Lol
Thanks for the tips I am 2 and 12 in ranked because I can’t hit the ball these are helping a lot thank you
I have got 5 win since I watched this vid
Do a pitching tips too
Thank you so much for this! I watched the video few weeks ago and now I am able to get decent hits and home runs even on Hall of Fame with good timing and PCI placement. Also, following pitches with the PCI is so important! That should be #1 tip. I used to fix the PCI at one location and that was a terrible mistake.
My PCI doesn't show how do I fix that I play only franchise but it still won't show even when I've done everything you've done how do I fix this?
This helped more than anything my guy
How do u change between direction hitting and pci
I’ve been playing since mlb 14 and just now found out what PCI stands for. like holy shit lmao
Noob alert
Lmao I’ve never had a fucking PS4 until 2019 Christmas and got the show 19 and now I play 20 because why the fuck not

I used to swing really early but after I switched to zone I was getting goods thanks for showing me
MTD I’m bad at taking pitches to I have like a trigger finger it’s weird
I have absolutely no idea how some guys I play against in DD NEVER swing at balls and absolutely destroy every single pitch in the zone. Always on time for 100mph fastballs and always on time for 70mph curveballs. I do not understand how tf they do it
roids.....lol, no I get it bro. What pisses me off are dudes that have a stacked lineup and are in the spring training division while I’m playing with the start up lineup. I’m not spending any more than I need to play this game
@@teaganbaker5757 Bruh.. My record is 8-8 and I just played a guy with 60 games under his belt and a line-up of nothing but diamonds.... What the hell am I supposed to do against that??
All I saw was March to October and it only allows parts of a game and most are when you are losing by many runs and have to score in the ninth to win or play as a player for a round....it is sort maddening
have not played the SHOW since 2017 and on a PS3 could play an entire season with your favorite team....any help with that or is it no longer in this game? and is it all online?
Ed Will franchise
@@CristianRodriguez-rt8zs Thank You , I figured it out already
This game is going to be a piece of cake for us Xbox one gamers because MLB 2K games was like this
Man I've been having trouble and I think discipline is the biggest thing I took away with this.
Really great video thanks for the help just subscribed👍👍💪
I haven’t played a baseball game since like the 2011 psp version glad I found this video for some help
How did you get that red thing in the thumbnail
I’ve found that my pci placement depends on the hitter. For example Paul Goldschmidt hits better for me when my pci is inside
Is there a way to transfer your stubs into training points to give your player better attributes in rtts 20?
I don’t remember if he tell you in this video or not but what really has helped me is setting the practice mode up against a boss pitcher and make the count 3-0 so you know it’s got to be in the zone.
But half the battle of hitting is not knowing what’s coming. Of course it helps to know if every pitch will be in the zone.
Always pick up a new thing every year on your bitting tips. Thanks. Now time to practice.
How about Kevin's pulls
The tip about changing the camera angle has helped so much!
I need a tip. How do I make it to where the pci movement is slower. Because I find my self always missing because it is so fast
you can’t change that
Better thumbs
The biggest issue I have is when I ball is low but not all the way down, or it's high but not all the way up. Same thing with side to side. So basically not middle but not on the edges either. I overshoot my PCI, you have a split second to get it there and it takes a lot of finesse to move it only a couple centimeters and I can stop myself from completely hitting up/down/left/right. So I seem to hit a lot of pop ups on low balls, grounders on high balls, and foul tips on side to side. These are typically meatballs that most will clobber and I'm wasting it.
Why can't I choose just one circle for me PCI center?? Too busy looking when there's 3
BJ because the games shit
Can someone please help me, my guy keeps check swinging (atleast twice an at bat) how do I stop him from doing this
Tommy Malley well the way you check swing is by letting go of the button so be sure you’re fully depressing the button when you want to swing. If you’re not letting go then it could be an issue with your controller.
What's best to hit with. Power normal or contact??
Can someone tell me what his in play ball camera is? Mine just is from the plate
Yikes.
Dude I watched this and am crushing the ball now, thank u
Thanks for the great tips. Playing this series for the first time!
How do you do custom practice mode
Starting at the top works best for me and wow I didn’t even think about using KontrolFreeks definitely do make a difference
I'm a great pitcher but my hitting needs work , great vid
I've changed my approach thanks to your tips and to be honest I've become way way better.
I always swing late on nate Pearson from the extreme program
Thanks, man! That's great help for me!
19 was the best ive ever hit, but im learning that’s probably not because of my skill but rather that the hitting engine was flawed, because so far I’ve hit far worse, way less homers, and scored less runs, so ill definitely be putting in some time to get better PCI placement!
Do you do contact swing with 2 strikes?
Bro!!!!! Thanks for the tips!! Gonna go get that autographed ball in challenge of the week
Nathan M it’s fucking horrible. I honestly am regretting buying it
Thanks for the tips they help me out a lot . Keep up the great work Koogs46
What is the custom practice mode
I wanted to know what the pci was that u use and i finally found the video
Wish my game ran this smooth. Can’t wait for this on PC.
Can you do custom practice with your diamond dynast team?
Are you gonna do RTTS this year
Did these settings first batter hits finger
