gotta admit I was pretty ignorant of bluegrass/old time music...preferring chicago blues for last 3 or 4 decades. last 5-6 years really started digging really old blues from 20's and 30s, an figuring out finger style playing on guitar. What turned me was buying a banjo a few months ago and discovering ralph stanley, lester flatt, earl scruggs and digging through a lot of their back catalogues..it's really good stuff. It's like real music, hard to describe..you start looking way past the primitive recording quality and just hear..music!! Was all set to grab my banjo and jam along, but F is a hard key on banjo, which is tuned to open G generally. down tune a couple steps i geuss...sweet!!! well done..
Sounds like we have a very similar story, my friend! I always liked the delta and hillcountry style of acoustic folk blues. Only recently, however, did I start appreciating the more melodic players like Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Blake and Henry Thomas. Started learning some of their stuff, mostly on my Baritone Ukulele and my four string CBG. Doing some more exploring in the area over the last few years, I came across great old time banjo and fiddle players like Eck Robinson and the Skillet Lickers. So much cross over in all that early music. Recently bought a "banjolele" and have started learning that clawhammer style. Now I want a full size banjo too!! Look up Philip Hicks here on youtube. He's my old time banjo guru!
Yeah, of course! Sorry for the delayed response -- I don't get on here that much anymore. Hope you are enjoying the OT rabbit hole as much as I have been. I'm still down here, lol!
Sounds good 👍🏆.
Excellent

I’m the same ... love my blues but love playing straight harp fiddle tunes .... truly makes the harp a band in the hand kind of instrument 🎻
Nice work.
Love how you play, geezer!!
Thank you!
Hey man remember me? Man I'm going down the old time rabbit hole now as well. Awesome! How's it going?
