    Honestly, I have been waiting for this for e-mount. You nailed the target audience perfectly. I would love to see Sigma make this for x-mount. Fuji has nothing that would compete with this, and their lack of super-telephoto primes is a major hole in x-mount.

      This 500mm should focus faster and AFC track more accurately due the newer HLA linear motors. The 150-600 uses stepper motors, the newer 60-600 has the newer HLA motors. 150-600 still excellent though!

    About freakin' time someone makes affordable super-telephoto primes for the E-mount. I won't hold my breathe for Sony to make "PF" versions of primes since they believe everyone must have $8K+ to drop on lenses. We can't even get them to update firmware so we can have "eye AF" in video for the A1.

    I had the SONY 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 G Lens which I got tired of and sold last year, it is too big, too heavy and not easy to handhold for longer periods. I got the Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports Lens now and I can highly recommend it !

    • @Vantrakter
      @Vantrakter 18 днів тому

      How do you carry it for easy access? I've a Blackrapid sports sling strap which attaches to where the foot attaches on the 200-600 the way Ryan Mense recommends (so you remove the foot and attach the Blackrapid strap instead), this way the lens can rest against my side / hip and isn't so heavy to walk (not run) with and is very quick to pull up and shoot.
      I've seen lots of people make a point of how the Sigma 500/5,6 weighs significantly less but I've seen less examples of how to carry it. If I couldn't carry it as conveniently as my 200-600 it would serve no purpose whatsoever for me. If I could I think it would as it would be easier to hold up for longer and it is slightly brigther.

I love cannon ergonomics, and color but I really really hope they open the rf mount at a minimum to sigma and possibly Tamron and release a pro/ semi pro level body in the 30 ish megapixel range to properly replace the EOS R. In my opinion the r8 was really an EOS RP replacement not a replacement for the EOS R.

    Good Review, showing the argumentation pro and con for prime vs. zoom. The new Sigma lens seems to be a great lens. I own the 5.6 400 from Canon and liked it a lot. Compared to the EF 100-400 mark i it was the better lens. I bought a 2nd hand 100-400 mark ii last year and this one is on the same IQ level. But. The flexibility of the 100-400 mm zoom range, the close focus capabilities, the image stabilizer, the shorter built make it a walk-around-lens for my style, which is "100mm is standard focal length". So I would always prefer the zoom but: If you lug around different lenses, e.g. a 35-135 + the 500mm for hiking this might be the better solution.

    Isnt the issue that these nonOEM cameras do not "sync" with the stabilization, etc. electronics/software in the camera body? For instance, OM uses these lenses but "tweaks" them to be fully functional with their camera bodies stabilization and such...and adds $1000 to the price...sux

    Damn looks like a 300 f4 or something like this . Sure a 200-600 is very versatile but when i had a tamron 150-600 i only used it at 5-600mm anyway . This one is faster , much smaller and alot sharper so for me this would be a no brainer if i shot Birds or sport etc

    I was looking at the tr artisans 500mm f6.3, I'm looking for something that does not cost an arm and a leg and is around 500mm, but there really is not a lot in that range.

    • @ElMundoDuro
      @ElMundoDuro 10 місяців тому

      @@nocturnal1970 at $300, vs $3,000 almost anyone can afford to buy it. A lens like that is a good lens to learn with. I started with a cheap telephoto like that a decade ago. Learning to get the best out of the equipment you can afford makes you better when you can afford something better.

    While I commend Sigma for a nice lens the 200-600 all day and twice on Sunday! I highly doubt that the Sigma is sharper as the Sony is a GM in G clothing. It’s so damn sharp and versatile.
