Chef John buy a case of plastidip. Spray the sides of your 4 runner for winter. 2 thick coats. Peel them in the spring. Works great. Casey and Shaun uses scratches and scrapes as a sign of badge of honor. A nice 4 runner has so much better resale value and they just cost crazy money. Casey how is the overheating.

How does Jon have his tent mounted to his runner? I also have a FSR tent on mine but it sits pretty high up on the crossbars I’m using and would love to get it a bit more low profile
At the time I wasn't sure what the long term plan was and didn't want to commit to a full rack replacement, so the boys at Epic recommended the Venture Roof Rack Kit from Artec Industries. We ended up just using the cross bars on the stock rack and that let us basically sit the tent flush - the Landon and the Ginger modified the mounting hardware a bit and voila. If you're interested, feel free to drop me a DM and I can probably snag a few pics of it.
Hello to both of you guys 👍 May I ask how the FSR tent performed in the rain ? I'm living in the Pacific Northwest , I just ordered the Evolution tent but feel a little bit concerned. It would be awesome if you got some tips to share.
Being on the "wet coast" I am wondering if you have any great tips and tricks about off-roading and back country camping in the rain? I have found everything you own seems to get wet pretty quick and it is hard to dry out when camping so just wondering if you have come up with some good ideas?
I cannot stress enough to need for good rain gear and boots. Even if its pouring rain, if your dry, its good. Then shelter for camping. We bring easy up tents for extra shelter when we can, but an awning was really nice to add on. I can now cook and keep a jeep door open to access stuff in the jeep while its raining. We don't tent to stay at a spot all day so just jeep try, pack up, and get in the jeep and keep rain gear on. Long down pours can certainly make it a struggle sometimes but I love the rain.
Chef Jon is the best piece of overlanding gear that money can't buy 😂 hope the storm didnt hit you guys too hard over on the island, I'm over here with the mainlanders and people are acting like the world is ending again 🤦🏽♂️
Hmmmm. Well, we watched Shawn's cooking show with his famous mac & cheese with hotdogs, and now watched Chef Jon with his steak cooking. We're thinking we're going to follow Chef Jon!! LOL!!
Chef John 4 runner still in a stick form? Camon Mr. John upgrade your rear bumper for better protection and departure angle. Its sad to see you carrying your spare in the trunk, bro.

There are no grizzlys on Vancouver Island. I have seen a few black bears when driving, but nothing at camp. We camp in grizzly country alot though in the rest of BC. I think that making a lot of noise and keeping all food secured and stowed and don't make a mess while cooking goes a long way for keeping bears away. We usually have music playing as we get into the evening and I keep my key fob with me to hit the panic alarm if we need to make more.
I know you did it the way everyone else does, and that's the way it's done, and you don't want to feel left out, but I'm one of those that would rather hear Mother Natures music, the rain wind, and water than mans music, just too much music in this video, but I know you've got to appease the masses, too much music is what they're used to, too much music is what they'll get.
