    Set looks great. But it’s riddled with stickers!? Seriously, why now after making all the other nostalgia Icons sets sticker free?! 😢 Please query the designer on why.

    Shocking low number of animals! Reading between the lines even the designer do not seem happy with the decision to cut the budget from the prelim set shown in the survey leak last year. Will be very interesting to see the interview and hear what he have to say :)

    This set is amazing
    And a decent price
    I wish it had more animals, cows especially, the designer mentioned they went to buy cows, so the cows should be included, even though the parents aren't there
    The goat is cool

      I said something similar on another video and got sass for not being grateful for what it already came with. I honestly expected a horse somewhere at the very least. Gold is heavy, and that tax cart is gonna be one hell of a load to lug around (if that is indeed for the tax collector guy).

    It's not often that LEGO makes a building set that can completely close up, so it feels extra special when they make one. That feature was one of my favourites of the set this is based on and the fact that it's not present here feels like a huge step backwards.

    Fine looking set. I partically like the tapestry maker's house. That is, the dark red window pieces, the green door, the roof is wonderful. I like all roofing in this set, anyway. A fairly clean look with visible studs veers away from intentionally shoddy construction, which is popular among some of the MOC builders. It's no good having the Luftwaffe vicariously pay a visit IMO. Perhaps a horse with lots of fresh hay is missing from this market? After all, there's a boy with a carrot, and a cart.

    I mean, he's a designer. As a fellow designer, I'd expect him to know this set inside and out. All of the major and minor decisions have to be justified. "We only have the budget to include a few animals and so many minifigures given we don't want to cut the size of x building or detail of x interior, or whatever else we don't want to sacrifice. What is the justification we can provide from a customer's standpoint? From a play standpoint as we are designing a toy (even if it's for adults)? Well the cheese-makers are off buying a cow, so their daughter is heading the shop while they're away. Maybe the cow they're buying is the cow in the Lion Knights Castle. As for what we can keep, well we can have one medium-large sized animal, and this is the perfect setting for a goat. Our fans have been wanting a goat for over a decade, so this is a very strong and successful decision."
    "We're only allotted a few printed pieces. What are the most important pieces that should be printed? I guess the signs can go, but that tapestry painting and the decorated shield really should be printed as they are key pieces to the set and also rare and complex illustrations our mostly adult customers would love to collect. The signboards are also key, unique pieces and added for some cheeky fun, so let's not ruin that by making them stickers."
    Choices like this are basic design decisions that have to be made when designing anything. Of course, only the design team knows the real justification behind their decisions, but it's not surprising he knows his work inside and out. I know this is a hefty comment, especially if you're reading on mobile, but I just really love design and the creative and decision-making processes behind it, so I thought I'd share some of that.

      I am buying the lions castle, but I am avoiding this set due to the stickers. I rather have less details, more figures and no stickers or more animals and no stickers.

    • @SilverRiMiX
      @SilverRiMiX 5 місяців тому

      @@metroid767 I was very disappointed when I found that out. According to the lead designer, it seems like the financial team that set the budget only allowed for 1 print, and it makes the most sense that it was the shield as it's a minifigure accessory and another prominent display piece. Regardless the same principle applies to these types of decisions. But again, it stings big-time that the tapestry is a sticker. I also dislike that the wanted and for sale posters are stickers, especially with how small they are. At least Lego's stickers are of extremely high quality.

      @@Nozdormu1982 Yeah, stickers are a big turn-off for me, too. This set is definitely a disappointment on many parts. Personally, I enjoy the play aspects it provides with many different roles and characters even if it does lack play features since it's an adult-oriented set. Sucks there's so many stickers, though.

    Deep lore, and yet poor design. Rooms with no doors/stairs. Two halves of the tower building that fold in having mismatched half-rooms fit together, while in the Lion Castle each half room has its true match in the opposite half. Stickers everywhere. This is not an 18+ set, com'on. Shall we also say that a couple of those sand-colour roofs on the cheesmaker/carpenter building are just plain and unfitting?

  • @trashhold
    @trashhold 5 місяців тому

    This set has some interersting features and i like the turret tower... but in conclusion I think instead of some random excuse why they didnt include the cow and some random lore the designer dude should have focused more on better set design..the proportions and detailing of the buildings, the execution of the roof and weird color scheme of the blood red walls turn this set definitely down for me... this is neither a 18+ set nor is 230 dollars worth.. gonna wait until this is on sale... had high expectations... what a disappointment
