The thing I love about the Lake District is that it is quintessentially English to me. The walks are stunning, it gives accessibility to anyone regardless of social class, and the people are quirky and friendly. Also the pubs seem to serve the best beer in the world
I think the Lake District is unique. Nowhere else in the UK do you have the combination of a spectacular landscape with villages, pubs, deciduous woodland, rivers and lakes. You can go to Scotland and the mountains are higher, but it doesn’t have the pretty villages, you can go to the Cotswolds and you have beautiful villages but no mountains or lakes, Wales has a spectacular landscape but can look quite austere. If you want coast, go to Cornwall if you want inland, it’s the Lake District.
South Kent coast is also very scenic.
I completed a circuit on Friday. Walla Crag, Bleaberry Fell, High Seat and High Tove. Beautiful walk and stunning weather. Rubbish for photos with wall to wall sunshine but fantastic hiking. The route back down through Wantandleth and through Lodore woods was stunning. Bet that place is a dream in Autumn.

The Travellers Rest wow haha I have many fond memories .. I used to stay just 100 yards up the road at the cottage on the opposite side of the road to the pub.. Helm Crag , Travellers Rest then stumble back for a well deserved 💤💤
You asked why we love the lakes. We live in Hull. We have to drive 40 miles before we even see a hill. Although the North Yorkshire Moors are beautiful as are the Dale's. The Peak District isn't much further away and again is lovely. But we found the lakes about 7 years ago and love it. The fells clear our heads of the stresses of life that I'm sure everyone has. We visit the lakes 5 or 6 times a year usually staying 3 or 4 days and never want to go back home.
Unfortunately, this year is different I've had a replacement knee operation o missed our usual last 3 trips Christmas, February and April, missing it so much.
Keep up the good work, we love your channel especially when we can't get out there ourselves

I did that route in snowy winter conditions and the middle of summer, loved it both times. Very quiet, interesting stuff lower down.

I did these wainwrights many years ago in a wet October day. Up to my knees with every step going across to the centre path. Good advice on taking a water filter. Always carry one, weighs nothing and essential kit. Glad to see the replanting around that area. Glad they shut the road. A lot safer than before the closure. 3 am my god man and on a bank holiday !
Another fell ticked off it’s great watching you doing all the work whilst lam settling down with a brew👍😊 especially @ 06:00! However I might go and visit Harrop tarn as it looked worth a visit. That little road around the other side of Thirlmere is neglected by many visitors too busy for honey pots but has access to some interesting features.I bet the beer went down well. Keep up the good work
I love the Lake District because it's so accessible (you can drive across it in about an hour) and the landscape is so dramatic and condensed in such a small area.
Just spotted our car at the entrance to Armboth car park 🙂 We were wild camping on Thirlmere & up Raven Crag that morning. Great video. so quiet with both roads being closed!

What I love about The Lakes is how much beauty and just how many sheer jaw-dropping views are crammed into a relatively tiny area. It really is heaven on Earth 🙏
No walk in the lakes is boring, but that walk looked one of the most least interesting. The lakes are magical from the views to the peacefulness of them, just pure bliss, how many of you have stood on a fell and got emotional just looking round, not many places can do that.
It's special.

Wherever you go in the Lake District is gorgeous, for the size of it has to be the most beautiful area on this planet
What do I like about The Lake District, Glenn? Everything and in such a compact area. As for fell- walking, again you've got it all: high walks and low walks, mountain hikes and valley bimbles, circular walk and linear walks, challenging hikes and easy walks, scrambles of all grades. I could go on about the history, heritage, culture and people, the towns and villages and, of course the pubs and cafes but you get the picture. The Lake District, I love it and walking the fells and valleys is my obsession and not a bad one at that. 😊
Thanks for bringing this experience to us! And of course if you're an idiot for watering the landscape, at least we're happy to see evidence that you're experienced as well (though the delayed deployment of the Sawyer helped bring a bit of drama!).
What I appreciate most about the Lake District as you present it here is the contrast and similarity it has with the Oregon Desert Trail (via Seeking Lost), or even the highlands of West Africa that Itchy Boots is currently traversing. Though the very atmosphere is so different in all these places and the secrets of each are hidden in dark woods or under a landscape sun-bleached for an eon, they are all places where our race has both found - and lost - its home.

Spent so many happy times up in the lakes my dad’s cousin had a farm near Stavely loved playing and walking in the fields with the family remember hay making and riding on the bales on the trailer no health and safety then
I absolutely love the lake district for its scenery and walking trails, it's history and culture, I feel so blessed to be living so close to the lakes, just 15 minute drive to go visit and have a hike :)

Every hill and crag or mountain tends to be different and the weather adds to that. Nearly all the folk you meet are friendly like-minded folk and my dogs love it. Carry on sir crag.
Whilst lacking the height and bulk of the Scottish mountains it does have a plethora of pubs with which to end the many walks to make a perfect day.

Although Armboth et al doesn't have the dramatic views of some lakeland walks, I would call it 'bleak beauty'. It reminds me a bit of the North Pennines where the views are less spectacular but just as beautiful because of the wildness and solitude. Thanks for another great vlog.
Just love it there! - camped a few times at the farm next to that pub - much prefer it to the more commercialised parts of the Lakes xx

Absolute joke that road closure! It's not all storm damage they've used it as an excuse ☹️ Great video of a lesser visited hills... I've never seen it even remotely dry!

I actually really enjoyed the expanse of the “rubbish” part of the hike 😊 Still very pretty w it’s openness, although yes…not the most dramatic from a photography POV.
The Lake District reminds me of certain areas in the New Hampshire Whites that are above treeline and designated as Alpine Zones (usually found around 4500 ft and above.) The flora is true tundra plants similar to what flourishes in the Arctic Zone, so differ greatly from what you see in the Lake District, but the feel of the two places is quite similar.
I love the Lake District’s dramatic play of light with the contrast of deep shade and sun tipped fells. And it is so accessible….you don’t have to pack 2 days up to 6200 feet…instead you get beer at the pub every evening! Always a strong feature of any hike.
The Lake District brings out the child in me. I always feel like I'm in middle earth when I'm there. I drop my troubles and struggles off at Penrith and go have fun.
Another wonderful video - thank you. Moving from Cumbria to Scotland (and back again) has definitely made me appreciate the Lake District even more! Your videos kept me going while we were living through the stresses of the move and everything associated with it.

We just the lakes because it provides us with the geographic features Norfolk hasn’t 😊 even if we can’t get up on the tops we just appreciate the beauty it provides.

Was there a couple of years ago, had a swim in Harrop Tarn before heading up to Blea Tarn.

I love the solitude of the fells, as a truck driver, I had days off in the week when the fells were empty. Sadly spondylitis has put paid to my fell walkinking days , however, I relive my walking days through your endeavours. Thank you for all you do.

We're back up to the Lakes on Friday and I am SO EXCITED! it's been a loooooooooong 9 months without the hills, it's gonna be brutal but beautiful! :)
I'm actually going to pass through the lake district next year when I biketour from france to Scotland. I saw some pictures and video filmed in the lake district and I thought there's no way i'm not going there when I go to Scotland x)

Also, when you talked about the scenery looking a lot like southern france, yeah, there are similarities ! Although it's still different of course but I love those places where in such a small area there are so many different off those "vibes" x)
Armboth and high tove are just two reasons I'll never do all 214 Wainwright's 😅 we did a stretch from Watendlath up to Blea(k) tarn in the rain once. Never again😫 great video though thanks😄

I was there last week myself bagging some more wainwrights which included but started at Raven crag,then Armboth Fell ,High Tove but I headed the other way to High Seat ,Bleaberry Fell ,Walla Crag ,then High Rigg .Was a stunning day and didn’t see a soul til Walla Crag .has I got to Armboth Fell you was at High Tove 😂just got 12 more to do of the central fells b4 moving onto the Southern Fells .Great vlogs by the way 👊👊
The majority of this was new country for me because I based myself at Watendlath to pick off these summits, plus High Seat in the same walk, and in almost exactly four hours, which was good because that was all I was allowed in the Watendlath car park. Of course, I didn't get anywhere near Harrop Tarn though I swung far enought south to get above Blea Tarn. Worst bit of the walk by far was High Tove to High Seat, nothing else was remotely as soggy as that.
I love love love watching your walks. I used to do a lot of hiking the hills of where I live, before I had a couple of knee injuries. Your walks brings it all back to me. Please could you list what gimbal you use? Thanks! looking forward to the next walk.

You’ve done your very best to deter everyone from doing this walk, but I expect you’ve still failed miserably! Interesting question about why we individually love the Lakes - personally I live a few hours away in East Yorkshire and when I arrive in the Lakes I just feel a weight lifting off my shoulders and a sense of belonging wash over me. We all have worries and issues to deal with in our lives and the Lakes has always been a place where I can reset and feel at peace.
Keep up the good work Glenn and congratulations on gaining momentum with your channel - all very much deserved.
Ive got 52 left to do and Armboth is one of them, keep putting it off, maybe i need to get up soon.
Nice vid - perfect gentle Sunday evening viewing :) The contrast between the native woodland and the bleak fell is quite telling. Given it is quite a boring, boggy fell I think it would be better to let this one regenerate with native British woodland?
I've said this many times. You will find places grander. Will will find places bigger but you will be hard pressed to find anywhere that is quite so pretty as The Lake District. So many places, so jaw droppingly beautiful.

I once managed to squeeze my bladder empty in the back of the car before I even set off! Now that’s really dumb😂 You managed to make a great video out of those uninspiring fells. Great work fella.
When I did Armboth Fell, I later found out that the 479m marked on OS maps is the Birkett, the Wainwright top is 200m further to the south west marked as 470m
There’s another really nice filter to try some day…the Katadyn Be Free. The reservoir is made from a softer silicon which rolls better, is easier to squeeze and more durable than the Sawyer bags which will split at the seams. (Ask me how I know LOL) Flow rate is really nice. The top filter portion is interchangeable w many bottle/reservoir bags and I’ve found that it clogs less and needs fewer back flushes to clean. That tends be true here in the north western US anyway, with so many water sources being glacial runoff and carrying mineral silts.

Just love Harrop Tarn , have you ever stood ontop of the Binka Stone , you get an amazing view of Thirlmere. I did wonder how extensive the tree damage was on Raven Crag. I never knew about that viewpoint you went to on way to Armboth. So can you park at Armboth now?

I do love the lakes but, I have just completed the NC 500 in Scotland and the scenery is awesome. I know a much over used word but the west coast is really superb. The lakes are much more friendly and easily assessable.
